Governments don't like taking rights away. It tends to be unpopular!TheEffects wrote: »I wanted to inquire is it me or its it completely unfair, that those whom passed driving test before jan 1997, have all these outrageous categories.
What amazes me is that I have to do annual training for my job. If I don't. my professional body can fine me or strike me off (making me effectively unemployed). But the most dangerous thing I do is my drive to and from work.
If we really, really wanted to reduce road deaths, we might think about doing annual training for all drivers. Perhaps every 2-3 years? But no Government will do that, and we're all accepting that people will die.
Crazy, huh!0 -
But, as with CPC, that's not needed for just personal use. MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) is relevant to community transport organisations, such as charities/dial-a-ride etc.Charities around the country have to keep sending their minibus drivers on MIDAS courses every few years, to keep their magic MIDAS certificate up-to-date. Without that, you won't be allowed to drive.0 -

There literally isn't enough time in the day to do that. 10mil people a year doing a test would cost an absolute fortune to administer.
Driver training course being given out for minor offences would be a good idea though.0 -
Obviously, every year would be massive overkill. Once a decade feels about right, more frequently for new drivers and the elderly. There literally isn't enough time in the day to do that. 10mil people a year doing a test would cost an absolute fortune to administer.
It would be self-funding, of course, through test fees. The test practical is currently £62. Once a decade, that is hardly onerous for the privilege of driving. Roll the photocard re-issue in with it, and it's less than a fiver a year more than now.0 -

I think I have seen one in the past month, not a big problem. How many people do you know, that drive a 16 seater for personal use. Maybe the odd 8 seater, its not a problem.0 -
Sorry, but I don't believe this. I took my car test ten years before that (1971) and it was 45 minutes of intensive town driving, with an examiner with a detailed checklist. I can assure you there was plenty of traffic.
The motorbike test I took the following year was a joke, however. Literally twice round the block, once in each direction, and don't hit the examiner when he steps out for your emergency stop. That gave you a licence for any bike of any capacity.
I passed mine in 1967,the test was about 3/4s of an hour through a town, had to do hill start, three point turn, reverse into a side road, emergency stop etc as well as competent driving.Bear in mind we had to use hand signals even if the vehical had indicators:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Anyone with the correct entitlement on their licence can, so I bet that’s millions of people that don’t need the CPC you keep insisting is a requirement.0
