Argos Advice Causing Injury

Hi all
I purchased some xmas tree lights over xmas period. I went out swimming and when i got home my girlfriend was in tears with shooting pains down her arm and she was worried as she has a bad heart as it is. I asked her what she had done, she said that she had plugged in the xmas tree lights and was wrapping them around the tree when she got an electric shock.
I got the lights and checked them, there was a bulb broken and the metal connections were exposed.
I took the lights right back to Argos and spoke with the store manager and told her the situation and that my girlfriend suffers from a bad heart. She told me this was a very serious matter and she would pass on our contact details to the correct department and we should have a call within a week but it maybe 2 weeks due to it being around xmas.
It got mid January and we heard nothing so i phoned up online customer service and asked them if they had received any details from my local store and sure enough they had not. So they took the details and passed them along to the health and safety team.
Today i received a letter saying that they are sorry for any stressed caused and that stock is approved by the quality assurance department ensuring they comply with relevant UK and EU safety standards.
While they appreciate the information i have provided it helps them monitor the performance of products and ensures they take any appropriate steps in the future and to contact them if i need further assistance.
To be honest i think that is pretty poor of them with such a reply.
I do have pictures of the lights that i still need to upload to my computer but i was wondering i could take this any further with legal action ?

What further legal action do you want? What loss have you incurred? Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Do you have to suffer loss to take legal action ?
I "could have" lost my someone close to me, i think this is a pretty serious matter hence why i am asking advice. She had panic attacks for a few days after that with chest pains but she is scared of hospitals so she did not want to attend.
I lost fuel taking this back to my store and also phone calls chasing up argos when they could have reported this is the first place.0 -
You are supposed to put the lights on the tree before plugging them in and turning them on.0

She also couldve been more observant and noticed a broken bulb?
How could argos have prevented this?0 -

Spot on. And no doubt it will say that in the instructions that came with the lights.0 -

Actually there was no instructions in the box on these particular lights.
It is very known for my local Argos to sell on returned goods though so this maybe the case. How do i know this you ask ? I shop at argos many times per month and we are constantly returning items that have obvious signs of usage.0 -
Broken bulb is the cause of the shock .
Who broke the bulb ??
Really you are looking for one of those injury lawyers if you are after compo .
For which you will require medical notes and all the other stuff and be prepared to stand before a court .0
