"Seeing Dots" (a choice task) Older Adults

    By psychologie.uzh.ch

After spending about ten minutes at the beginning of this Study I was prevented from continuing to the next page when this notice came up:

MHP/ft_v41 does not have any assigned credit left and cannot be run.

If you are the experiment designer, you can assign more credits to it on your experiment page.

Otherwise please contact the experiment designer to let him or her know that the experiment requires more assigned credits to run.

I tried refreshing the page several times but there was no change and this notice is still there.  I made three separate 10 minute attempts to continue with the Study but was unsuccessful.

I sent a message to the Researcher but, so far, I have not received a reply.  It looks as it I will have to Return the Study.  Has anyone else had this problem with the Study?  Thanks.

    Jury decision making

You will take part in a mock trial – as a member of the jury. You will watch and listen to portions of the trial and then provide your verdict, as well as answer some other questions about the case.

The video of the trial was hosted on youtube and is just over 10 mins long so the completion time was a little bit optimistic.

Luckily I took extensive notes of the video trial (no where did it say not to) as there were a number of comprehension questions to be answered at the end and there is no way I would have remembered them all otherwise.
I didn't take any notes, and I think I may have got one of the memory questions wrong (a side detail that was completely unimportant to the verdict) - I assume that they were intended to test my recall of the trial, and not attention checks, as that sort of attention check is not allowed. I finished within the estimated time.

Yes I would agree, memory attention checks are not allowed according to Prolific's guidance for researchers but as we all know, researchers do still use them and get away with it.

I am not saying that these questions were attention checks as such, but it was better not to test my awful memory too much on a hot day like today, easier to take notes.

Also I have an add on installed that gives the youtube url of videos hosted on other sites, which is always handy in these circumstances just in case i need to watch the video again but my notes were sufficient this time around.

Well, at least I think they were, I may have answered them wrong for all I know :D
I did this survey too. I just clicked where it said “YouTube” at the top of the video and it opened the actual YouTube video in a separate tab.

I did to avoid being caught out by unfair attention checks as has happened in the past.

Oh and Ben was definitely guilty!

Yes always handy to be able to refer back to the video, unfortunately as most have found out, researchers are allowed to break the rules at times, but participants not so much.

Guilty?  Beyond all reasonable doubt? Not so sure. :)

Understanding Channel Roles and Customer Expectations

    By Household Product and services

    Hello,

In this study you will be asked a number of questions around the following:

    • Experience purchasing products
    • Using different contact methods and channels for BT / EE e.g. Live Chat, In-store, Phone, Website
    • Experience across these channels

Please answer as fully and accurately as possible, and try to be specific in your examples, feelings and reasons.

Seemed to be only for BT/EE customers.

Study contained a number of free text boxes, but was quite brief all on all and only took a few minutes to complete.

Rate virtual-character gesticulation (approx. 30 min)

This might be a long shot, but did anyone take this and get an error on submission?

Submission worked ok for me, but it did suddenly restart from the beginning of the study a few minutes in. Still finished in less than the estimated time, though.

Thanks - just trying to establish whether or not the issue might have been from my side - bracing myself for a bit of a slog getting paid for this one, although I have a screenshot showing the last page of the study. Here's hoping it works out

Update - paid without fuss, they were aware they had some issues on their side but received my submission successfully. I always feel bad (and do check) when researchers don't get the data they're paying for!

Does anyone know if there is more than 1 version of this I completed this earlier but it keeps reappearing in surveys available unsure if it is a different version or the researcher just adding more spaces

I've done it twice but wasn't sure. I did notice the attention checks were in different places though.

Yes I also had a problem, I was at least 20 minutes into it when the experiment began to slow down, become jerky and then crash altogether with a black screen. Refreshing just took me back to the beginning, and I was not about to start all over again! So I reported it both to the researcher and Prolific. Definitely their software issue. Not even acknowledgement yet. Thanks.

m3gs, I received this reply from the Researcher:

"Hello, I am very sorry that you have again encountered this problem. It seems that this is an issue with the host server of the experiment platform and we are trying to resolve this quickly. I do of course understand that this has been frustrating to you. I would nonetheless kindly invite you to bear with us, until we have found a solution. Thank you very much for your understanding and we wish you all the best!"

I'm not sure what will happen if the 'issue' is resolved because, having had to Return the Study, I don't think Prolific allow a second attempt at the same Study.
