latest update from the timed out study a rather long response

    Dear Participant,
Firstly, I really would like to THANK YOU if you have taken the time to complete our survey. We received a lot of good and high-quality data. THANK YOU!!!

However, there has also been a technical issue with the completion time parameter setup, which caused most of you to be timed out. You may know that when a participant is timed-out, Prolific looks for new participants. As a result, we had more than 1300 responses, instead of 400.

Our initial project allowance was for 400 participants, but as I said previously, we really value participants' effort and time in taking the survey, and we recognise that the issue was not on your side. So, we as a team worked hard in the past few days to figure out the problem, and see what we could do to pay back most of you. I manually checked all participants in timed-out and awaiting review status, and we raised our allowance as much as we could.

As a result, 89% of the total submissions will be accepted despite your timed-out status. If you receive a rejection, please do not take it personally. The rejection is not related to the timed-out status per se, but to the criteria, we mentioned in our ad (e.g., multiple attention checks failed, survey completed too quickly, etc.). Further, Prolific recorded some submissions of which we haven't received any data, and so we are unable to verify and accept those submissions.

I will reject or approve and pay participants who result in "awaiting review" status first, and I will move on to those in "timed-out" later. Please, consider that on our side we have to compute the new budget needed to cover the extra cost and make a new payment to Prolific. We will do it as quick as possible, but it may take a few days. Do not panic, if you don't receive your reward straightforward.

I hope you can all appreciate our effort and work and this message clarifies how we have decided to proceed. Thank you again for taking part in the survey.
Has anyone heard anything more from the researcher on this one? It's been over a week so I was hoping to have heard something more by now. It doesn't look good does it.
Yes - I heard from The Researcher today that they have now addressed all the completed (not timed out) submissions.  They will soon start reviewing the timed out ones and will let us know the outcome - successful or will give the reason if unsuccessful.

  • My submission was one of the many 'timed out' after completing the study but submitted with 'No code'.  Hopefully we'll  find out their decision sometime next week.

I have heard nothing recently from the researcher either, status is still 'timed out' here.

    Social Attitudes in Your Area

    By bath.ac.uk

This survey asks you several questions about your attitudes and values, your thoughts on the attitudes and values of others in your local area and country, along with some thoughts about yourself and social issues.

This one appeared around 7 o clock last night, I would not usually be logged on at this time and I was a little reluctant to interrupt my viewing of season 6 of 'The Sopranos'.

Stopwatch was running as usual and this took around 30 mins for me to complete.

I was a little slow as my daughter was home from University and we had opened a bottle of red wine, luckily I had not drunk much, but did not want the alcohol clouding my judgement and missing any attention checks.

Leadership scale validation. It is possible that there are duplication questions in order to test the reliabilities of the items.

Further attempts to short change us, from the artist formally known as YT Wang, Yating Wang, SKK, JK, Jason Brown etc.

Cardiff Qualtrics account as usual and as usual, best avoided in my opinion.

Managed to get a place on two of them and returned and reported as underpaying and supplied the other names used previously.

I fell for lthis one and, like you yupiteru, I reported the Study.  Unfortunately I wasted 35 minutes trying to complete it before the penny dropped and I realized it was our time wasting 'Researcher.'

In the process of trying to complete this study I missed the opportunity to participate in about four other 'Study notifications.'  Not a good start to the Prolific day at all.

    Encounters with urban wildlife

In this study, you will be asked to tell us about your interactions with urban wildlife by describing both a positive and negative encounter you can recall, and how it made you feel.

More interesting than the usual working from home or management studies I seem to be inundated with of late.

Underpaying due to the completion time being optimistic, mainly due to three free text exercises relating to wildlife encounters and took me more like 15 to 20 mins to complete, including thinking about it.

    Reported as underpaying.

Surprisingly busy for a Saturday on Prolific, but I am going for riverside walk soon which I will no doubt regret due to the very hot temperature at the moment here with little breeze (and the horseflies!).

Yeah, I avoided that one because I really don't like essay questions and they always take me longer than the time estimated. Also I don't feel I could have adequately participated in this one anyway. "I saw a fox. It made me feel like I'd seen a fox." Probably not the level of emotional engagement they're looking for.
