I doubt very much that more than a handful of people who post here, pay in a year.

We get about one person every 4 months say they will pay. People are happy to ignore, always were, always will be; I've ignored PPCs myself before POPLA existed and the letters have been a source of forum amusement for as long as I've posted here:

No, that was your choice and it's absolutely without question, a wrong choice.

The BMPA give free advice too and say the same as us.

Your money though. You are very rare here, believe me.

Maybe I'm rare in that I'll post feedback on my experiences here, how many threads sink without trace and the OP has actually just paid up? You can't put a figure on this can you?

The BMPA link would have been helpful before I'd paid.

I've posted here for ten years and whilst it's impossible to say if some people do silently pay up, why would they? We tell them how to win.

It's a daft decision to pay (sorry but it really was wrong).

It was in the NEWBIES thread near the top, I recommend them to all newbies:
Q -''Where else can I go for free advice, how about Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)?''

A - THE CAB (SADLY) INVARIABLY GIVE TERRIBLE ADVICE ABOUT THESE CHARGES (HAVE EVEN DONE SO OFFICIALLY ON THIS FORUM), SO AVOID! A VERY GOOD FREE RESOURCE IS THE CHARITY CALLED THE 'BRITISH MOTORISTS' PROTECTION ASSOCIATION' (BMPA). YOU DON'T NEED TO PAY FOR THIS ADVICE.

Do you accept the reasons I've given for feeling that I had to pay?

Can you see by reading back the thread that I asked on numerous occasions whether I needed to respond and that nobody clarified? And my reasons that I found your reply that you later said with which I should have known how to respond, do you see why I was confused and wanted the clarification?

I would imagine many people pay up and don't give feedback on their reasons, because they feel like after the initial help, they've let those people down and feel bad that they've not been able to see it through. Can you accept that at least some people will do this, or do you think I'm the only one?

Honestly, no. We know what we are doing and you paid for no reason, IMHO.
'Doing nothing' isn't actually doing nothing.. it's spending more time worrying and having this hanging over me.
That was like paying a Nigerian email scammer, just because you couldn't face ignoring the emails.
Can you accept that at least some people will do this, or do you think I'm the only one?
I think I can count on one hand the people per year who come here, get advice, then actually pay up.

I say this because I don't just post here, I also help people in my spare time with this scam and have only ever had one person I was helping off forum, pay. In years. And she was wrong, would have won. And none of those people disappeared without coming back to me, I am very hands on, chase people up, stay in touch throughout (like here).

So as she was the only one of hundreds off forum, I think that's a true picture of here too.

Then you are deluding yourself and others. I would bet my life that many lose their nerve and bottle it and pay up but don't post here to say so.

But nonetheless I would like to thank you for your advice and more so for the help you give to others who actually see this through until the end and save paying their hard earned cash into these scams.

    All the best.

I think you are right in that some/many people do pay up. They realise they have to do a bit of reading and write a few letters. It's easier to just pay up and it goes away. You are perfectly entitled to do the same.
At the moment you owe £100, am I right? If you don't pay you will get more letters and then one from bw legal demanding £154. They will send lots of letters which look official and are threatening. They will say you owe £200 or more. But you don't. They tell lies.
It's up to you. Pay up if you want but I would prefer if you didn't.
As I said in a previous post I was worried like you but am now just playing ping pong every 6 months or more with them.

"so if you have decided to .... stuck for words ......... pay, then the least you can do is repay the time spent on this forum by watching the video I linked to a few posts back and then complain to your MP using your self as an example"

Thank you for your reply Fixtrace, and for your kind offer to help me from this point. I did owe £100 and I paid up I'm afraid!

Thank you, Ralph. I did watch that video the first time it was linked on this thread but in among all the madness I didn't really know how I should relate it to my predicament. I'll certainly email my MP's with an account of my experience, although as I'm £40 worse off than I would have been if I paid the initial charge I'm not sure I have any debt to 'repay the time spent on this forum.'

It was your choice to pay though, despite the time spent here, not because of it. :)

Yes, of course it was my choice to pay. You can't dispute that I asked on numerous occasions on this thread 'Do I need to respond to this' and, for whatever reasons, the people who had been so helpful early on chose not to reply to me until I had no choice but to pay the charge.
