I am making sure I don't go over the £1K, just can't be bothered with the hassle. I am on a pension and it is taxed at source, so I currently don't do a SA. Seems like such a faff just to have to go in to it to declare the £1K.

I earned over 2K last year from prolific. I decided it was worth the hassle for that.

For whatever reason the taxman has just asked me to complete a return. Haven't done one for a couple of years as they told me they didn't want one. Fortunately I've been keeping good records so it's not much of an issue.

Could you have fallen into the group that Prolific (or others like etsy or eBay) have reported earnings to HMRC? I think Prolific said they would report earnings from Jan-Dec so not aligned with a tax year but it could have triggered an assumption that you're earning more than the £1000.

Does anyone have the 15 minute, $5 this or that studies?
The current batch I’m getting the prompt to be make a visual change and the options being 2 audio files. I’ve messaged the, but had to return the survey as it doesn’t make sense.

They are a bit strange. I think the idea is that the prompt doesn't change anything to do with the audio. So which audio sample best suits the reference video. All the way through this process I have had studies that don't make sense and returned them, only to keep getting them again. I've got to the point I do them all in the belief the boffins know best.

Yes I think I may well be in that group. In the calendar year I will be over £1K, but not the tax year.

The prompt to make a change isn't for you to make it. The video will or won't have already. Usually it's the audio representation your reviewing.
So far today I've done 6 audio AI evaluation ones back to back this afternoon and they are still appearing

I'm not explaining it well enough.
I have to judge between 2 audio files, when the prompt is something like "change the purple table for a red chair".

I've never seen any quite like that - but the bit at the top left tells you the criteria to use when choosing. It sometimes says to ignore the prompt unless you cannot decide between them. Key differences are that sometimes you are asked to choose the one you would prefer to hear. Other times you have to choose the one which best matches certain criteria - the one with the most action for instance, or the one with the least artifacts.
