So considering the Bank holidays, that was 3 working days :T
Yes, they are full of surprises! I posted my cheque on Wednesday, two days ago, earliest they could get it was yesterday and the cheque is showing in my bank account today!
They are a funny mixture, a bit clunky in some aspects but I don't think I've ever had anything this quick before.0 -
Hmmm not sure what to do about Loughborough BS re: Save to Buy. On paper, it is very good. But...
...for postal applications, you need to send certified copies of ID documents. My local solicitor charges £10 per document or the Post Office do it for £10.50. So that's about £20 I need to spend before even opening the account.
The 3% is variable and it increased from 1.5% last month. They have the right to decrease the rate with 14 days' notice. With this being a small BS, I can see them having a sudden influx of applications and potentially lowering the rate very quickly.
I phoned them up earlier this morning re: account closure and spoke to a very helpful man. Whilst the terms say the closure transaction must be completed at Head Office, that merely means sending the passbook with a covering letter.
I was reminded that the account is not designed to be used as a standalone saver but that there is nothing stopping me.
I'm out with this one. The upfront cost along with the variable rate are enough reasons for me.
Good luck to those who go for it, get your applications in quickly before they inevitably amend the terms.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

Good news re the account closure process!
Did the nice man that you spoke to this morning discuss with you whether or not they might be prepared to electronically identify you?0 -

I asked that, they said they would do that with both in-branch and postal applications. However, original documents would still be needed in-branch and certified copies for postal applications.
I suppose there's no harm just sending an application form with a cheque and see what turns up.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
The thought of using a stamp though...

Ipswich Building Society could be an alternative to Loughborough Building Society providing you live in a designated post code.

Now says in branch only and I can't find a workaroundFingerbobs wrote: »It is now. It was open for online applications for a short time just before Easter, but the online option was quickly removed.
I was late to the party as well, so resorted to a postal application instead which has gone through fine and the account opened.
There's probably an unspecified grace period on postal application submissions, although we're likely beyond that point by now...0 -
Posted signed application form and cheque on Tuesday 23rd, passbook arrived today showing cheque deposited into account on Wednesday 24th, so fast work. Cheque is showing as pending in my bank account so will clear in account on Monday. Have applied for online activation today and received a confirmation email. So should all be up and running before the 1st May."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

My Saffron RS I3 is recently mature wen I called them they tols me I can not transfer the balance to my nominated account.
For this I will need to fill in the maturity from and then send them back together with the passbook. I have been trying to locate the maturity form online but could not find it.
What is the easiest / best way to close your Saffron RS I3 and open the new one ?
Is it possible to do it by sending them a secure message.
Any info will be really appreciated.
Thanks0 -

My bank did it for freeRetired 1st July 2021.
This is not investment advice.

It looks like the form that you need is about half way down this page under "Extra Information"
This forum will not allow me to post a direct link to the page so go to the Saffron BS website & type the link below into the address bar after the .co.uk
/savings/maturity/
Hope this works for you.0
