    Neither.

Why do you need to spend £500+ on a mobile phone?
I was wondering the same, now you have the S8, whats so important to spend hundreds on the S9 that you must have it?

By all means, spend hundreds of pounds on some minor upgrades, but be aware that that is all you are getting and that it is within your means to do so.

Personally, I'd hang on to my cash, but that's my choice.

Hear we go someone wants advice if the S8 will drop in price much with the S9 coming out and is upgrading from a S6. Totally a sane question to ask but we have the grumps moaning why would you spend so much on a smart phone.

They're so eager to get in there that they think the person already owns a S8 but they actually own an S6.

They have no interest in buying a smart phone over £500 but tell others not to buy a phone over £500 even though the person never asked if they think spending £500+ on a smart phone is too much.

  • I reckon you should get a bog standard Android phone for half the price which can probably do 99% of the things on a S8

Well, OP is bothered to ask for advice on how to save some money, wait etc, I don't think it is that unreasonable to suggest much bigger saving in not chasing the label.
Personally, I'm still perfectly happy with my newest £80 worth Chinese phone, however, if I didn't know better, I'd possibly would try to look for "best" phone and little savings on it.
    Just saying ;)

Great specs and even appearance similar to S8, perhaps?

Maybe I put too much faith in a person in that when they ask a specific question about something that they have already decided thats what they want and are looking for answers to the question.

But hey if the OP suddenly decides that buying a S8 or S9 is suddenly a bad idea based on a few posts and they now want a device under £500 or £100 then more power to them.

Maybe the next post they make on the forum should be around asking for advice on how best to make purchases based on value, worth and price so that they don't come close to spending 50-100% over what they should have.

  • Thanks for all your suggestions, I appreciate them all.

As noted, I have an S6. Personally, and it is personal interests that matter here, I like the Samsung model. The S6 has lasted me 3 years and performed admirably, but the battery is poor now and charging intermittent.

Based on the prices above, I (personally) don't consider a phone for approx £580 a bad investment over a 3 year life, particularly as the advancements with the camera mean I don't have to fork out on a Nikon or similar. Less than £20 per month seems fine to me, and there's an element of money saving in there too.

The question still remains as to whether it's the S8 or the S9 now....i might flip a coin.
  • Personally I would with for the s9 on a black Friday deal if you're buying via Vodafone the s8 was 27 pcm with 6gb if you have seen the posts.

The s8 has the annoyingly placed Finger print scanner at the side of the camera and the s9 rectified this.

I went for the s7 edge as the front placement seems to work better for me, but Vodafone have a rubbish deal ATM my girlfriend is paying 28 for an s7 on a red entertainment 8gb deal with Spotify. But the price went up 5 pounds since last month.

Coming from an s6 though you'd want a decent generation leap.

The S6 is expected to get an Android Oreo update after the S7.
The generation leap may not be that massive.
