That's all I need I'm stressed out enough about this as it is. Since I posted the light levels are really low where I am so I haven't attempted verification.  I would be really grateful if someone can advise me which device would be easiest for me to attempt the process, smartphone or tablet.  I'm gutted I can't use my desktop.

Use whichever one has a better camera. I've had some issues with verification because my phone camera is not good and the text on my id wasn't clear enough.

Phone camera should be fine for ID purposes - mine was back when I first signed up several years ago.

I've just had to do mine, and thankfully it went okay. Used passport (had to take a photo with my phone, annoying as I'd just hunted out my pdf scanned version), and did a little video type thing. Its just your head in the oval, then turn to one side then the other. I've been caught out with issues from low light before with these type of things, but this coped okay with the curtains closed and light on (dark and cold out today)
This was through Onfido verification, which is the one prolific mentioned in the email.

I've just been hit with the new ID check now too :( My photo ID's expired, so I'm now locked out of my account until I can get it renewed

I have just had the new ID come through, not done anything yet as was not sure if it was genuine so wanted to check first. Just e mailed my friend he has not had anything yet. I will try and do it tomorrow as lighting is not great now.

I had the request a couple of months ago (after over 8 years on there without) - used my driving licence and access to the site was re-granted immediately. Through the official provider mentioned.

I’ve just been asked to verify mine again as well. I might be getting confused when with when they were asking for the tax information, but I’m sure I’ve had to send them documents before. Perhaps it’s the camera bit that’s new now.

Yeah this is a new one. From what I've seen elsewhere they seem to be working through the older members who joined before photo ID was a requirement of joining

And generally, I've just checked the help center and it seems it's best to do within an hour of the notification otherwise we have to go through onboarding again

    https://participant-help.prolific.com/en/articles/445076-why-have-i-been-asked-to-recheck-my-identity

    "How does the check work?
    • Notification: You'll receive an in-app notification after completing a submission that triggers the verification requirement

    • Time limit: You'll have 1 hour to begin the verification process, and another hour to complete it once started

    • Process: The verification involves a simple face scan that confirms your identity

    • Completion: Once completed successfully, you'll regain full access to your account

What happens if I don't complete the check?

If you don't complete the verification within the given timeframe, your access to new studies will be temporarily frozen. You'll need to re-complete all verification steps (phone number, ID, and onboarding study) to regain access."

They should make that clearer they send you the message then.
Luckily, I did it straight away because I just happened to be sitting next to my passport but I’d been at work. I’d have missed the opportunity.
