Rented House advice

Is it just me? .......
OP moved from well payed Leeds into a nice new house in Wales. Then the girlfriend moved in. Now he's trying to figure how to get the taxpayer to either pay the rent, or re-house her and pay the rent, while he "lives at his parents"?
Suggestions on how to actually get her out and re-claim residence don't seem to garner much enthusiasm.
To the uncharitable eye, It's almost as if he's looking for the best way to play the system and save a few hundred quid in rent every month.
But maybe that is just me.0 -
I'm wondering how long it will be before the OP moves onto the drive in a caravan and starts looking for somewhere to bury his great Dane........

But what I'm hoping is that by talking and agreeing to go to the council offices together, it is a step towards making the situation between me and ex GF more amicable.
Presuming that the landlord will NOT agree to change the name on the tenancy agreement, then at least by going to the council offices we can also discuss ex GF next options with the homelessness department there, because she appears to be at risk of homelessness.
I've realized that I am in a weak position regarding my furniture and the CCJ. So I need to get ex girlfriend out of the house.
How much is the local housing allowance compared to the amount of rent you were paying? You don't need to go to the council offices to find that out.
It is unlikely that the LHA will cover the entire rent. Are you going to pay the difference?
Did you have to pass credit checks to see if you could afford the rent? If you did then how is your ex girlfriend going to pass them? The landlord isn't going to change their business model to suit you.0 -
LHA for two bedroom is just over £400 a month.
Rent is £800 a month.
I'm not really expecting the LHA to go ahead, but it's potentially something to discuss with ex girlfriend, as a way to becoming more amicable again.
I'm expecting council to say it's unlikely to be realistic and expecting the landlord to say no to changing the tenancy. But by that point ex girlfriend and me will be in the council offices and can move on to discussing next options. If this comes from someone at the council offices, ex GF will react better than it coming from me.0 -
Ex Girlfriend was claiming LHA in Leeds, so I don't see how this can be a cunning plan to cost the council more money. If anything, it's actually saved them money and cost me.0

I told the council tax department when ex Girlfriend moved.
My understanding is that council tax is a criminal matter, so needs to be taken seriously. Same with benefits. But most others are civil matters.
I didn't know that bailiffs could seize someone's parents goods, so glad I found that out.0 -
No, I'm obviously not planning to pay the extra £400 rent on top of LHA. Even if there was to be any LHA.
My plan is to make things as amicable as possible, and regain entry to the house without causing a big argument. Then I can change the locks.
I think once ex girlfriend has spoken to the council and probably CAB face to face, she'll realise she can't stay in this house and she will move on. But this house is much nicer than the one she had in Leeds, so it's hard for her to accept. I can understand that, because for me it's easy to just go back to my parents house. But for her and the kids it's a big upheaval.0 -

Not sure why you think I'm from a certain community, if that's what you're hinting at?
I've always been politically compliant and always will.0 -
Yes, I want to avoid confrontation, unless absolutely necessary.
I want everything handled in a calm manner.
Ex girlfriend tested me again today, so I am hoping to actually meet and be back into the house this weekend.0 -

Because we used to live together.0
