    On another thread I read that from a personal experience, that removers don`t do part packing, it is either all or nothing.

    That isn't entirely true. We've had packing services (worth every penny) and will use them again when we move, but you're perfectly entitled to pack a few boxes of say important papers, your granny's jewellery etc.

    Get some quotes for a full packing service, it may well be cheaper than you think. I took a month to pack what a packing service would have done in a day. It drove me nuts and nearly killed me. Never again.

    GQ - thanks for the info about potatoes and potash. I've tried growing them in large tubs but only had a moderate amount from them - TBH not really worth the effort. However - I'm going to try again with potash from the wood burner mixed in and see how they produce! I have had great success with runner beans and climbing beans in large tubs - enough to stock us for the year.
    Back to kondoing - a light jacket, a piece of kit from my boat going to the charity jumble on Easter Monday. 2 pairs of jeans to the rag bag - 2 pairs moved down to 'work jeans' I've managed to feed us all last week from the freezer so need to play tetris so I can get one defrosted.

    Thank you for advice re the packing, good to read all that. I have recently decided that I will aim for a smaller house ie 3 rooms smaller as long as it has a garage, big enough garden and 3 bedrooms, so I can put relatives up when they stay. It could be daunting but I won`t let it be. I just need to keep going room by room

    It has been quite full on MK today, third pass on the kitchen and today I concentrated on bakeware and have been out and re-homed quite a lot. My bakeware cupboard is looking neat and organised now and certainly much emptier. I did my herbs and some other cupboards too. Naturally I have mess everywhere else but will tidy up after my break but am happy with today`s effort

    Ohhhh GQ, I'm really enjoying your allotment chat!!
    I don't have the time, know-how or even inclination to even apply for an allotment but it's something I love the idea of.

    I have a garden that I'm slowly starting to plant things in. I now have a manic rhubarb, two rose bushes, 2 clematis, an agapanthus and a mint plant !!!128512;

    I plan to have a go at blackberries in a hanging basket and runner beans this year. Last years runner beans 1 variety didn't germinate, not one, so I'll stick to the one that did this year!

    I'm having 2 ginormous fir trees chopped down in the next few weeks which will make a huge difference in the amount of sun in the garden !!!128512;!!!128512;

    Does anyone know if you can plant raspberry canes in a pot?
    I love raspberries, but when I try to grow food it doesn't do well.
    I saw gardeners world say it's time to plant canes so thought I might give it a go.
    Next question where's best to buy them??!

    I grow them in pots. Bought mine from A1di and Wi1k0. Just watch for drying out in warm weather... x

    Also raspberries don't need sun to ripen - mine are on a north facing fence and crop very well - advantage too as they don't tend to dry out so quickly.
    Kondoed my grey roots and a box of colour and an empty conditioner tube :)

    Oh dear it looks like I may struggle to get hold of onion sets if you've already planted yours GQ. I'll take a look at the variety card which is tucked above the door in the shed and see if I can track down some of the same as last year's crop was the best we've ever had. Or I'll just have to buy what I can find........
    :) I've always done very well with the £land onion sets, their white onions are Stuttgarter, their reds are Red Baron. I grow both, very reliable performers. Most of the old lags on the plots buy their fruit bushes from Liddly/ £land and their onions from £land. I get a lot of my seeds from Wilko, made out like a bandit last Sept and got many pkts half price.:j

    Broad beans are home-saved variety grown by my late Grandad. They are 4-seed and 6-seed pods, so obvs two types co-mingled. No idea what they are, probably something commonplace, but tasty and reliable performers. The bees just adore bean-blossoms.

    Have a convo with Mum and she'd like to two white hand towels for her downstairs bathroom, so they're going over to her place when I'm next heading that way.

    Still relishing the space on the kitchen counter formerly occupied by the microwave. Space is lush, I like it lots.

    :p Depending on my gammy hip, the levels of precipitation/ frostiness, I may try to squeeze an hour's worth of allotmenteering out of tomorrow's late aft/ early evening. I suspect the mattock will be involved.

    There is also an earth berm up the very back of the lottie, which has a rich crop of nettles and brambles. Typical of allotments that have been gardened badly, is that they're high at one or both sides and/ or at the back. This is caused by the habit of slinging clumps of grass with mucho soil attached up that way, intending to deal with it later, and not dealing with it.

    On Plot1, I had one side which was a bank about 2 ft taller than the rest of the plot. I dug out the couch grass and the greater bellbind and some passer-by (you can see my plot from the road) quipped that was I digging for buried treasure, when he saw me using the mattock, which looks a bit like a pick-ax to the casual glance.

    I grinned and told him no treasure yet but that I had hit the 1950s linoleum level!:rotfl:

    Nothing particularly droll uncovered on Plot2 yet; glass fragments, bits of flower pots, a plastic bottle cap and some white plastic plant labels.

    The earth berm is being tackled a little at a time. Nettle roots don't bother me too much, they're great yellowy strands but not as deep-rooting as brambles or horsetails. I shall remove them and dry them for eventual burning; I suspect there may be some useful minerals in there.

    Once the berm is gone and the area dug thru, I shall level it and use it as a place to keep the Dalek Battalion. I have 3 or 4 (it's a bit of a muddle up there and is confusing). And I will eventually build a fence from old pallets across the top of the plot.

    Thank you greent and silvasava, I might pop in w!lko today after work, good to know they can go on a northwall as that would be perfect.
