Did anyone manage to work out what you were being asked to do in this one? I found the instructions absolutely incomprehensible, and returned it as "Instructions unclear."
  • Just wanted to say hello and thank you as this is my first post.  I started doing Prolific studies last September and found this forum soon after.  It's been so helpful reading what other people have said about studies and knowing that others have had the same issues or problem with a particular study that I have had.  Thanks everyone.

    Hi willowcat, and welcome! :)

Anyone just try to do the Processing Words survey? I did the word categorisation and the authors section, then it took me back to the 10 minute word bit again! I wasn't going to do it all over again to check if it was meant to go back to that or not, so I returned it and messaged the researcher. Shame, as it was a good-ish paying one.

EDIT: Have been paid for it anyway!

I got a response from Prolific today about the Y T Wang study. They have awarded me an extra £2.18 (from Prolific not from the researcher) and they're contacting the researcher to as them to review their reward rates. I will avoid the Y T Wang studies in future I think as I'm pretty sure they knew this was an underpaying study.

Just got paid for this one.  I was a bit dubious about it as my evaluation was not as expected tbh.

I wont say too much obviously but I was half expecting a rejection for my conclusions but all was well.

All I will say is, if you get it just go with your instincts and don't doubt your conclusions.

I will avoid this researcher in future as well, after timing out of what ended up being a very long tedious study and then a while later starting exactly the same one again a few weeks later, which I returned as soon as I realised what it was.  Both underpaying by a long way.

I immediately reported the study to Prolific.

There has been a lot of discussion about this researcher on other 'Prolific' forums and it appears many others have had problems with impossible to complete and underpaying studies.

Y T Wang is on my list of researchers to be avoided.  It has been reported that he has been banned and did then have a second account with a variation on the name, so keep your eyes peeled.

After quite a long 'run' of 'Studies full' when attempting to reserve a place, I have today managed to reserve places on three  studies only to fail to load after clicking 'Start' or I have not been able to continue the Study because of other problems.    One I did start but could not proceed to the next page and the most recent one:  *"This site can’t be reachedueda.kokoro.kyoto-u.ac.jp took too long to respond".

I let Prolific know that there seemed to be a technical problem.  I sent the Researcher of the last one* a message before Returning the Study, and received this reply:  "It seems that the server has temporarily restricted traffic. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Unfortunately I have had no choice other than to Return the studies. I have never had so many Study notifications, responded very quickly to start them and nearly all are already full or unable to start/completre them.

It is disappointing and I wonder if anyone else having trouble like this today?

    Many thanks

    Crimson
  • Yes, I had a couple of studies today that were hosted on the ueda.kokoro.kyoto-u.ac.jp website, and in both cases I got a "connection timed out" error. I also pasted the domain into downforeveryoneorjustme.com, and found that the site was indeed (and still is) down for everyone.

I'm stuck on one  at the moment which won't let me progress because my prolific id is apparently not a valid number. Which is  a shame because I think they've made a mistake with the payment which is showing as the equivalent of £47 an hour. messaged the researcher but it'll probably time out in the meantime.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The researcher replied to me to say they'd fixed the problem as the field was set to only be numbers. Unfortunately I had returned the study as it was about to time out but hopefully you are now OK to proceed. Though I think that high hourly rate may be down to people returning the study after a minute or two.
