yet one can't argue with success and network marketing is worth in excess of $200 Billion.

It's worth that much to the people who run these scams, but not to the people who pay out for joining packs etc. and get nothing in return.
interestingly in Japan one can buy a Toyota Car from your neighbour via network marketing!

In the UK you can buy a car from your neighbour simply by going and knocking on his door. You don't have to to pay a MLM scam any money, and the car doesn't have to be a Toyota.

I strongly recommend anyone considering getting involved in this business to do their homework; check out every claim made and understand the business

But that's the problem, you can't understand the business. They don't actually tell you what the business is until they have your money and it's too late.

I strongly recommend you walk away from anything that asks for money up front. Also walk away from anything that doesn't tell you exactly what you will be doing to earn the money. The reason they don't tell you is because if you knew what it was you would never pay the joining fee.

Look at any of the ways to make money on this site, and you will see that all the ones where people are making money, they knew exactly what they would be doing before joining and never had to pay anything up front.

I comprehensively disagree with this answer and here's why:
    • If you haven't the common sense to keep asking questions, of the person inviting you into that business, until you are satisfied in your own mind it is right for you, then you are asking for a bad experience and are, therefore, quite naive.
    • Virtually every business opportunity that is legitimate is based on a real product; if there is no product then it is definitely risky. The reason why you pay a fee is that the products are not 'free'; therefore, how do you know if will like those products unless you try them.
    • If you want to check out a company that you like the look of, then try their products first! How can you recommend products unless you feel comfortable with them?
The only item of common sense here is the comment 'walk away from anything that they don't explain what you will be doing'.

Here's some wisdom on this whole topic:
    • Ask questions until you are totally happy,
    • ask to meet people already involved (a good company will have Open Evenings going on nationwide),
    • go to their head office and meet the Managing Director,
    • check them out on the Office of Fair Trading Website
    • ask to see their products and see what you are getting for your money if you buy a starter kit - it's your money after all!
    • make sure your consumer rights are intact: i.e. you have a 14-day cooling off period to try the box and send it back for your money back if you aren't happy.
Finally, network marketing never let anyone down; unfortunately people do let other people down because they have low ethics and integrity and are unscrupulous. Network Marketing is now regulated by the Office of Fair Trading in the UK; do your research on their website and read about this business.

If you don't, then you'll possibly end up having an un-welcome experience; unless you bump into someone like me who has the integrity and code of conduct to be professional.

    ciao.
