  • I've just now - 7pm, had the same study Deleted_User (higher education logo testing) and the exact same thing happened to me, about needing permission.  I also returned it before I was timed out and have sent an email to the researcher but I shouldn't think we'll hear anything.
I think I must be getting studies about an hour after you as I also had the airport security one today but I got it at 3:30pm and there were loads of places left.
I received a message from the Researcher today, willowcat27:  "Hi, I apologise for the inconvenience and for wasting your time. There was an error in the code as you pointed out."  It was good that the Researcher responded and I hope you have received a similar message.

This task involves reading questions about a variety of topics, and then writing, editing, or judging different written opinions about each topic. The task will take approximately 45 minutes, for which you will be paid £12.00.

    £12.00 • £16.00/hr

Typical, I am cooking food at the moment so unable to attempt this study.

It has picked up this afternoon mind you, there was a mad rush and I managed to complete quite a few in a row.

I did this one. After 35 minutes it gave an error and wouldn't load on refresh. I messaged the researcher, who gave me a code to submit it for full payment, so I'm very happy with that.

It was a bit odd because one of the topics was whether there should be a legal right to death, which was obviously about assisted dying for people with incurable diseases, but one participant misinterpreted it and wrote a slightly incoherent and repetitive rant about how the death penalty should be brought back.
  • Sounds strange, olliebean.  Anyway I'm pleased the Researcher is paying for the full study - that is good to hear.

God help me, I gave this a go. The researcher's estimate was 1 minute. It took that long just to read the intro page. Then it just told me it was full, try again later. Waste of time.

I have been using Prolific for quite a while. Lots of different studies ranging from 10p ones asking what I think of the Government to webcam studies over many hours talking about saving the planet.

I have certainly noticed a change in recent months where timings and the amount you are paid can be very poor. For example I saw one study pop up and said it takes 4 minutes for 25p. I click on it to take part and that 4 minutes becomes '10 to 15 minutes'. Doing the actual study actually takes 35 minutes. They used to be far more accurate.

I tend to avoid certain studies. Those which are top heavy in 'you will be rejected if...'. One study a couple of weeks ago gave no mention of the actual study in the text, just lots of blurb that you will be rejected if you don't do this or do that. I got the feeling they were setting up your rejection ahead of time to avoid paying out. Other studies I avoid are those that require app downloads to your phone. One last year wanted you to log in at various specific points during the day over many weeks for a few quid. Few could commit to doing that during their working/living day.

I have done some studies away from Prolific. One which I was contacted by the researcher following a previous study involved many later meetings on webcam. I have had others like that pay via the bonus method or by Amazon vouchers. They paid far more than any amount you see on Prolific as a general study.

The easiest study I had was around one minute and to do with gambling. I got paid £5. The worst was over an hour for 35p. As I keep records on every study it is quite entertaining to remind myself of them.

I wonder what people do with their 'rewards'. I haven't actually spent anything from any study. Mine goes by paypal to a bank account I set up at the time for that purpose. Not enough in there to buy a new car or anything but certainly for a good holiday in the tropics.  As for why I have not spent any of it...I don't know.

My tip with Prolific is to cash out as soon as you hit £5. I do know people who had their accounts closed. I see no point just leaving approved monies there like a savings bank.  Far better to be in your own savings bank. Like it or not, Prolific can and do close accounts if they think you are cheating or up to no good....even if you know you are not.

I know there is a long waiting list to join and it is unsurprising. Many other study companies pay poorly all the time and or have high cash out thresholds and are too erratic with their studies.  Prolific are at least visible online even as individuals that work for them.

Another tip with Prolific is be honest at all times. If you tell the truth, you don't have to have a good memory, but you will still likely have your Prolific account going forward.  It also helps in future studies particular those that are over several parts over many weeks. There is no point doing a study talking about issues you have with an imaginary brother in part 1 if you have forgotten their name by part 3. Be honest!

Saw this last night just before going to bed and I got an e-mail from Jim from Prolific this morning directing me to it.

However the study page would not load for me so had to return it.  Looks like I didn't miss much.

Unusual for me to see anything at 7.00am on a Sunday morning, but this appeared this morning when consuming my first cup of tea.

Did not manage to get a place unfortunately.

    You make some good points.

Personally speaking the rewards I get I transfer from Paypal to my stocks and shares ISA. It won't make me a fortune but in the same vein as making overpayments on a mortgage I use this principle to top up my savings towards hopefully a house deposit.

This study has been lingering longer than a fart after a vindaloo.

    Four hours and counting.

It is a bank holiday and maybe most of the 'Full-time Tourism/Hospitality employees' are busy working or maybe they are a little suspicious of the time claimed for completion?
