I think you've had plenty of legal advice on here but reading this has made me feel sick at the pit of my stomach. If I understand it right the LL has asked for repossession of the property to move back into himself? And they will be completely unaware that this is not happening till the day they expect to move? Given that there is a LA involved also you seem to be dealing with a small scale LL or accidental LL and not some big, bad property tycoon.
I became an accidental LL when I had to move for a job secondment for a couple of years. They idea of finding out from my tenants that actually they are not leaving ON THE DAY that I expect to move back would probably lead to me having a nervous breakdown as the prospect of organising accommodation for myself and my young family (plus nursery etc) at extremely short notice when a move is already an upheaval would be too overwhelming.
I understand that you have the right to stay legally .and that moving for you would also be inconvenient as your completion date is soon as well but please do give the LL a chance to sort their own life as well. I think that would be the moral thing to do and is definitely better for your karma.
Sorry for the preaching but I would truly be devastated if my tenant did that to me and it would have huge repercussions on my family life.0 -

Thank you for the comment. I'm atheist and don't believe in Karma, but I do share LL's devastation like you do even when there is a lot more background story than on the surface. LA has strung us along since Nov, mislead us resutling in very little time for us to leave in Jan which would have been best for me and LL. I had to swallow the bitter pill too.
Not wanting to move isn't a matter of inconvenience but for financial reason i.e. a saving of £1300+ if we stay put. LL owns 3 flats in the same building but it should be irrelevant because I am trying to work out an earliest possible date that I can warn him and have ourselves protected if that makes your stomach slightly better. I am a planner so I'd like to know what my leverages are and hopefully work out some certainly for both of us.0 -

There's your problem, as a Landlord its your duty to know the rules and regulations surrounding your business. Any Landlord worth their salt knows that a S21 is a notice to seek possession through the courts and not an eviction.
If a landlord did decide to organised everything around a date that no one but themselves has agreed to, then i'm sorry, but i find myself completely deprived of sympathy.*Assuming you're in England or Wales.0
