Do official explanations hide the truth? (very short survey)
By Nick Fox£0.15 • £8.31/hr1 min531 placesKia ora,
In this study you will be provided with a brief information sheet and asked to consent, asked to confirm your Prolific ID, and then asked just two closed-ended questions.
I usually partake in these short studies because they add to the percentage of successfully completed studies with little time and effort and occasionally they are a precursor to a longitudinal study.
This one, once approved, may prove to fulfil both those expectations and if selected will entail data collected every month for up to two years, from short studies paying approximately £1.30.
I thought it might be useful for others to know this short study might result in a longitudinal study.

Yupiteru, I have to confess that I am puzzled as to why you post details of many of the surveys you complete. When there is one which has caused problems, then it is very helpful indeed to warn others about it; but if, like the above, there is nothing that others need to know about it, why post it? If we all did this for every survey we complete, the forum board would be very full!

Matching items based on construct definition (UK2)
By osu.edu£3.36 • £10.23/hr19 mins0 placesIn this study, you will be given some construct definitions and asked to rate how well the survey items capture the intended meaning of the construct definitions. Working adults can participate in this study. This study took around 33 mins for me to complete but did require a bit of thought (for me).The good thing was however that it appeared to pay automatically as soon as the completion code was entered.Sorry if me posting this annoys anyone but I thought it would be useful to know that it took me longer than the quoted completion time of 20 mins.

Sorry if it annoys you but life is like that sometimes.Yupiteru, I made no suggestion that it annoyed me in any way, and I am sorry if you somehow drew that conclusion. I was just asking in case there was something I should be picking up from your posts which I was missing.1 -

Also it's nice to see what studies are out there and what others think of them, when for me it might be going through a quiet patch. If people posted when they just had a problem I think it would be quite a depressing read. I like to read posts that are positive as well.
Not many other people post a review of a study so the forum board doesn't fill up too much anyway. I think there is just the right amount of posts on here.
Like I say - just my opinion.1 -

I was just asking in case there was something I should be picking up from your posts which I was missing. No problem, in future I will add a short explanation why I have posted a particular study alert so as to ease any confusion that you or others may have.I have better things to do with my time quite frankly than posting on here, but I thought I was being helpful providing survey alerts and as is the title of the forum.Maybe you could ask a forum mod to change the title, so as to make you less puzzled?

When the thread was originally opened many years ago it was originally for people to post when new studies were available as prolific grow it soon became clear that this was not going to work as the studies were full before people had a chance to post plus with different demographics and other criteria not all studies are available to all
It then became a thread were people could ask for advice on specific prolific problems and vent there opinions and warn others on underpaying studies and studies which the estimated time was way longer than stated.
I find the thread useful when I need help or advice on all things prolific and its good to know about problem studies so that I can avoid them.2 -
Yes, there used to be large numbers of posts attempting to offer links to other people to undertake the studies, which of course never worked since only a subset of members is ever offered any given study. As I said, it is very helpful to be warned about problem studies; but of course not all studies are problematic, and sometimes I was left wondering whether I have missed something to which I should have been alerted. Now I know that this is not the case, so that's fine.

Social media study
By Yuchen Yang£1.54 • £6.01/hr15 mins27 placesWe would like to know more about social media use.
In this study, we’ll ask you a series of short questions, then you will interact with a simulated social media feed. Finally, we’ll ask you some questions on what you think about social media.
I've just had a rejection on this one, claiming I failed an attention seek question. Posting as a warning to anyone who takes it. I've emailed the researcher to query it.
