Branch only since IT melt down. Try by phone, let us know, but others have said couldn't do it.

Branch only, but allow about half an hour - they insist on following the script and the IT system the staff are using is as buggy (if not more so) as the one customers have online.

Also best to make an appointment if travelling specially - the staff are busy and need extra time per application to make sure it works.

I know that there are quite a few of us who would never consider opening a TSB Monthly Saver in branch or via phone (if that was an option). Absolute madness for the minority of us.

  • Hi Folks,

    Here is this weekend's update.

    - Leeds BS Regular Saver (Issue 20) added to post 4 by popular demand on the basis that it is easy to open and close online (which I was unaware of and I agree that makes it attractive)

    - Ipswich BS Smart Save (Issue 2) interest rate increased from 2.85% to 2.90% updated in post 4

    - Chorley BS Loyalty Santa Saver (Issue 1) added to post 7 (as the account will run for less than 12 months as it is available to open from 1st November and matures at the end of October 2019) paying 2.5% variable on up to £350 per month for people who have been a member for 12 months or longer; note that you cannot make withdrawals or close the account early except for death but you can switch the account to another type if they drop the interest rate

    - Chorley BS Santa Saver (Issue 2) added to post 7 - details as above but pays 2.25% on up to £250 per month for people who have not been a member for 12 months

I will do another update the weekend after next.

I opened the TSB Classic Plus current account this morning in under half an hour. Very efficient, friendly, knowledgeable staff member who wasn't pushy at all. I imagine opening a regular saver would be even less time. Whenever I have opened regular savers in branch by other providers, it's taken less than 10 minutes.

If you want to open a TSB regular saver, do it. Don't pay attention to anyone saying it only suits a minority of people. Everyone's circumstances or goals are different.

Oh aj23, if only you knew.

There are some us who want to keep a low profile when it comes to interacting with TSB staff members.

Which is why a 'minority of us' don't want to apply for a monthly saver over the phone/in branch.

'Congratulations' on opening a current account with them.

Some of us don't live anywhere near a branch. It would take over an hour to reach my nearest.

They are just paying 2% interest, so not attractive anyway.

karlie88's cryptic comments have nothing to do with the interest rate.

However, I do think she should stop making them:cool:
