Wait for S9 for S8 price drop?
Options
Hi all,
Currently have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and plan to upgrade to a S8. I am with Vodafone but monitoring prices across networks. I'm at the point where my phone is close to it's final days. Will the release of the S9 in 6 weeks or so bringabout a price drop for the S8? Should I wait for this to see?
Thanks in advance.

I am in the same boat as yourself, I would presume the price will steadily drop of the S8 model and S8 contracts as this is what I'll be doing. Considering nowadays the new models of phone come with very novelty upgrades and previous models do exactly the same on a whole.0

A quick check of Amazon seems to show the sim free S7 didn't significantly drop in price for a good while after the release of the S8. Contracts may be a different story though of course.0

That's right, generally the price drops somewhat before release of the new model but then stabilises (or even goes up a bit) until it's time to clear out the unsold units.0 -
Have a look at this deal with Vodafone retentions which, they honored with me. I think it is pretty good;

Well the answer to my original question now appears as yes. The S8 is now available for £501.00.
However, I can purchase the S9 for £586.50 through Samsung when I trade in my current phone. That seems like a no brainer, despite the minimal improvements in the phone from the S8.
I will pay for the phone outright and remain on a sim-only contract.
I'm cross-cutting threads here slightly so i apologise, but does anyone have any suggestions on the best 0% credit cards for mobile phone purchases? My credit score is almost perfect.

Apply via a cashback site and you might also get cashback for taking some of them out.0 -

Thank you.
What are the risks of buying from Germany?
Probably still go with S9 despite the uncertainty on performance.0 -
Hasn't really dropped particularly since the announcement of the S9 though. It's been up and down around that price for a while now according to the 3 camels.
Buying from amazon.de may be a good option if you decide to go for the S8. Although watch out for any currency conversion your card may do.0 -
Neither.
Why do you need to spend £500+ on a mobile phone?0
