Wort - no - never had a problem with slugs on any cane fruit. Morrys also do good fruit canes - I bought a thornless blackberry there a couple of years ago and its been superb! Fruit the size of your thumb and a heavy cropper - plenty for two of us from 1 plant.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I had 2 blackberries, once, we even built the supports and wires. It was loch ness and they were marvellous for three years and then came the runners, all over the soil and in my neighbours allotment. We took it all down and eventually the runners stopped but they became quite a nuisance. No point here tbh as I am in the middle of countless blackberry hedges. I don`t miss it
I sorted my seed sowing plan today, soil is so cold, even the covered soil. I am not starting anything until late march/early april, late this year but no point any earlier as I am not growing tomatoes or chillis. You are brave GQ, I could not face clearing another plot
No real MK today, except I am handing my unused MK book to a dd, she can read and keep or sell or give away, I already had it on kindle. The book `chimp paradox` is going out. I am still aware, however, of anything that could go, like the third set of tongs. I have no inclination to get going on the 2 rooms on the north side, sewing room upstairs and craft/muddle room downstairs.0 -
I'm approx 20 years younger than you, kittie, don't expect I'd want to clear a derelict plot again in another 20. Mind you, all you get up to makes me feel tired just reading about it....... :rotfl:
Got a v.bad cold which clamped down on me overnight, have actually been up since 4 am as couldn't sleep properly. Read a book and drank redbush tea on the sofa. No gardening for me today, and possibly not for a few days, I have a couple of pre-existing medical conditions which make it a bit harder to get over lurgies.
Ne'mind, I can sit here and fiendishly plan Plot2. Although, as we are bearing down hard on Good Friday, and the potato patch prep on Plot1 requires a bit more effort, I will have to concentrate on that.
Once the taters are in, I'll leave it til mid-April before sowing anything else and spend some time showing Plot2 Cold Steel and Attitude.
Pal came over yestereve about 9.30 pm to collect the several bags of spent coffee grounds from my outdoor cupboard, they're in the back of his car atm and he'll leave them on my allotment later today or tomorrow. Top bloke. I will be heading out again in a few mins to get the next bag of coffee, it's a full time job being a greeny-gardeningy type of person.
Not a lot getting cleared out at the homestead but several bits & bobs will leave on Good Friday on a one-way trip to the family home. So pleased not to have that microwave any more, yay!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I looked in w!lko they only had one, and it was dead, I. E the stick had two leaves both of which were brown and crispy!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0

I put raspberry canes in the same raised bed my strawberries were in, hoping that as they are at different levels I could get both from the same area of soil, but it hasn't worked too well. The strawberries are getting too much shade. I've taken some of the runners and planted them in another box. I'm going to have to plant some in some pots at some point so we can take some of them with us when we move. I can't remember what variety they were, just some cheapy I picked up at B&Q, but they are absolutely scrummy. I gave my neighbour some plants and she raves about them too. Has stopped growing spuds and is using the space for the strawberries.Make £2025 in 2025

dd is coming at the weekend, just for the night, working locally the next day. She has always asked if she can have a special antique wooden jewellery box that dd gave me 40 years ago. I held it and decided that it can be let go now, it will go to her dd after her. I wrapped it safely and it is now waiting to be re-homed and I am glad of that0

Slinky - strawberries and raspberries like different conditions. As you found out the strawbs need the sun to ripen whereas raspberries dont so it makes them a very useful fruit to grow.
Small bag of ragging to go to the CS today along with some scarves, hats gloves etc that were surplus to need - I'll also get rid of the broken freezer drawers to the metal bin in the tip while I'm out. Going to check £land for onion sets and seed potatoesSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I stacked my branches headed for the bonfire into a different space yesterday, just in time - more weeds than I though were growing underneath, brambles rooted. There's also what I think is a baby ash tree growing up through the back, underneath the s*dding great rhodedendron
that makes 4 unwanted trees in this garden in the last year, I'm so pleased I got a shift on with this.
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Karmacat - wait till after your s*dding great rhododendron flowers and then you can give it a chop!
Got my seed potatoes today in Wilco's - the ones in £land had spindly sprouts about 4 inches long so I gave them a miss but I did get some red and some white onion setsSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Our neighbour used to have an ash tree, we were forever pulling out seedlings, it took several years after they cut it down before we stopped getting them. It's amazing how big they can get before you suddenly spot the b*ggers! The neighbour behind us has a leylandii hedge and there's some ash rooted in amongst it. The ash grows even faster than the leylandii.Make £2025 in 2025
