Well, julicorn, I am glad it took you so little time, then. Clearly your typing leaves mine in the shade. I smelt a rat the moment they said a man would be paid less than me; had to be BS.
Well, but it wasn't BS, was it? It's clear from this thread alone that some people got 3p, some got 6p. I also thought they were lying, but looks for once like they weren't after all.
I type A LOT at work. Was just thinking throughout the study that some people do equally boring data entry tasks for a living, I reckon that's what kept me going as well. Glad I don't have to do that all day long, and they probably get paid a lower hourly wage than we did for this one-off study :rotfl:0 -
Aww but think how much it would have wound mikep up, though...
Considering the time it took (me, at any rate) I don't think the lower rate is in any way justified, any more than is paying either gender less for the same work. Had you been asked to do half as many lines, as I was hoping, I could see their point.
Hopefully this study is over and I'm not giving anything away. But I imagine that's the point of the study?
They're going for valid research that might be publishable, they're not introducing variables specifically to annoy anyone. If they're paying men and women differently, then... that's what they want to investigate.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

I got £1.50 bonus. My survey paid me 3p per line but I was told a male doing the same lines would be getting paid 6p per line.I was offered 100 lines but left after 50 as had to go out and when I had started the survey it was offered as being less than ten minutes.0

I think it was BS because I think only female participants were eligible. Silverfairy seems to have got to the bottom of it. Knew there had to be a "get out" for the researcher. You can't pay people different amounts for the same work in this country; it is not legal.0 -

As far as I was aware researchers can pay what they want and to whom0 -

Yeah, I think you have a point. It is paying participants different amounts for doing exactly the same work that goes against the grain in this case; it is just wrong but they probably can get away with it. It should be at least the fantasy £5 ph, though which it would not have been for me at the lower rate. We cannot all type as fast as julicorn.0 -
I didn't believe for a minute that someone was actually getting paid twice as much as me per line. Looks like it was true. I got £2.55 bonus but I've just earned £4 for another study so I'm quite happy with PA.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0

Call me whatever, I would have been quite happy to be paid twice what a man was <ducks> Pitting women against each other is pathetic, imnvho. I still don't think they would have got away with actually paying us less than something with a richard but could be deluded.0 -
I signed up to the line typing one because it said it would take 7minutes which I had before friends came round.
I would have loved to have typed all out but alas I only managed 13 before I had to stopMortgage £75,300 (December 2016) Mortgage Free Date December 2051

It was obviously the point of the study, and I would assume that in the information sheet at the beginning it says something along the lines of you are under no obligation to take part if you so wish, as all studies on PA do. You're free to not take part in studies if you aren't happy with the incentive, and you literally could leave the experiment at any time.
Don't know why I'm bothering because you won't see this anyway...
