anyone any ideas for my sons 7th birthday in the summer. he's a little too old for ball pool parties, but I think a little bit too young for only a couple of friends and doing cinema / pizza hut, and discos are for girls!
Has anyone had magician / clown / similar?
Bless him, he's told me to surprise him with the idea this year!!!
any help is appreciated
Thanks0 -
There have been a few discussions about this. My son will be 6 this year and I cannot afford to pay for an entertainer/do the playarea or football party. I also object to paying out £80 ish for an entertainer plus the rest of the party stuff, when I can't afford it. My son has said he wants his party at home and as his birthday is in May and we have a big enough garden with play things, I'm going along that route. I may also combine parties with a boy in his year who is 6 a couple of days before. We are going to go back to old fashioned games and party food and let them run riot in the garden.
So, it's pin the tale on the donkey, musical statues and jelly and ice cream all round. And I'll bet you most of them haven't been to a party like that!
However, if weather/lack of space preclude at home parties, then ask around for recommendations. I once went to a party and the 'entertainer' was so bad, all the kids kept wandering away, leaving the adults to watch out of politeness.
Another thought - we went to a party and the 'entertainer' was a chap who showed the kids snakes, spiders, birds of prey etc and let them handle them. I terrified DS1 by allowing a tarantula to walk up my arm. The kids loved it. This chap was in the north west, so don't know what you have near where you are.0 -

My kids parties are on a budget of £10 which covers food, sweets and goodie bags. Also a homemade cake on top of that. Old fashioned party games, listening to music and then to wind down watch a dvd - a free rental trial of course;)
As long as they are with their friends it doesn't matter. If weather allows then outside in the garden on a blanket, than you have minimal clearing up after.
I would never spend £80 on a present, so £80 on a party would be totally out of the question!
Too many kids do the bowling/mac d's thing, and a traditional party is a well received rarity these days.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Thanks for your suggestions, I quite like the animal idea. I don't mind traditional games etc, but wanted some back up in case they run riot! Have just had a quote from local magician at £140 for 2 hours, so that's a no go! Will go and swot up on party games!0

Modgit are you looking for moneysaving ideas for a party?
Or are you asking for suggestions on what type of entertainment to supply?
A bouncy castle is always fun, we used to hold parties in the local sports centre where the castle was setup in the sports hall and various balls and hoops were available too, then they had a room where we laid out the food, taken with us in party boxes,
we also had a couple of tennis parties, local tennis centre would give them 45 mins 'tennis training' lots of fun stuff involved and then they provided food after, used to be about £4.50 per head,
one year [I think son was around 8] we had booked a sports hall for a football party, and son broke his leg week before, so we had to cancel and hired local hall and magician instead, we found him on internetI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards.
