trisontana wrote:That seems to happen in some American programmes such as "Forensic Detectives". Perhaps a lot of Americans have problems with their short term memory and forget things during the (many) commercial breaks !
My girlfriend absolutely detests that M & S advert, the "this isn't just a chocolate cake, its a blah, blah, blah".Questions are a burden for others; answers a prison for oneself.0 -
Having a 3 year old, we tend to watch Cbeebies at some time during the day. It makes my blood boil seeing virtually all the presenters being "non white" and the grossly out of proportion number of "non white" children shown in the programs. The politically correct brigade have really gone to town with Cbeebies. Some programs like Story Makers have no "white" presenters at all and nearly all the "stories" are about "non white" children. Out of the five Cbeebies presenters, only two are white (just 40%). When the programs include "real children", they often include asian or african festivals, but I've never seen one that mentions Easter!
I do not consider myself racist, and I would be happy to see Cbeebies include a "proportional" amount of non white presenters and children - if the non white population of the UK is 10%, then I would expect 10% of the presenters and children to be non-white. I wouldn't even mind if the proportions were altered to "help" children appreciate diversity etc., i.e. double the proportion to say 20-30% non white, but I cannot accept the situation where the majority are non white in a country where the population is majority white.
Also, why is it that in most programs, men are portrayed as blithering idiots yet women are portrayed as being brilliant. Just look at Balamory to see what I mean. Also there is a shortage of male presenters - out of 5, only 2 are male.
I am sure the Cbeebies would never be allowed if it showed the reverse - i.e.
if there was a majority of white presenters and children and women were shown to be stupid.
Luckily, my little boy likes Channel 5's "Milkshake" first thing in the morning, (where presenters and children are more proportioned) and we have plenty of other things to do in the day to avoid watching Cbeebies.0 -
I hate:
Everything on the OPs list
Test the Nation
Yes, the M&S and KFC adverts!
Constant repeats of Only Fools and Horses
Alistair McGowan
Any reality programme especially those with the word "celebrity" in the title
Anything with Lorne Spicer in it
Bank of Mum and Dad and that other rubbish one that was on the BBC lately which quite honestly should have had Martin presenting it rather than that useless ginger woman
That really annoying Welsh bloke on the BBC news that can't manage a news report without a) use of crap powerpoint presentations and b) talking to the audience as if they have the intelligence of a gnat!
What I like:
Anything with Gordon Ramsay in it
No Angels
Desperate Housewives
Kath and Kim
Any programme featuring Australia
Have I Got News for You
Selling Houses / House Doctor (trying to get some tips for when our house goes on the market!)

I agree. It has been acceptable for years to show men as idiots, but not women. I know things used to be bad, but feminism has driven things too far in the opposite direction
This is why I love the 'dont expect any help on a thursday' adverts for zoo (or is it nuts?). I am sure that women can take the joke. Its better than seeing adverts where all men care about is women, beer and football (oh dear, thats what zoo and nuts are full of!)0 -
Does make me laugh that advert, but then I end up whistling the Great Escape theme tune for hours afterwards........!0

Pennywise,
I've been thinking the same thing.
And I'm sure your right there would be a backlash if it were the other way!
And I detest the programmes that treat 11 yr olds to a diet of absolute garbage (!!!!!! & Dom in the bungalow) quite why is it funny to shout 'bogies' as loud as you can in a public place?
!!!!!! & Dom also feel its completely OK to make fun of everyone except if :
non-White
non-Hetrosexual
non-Married
non-Young
As Billy Connoly puts it he's the only one you can make fun of and not get sued!!
Whatever happened to peoples sense of humour?
Goodness Gracious Me is an hillarious programme.
Love the sketch about going for an english!, that sketch isn't insulting, its funny!!!!
I am not racist, iI just think the whole thing has gone to far. There is a difference between being funny and being rude and insulting - TO ANYONE!
Sorry this is about annoying things on TV, Just agreeing with a previous post!0 -

There was a thing on TV the other day that seemed to be nothing more than an exploitation of bodily functions and noises ... don't ask me what it was. DW explained that it was apparently all the rage at the minute with kids who found it hysterical ... this does seem to be played out by a family group we saw in the restaurant yesterday were the kids seemed to be having a competition to see who can burp the loudest ... much to the amusement of the parents and annoyance of the other diners. Is this really the sort of entertainment that we pay a licence fee or subscription to obtain?
Whatever happend to things like 'How' and 'Magpie' ... I know 'Blue Peter' is still about but have heard that, like many other kids programmes, it has really dumbed down lately as well.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Neighbours &
Home & Away are bad bad bad
remember Rolf Harris - groan :eek:Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
