KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Daisy, I think you're in the middle of 'MK Tetris' - where you have to move X so you can put Y in there, but then X has no place to go until you've got Z out the way ... persevere, it's all worth it in the end!
I took another two bags to the CS yesterday, where does it all come from, since I am not ready bringing much into the house now? It felt good to get them out of the way.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
blood and gore, I can`t read them, read one sentence and that was enough, so two more books are out. I haven`t got many fiction books left and am not sure about reading kindle in bed, it is a screen and I am sleeping well these days. Don`t want to ruin the sleep pattern. I have some phillippa gregory and conn iggulden to get through, I will only read them once and they will go too. Oh and I have one robert harris, I bet I don`t like it after one page.0

So true, Polly, tetris is a good description. Like you, more items gone to the CS and shredded paperwork to the dump. And that feeling of, where has this all come from?!
I had a chance to view a flat exactly the same as the one I hope to move to. I took a tape measure, and was reassured to find that the hanging rail in the fitted wardrobe is three inches longer than in my current home. However, there's one storage cupboard less, and only one bedroom, so the great reckoning continues.
It really does feel like a Life Laundry process! I've had to acknowledge the interests that have gone forever, which were engrossing at the time, but no longer spark joy. This is where the MK process is worth doing at least once a year, as we do change over time, and what I felt on passes one and two, that I might get back to three particular past passions, I now know their time has passed. And I'm content with that knowledge.0 -
Weemidgie, I agree that this is an ongoing process. The more stuff you get rid of, the more you realise that your "sparking point" is getting higher."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0

The book I read by RH was called pompeii, the one I have left is called an officer and a spy. Not sure about it, yet
That woo struck yet again, in my bank account this morning, interest from a savings account. Wasn`t expecting that either.0 -
We've been through everything at least twice now, but stuff is always going - 4 children means that there is always stuff on the move, let alone mine/ OH's/ household items. Parts of our house are now reasonably minimalist to look at in terms of numbers of items - but not that noticeable as such as to what people often think of as traditionally minimalist, as there is a lot of colour and texture around. I love the extra space more than extra things
Yesterday's 'outs' were some tiny lidded pots bought when various of the children were small for weaning purposes and passed on to my sister, who has a 5 month old. Also gave her some teabags which OH and I didn't like.
Pending items are a book borrowed from my mum which I have now read and will return (she keeps books by a handful selected authors for re-reading) and some items listed on/ to list on fleabay (less than a dozen listings) Oh - I also have a bag of a few things to go to foodbank collection and 2 bags of random items for shoebox appeal - I'm hanging on to the latter until after Easter hols, though, as I will hopefully add a few small items when going through DS2 and DS3's rooms with themMy tolerance for excess/ unwanted 'stuff' is waaaaay lower than it used to be

tetris made me smile, moving things about to get to the nitty gritty, filling two spaces while emptying one
I did some seed sowing in pots earlier, the sun was warm on my back and no coat. Then I prepared 5 large pots for new plants arriving soon. Suddenly it was dark and the rain came and it was cold. I think it is all about grabbing opportunities at the moment, wherever they are0 -

Just been helping a friend play 'Tetris' - her bedroom was full of boxes, she hasn't unpacked some stuff since she moved two years ago, and since then her dad died and she had to clear his house. I was there to keep her focused, she freely admitted that on her own she'd have got sidetracked by starting to go through random things, or just given up!
We swapped two bookcases over and threw out several bags of accumulated rubbish, she stIll has a lot of stuff to sort but she's emotionally a bit fragile at the moment. As we moved her chest of drawers, there was a lot of stuff that had fallen down the back. I bent down and retrieved 'The Life Changing Magic of Tidying'. I think that's called irony!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0
