£2.55 bonus for me from the line-by-line study - they really did pay women half what they paid men?! (Or at least that's what I was told, was anyone told the other way around?)
Unless I misread it, I was told some fictitious (imo) male was to be paid half as much as me. I wonder if there were different versions of this study. My bonus was £5.10.
Did you do all the lines? If so, how many was your "all"? I think we may have been deceived despite all their fake-sounding protestations to the contrary.
Sorry if you have lost out but I think it depends how many lines were in your study.0 -
85 lines, 30p per line. Sounds like some people got paid 30p, some got 60p. Not exactly a big deal, £3.25 is still not bad for Prolific standards0

I'm glad to hear some people were told men would be paid half what women were paid, not just vice-versa0 -
I also meant 3p per line (with the other person getting 6p) rather than 30p/60p. Clearly not got my maths hat on on the weekend :rotfl:0

I did 85 lines too so did get the 3p per line I was told female participants would get. Guess Julicorn and I were just unlucky to be part of the lower paid group but I suppose some people had to be.

I can't believe they would get away with that, would they? Even in the name of so-called research? I think these researchers were lying through their teeth (what a surprise) They asked over and over whether we had discussed their study, didn't they? We could answer truthfully we had not, at the time they asked...0 -
I remember being told that another participant would be getting half as much as me. I don't recall the gender being mentioned, but that couid have been me skim reading. I've got the instructions somewhere - a bit complicated so I copied them just in case. I'll check in a bit.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Aww but think how much it would have wound mikep up, though...
Considering the time it took (me, at any rate) I don't think the lower rate is in any way justified, any more than is paying either gender less for the same work. Had you been asked to do half as many lines, as I was hoping, I could see their point.0 -
I timed it, the task took me 20 minutes. I've gotten paid less than that for that amount of time for Prolific studies before, and the researchers were clear from the start on how much I would get. There was also the opportunity to drop out if I thought it was too tedious. Ok, other people got paid more, but establishing that was clearly the aim of the experiment, so I don't have a problem with the money I got for it.0

I got 6p per line and did all 85 and was told men would get half that.0

Well, julicorn, I am glad it took you so little time, then. Clearly your typing leaves mine in the shade. I smelt a rat the moment they said a man would be paid less than me; had to be BS.0
