KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Hope you don't mind me joining? I recently received the Marie Kondo book for Christmas (OH bought it for me as he knew I wanted it) and I'm looking to do a thorough declutter of my home.
I've already started to get rid of bits and bobs here and there as I see them, I'm currently getting over a cold so I don't have my full energy for a full "KonMari" style declutter just yet. I'll probably start that at the weekend.
I'm trying to sell a few bits and give away a few things in local selling groups and on Shpock, I've also started putting some bits into a charity bag as well.
I've got rid of some old tatty notepads as I have so many to go through it's a bit silly! I've got rid of toiletries that I've had for way too long and I'm making an effort to start using up what I have bottle by bottle e.g. just using one shower gel and using it up instead of alternating between flavours. I need to make more room.
There's a chance I might be moving this year as well, so it'll be so good to declutter once and for all!0 -
I have been ruthless with Christmas presents - mostly I received things I had asked for, or bath/body things that I'll use, but there were inevitably a few items that I knew I won't use. Straight into the charity bag! A fruitcake in a sealed tin looks lovely but I don't need it on my hips, so it's going to be a raffle prize for my friend's next meeting of a local group.
I had a rush of blood to the head yesterday, well that's the only thing I can attribute it to - I cleaned the house top to bottom (not just the bits visitors see!) and even cleaned the oven. I paid for it as I was very tired and stiff later, but today I've been able to sit and knit/watch tv without feeling guilty. Decorations are coming down tomorrow, naturally they will be Kondoed as I put them away and any that are broken or don't spark joy will not be stored. I find it is an automatic process now, and as I have got a quiet week workwise I am looking forward to turning out some cupboards. Did I really just say that? :rotfl:Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
We really cut back on the number of family presents this year. We spent the same, but on fewer things. We've massively decluttered over the last year or so and are moving house soon and don't want to go backwards!"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." So missed catching up and being inspired by this thread but real life has just taken over. I am determined that after many false starts that this year I am going to get myself sorted, a lot needs to change, one thing I that this thread has taught me is to not buy things just for the sake of it. Justin is not my friend.
I going to start out with an initial car boot job lot full of things that have not been used and what i had part sorted from before Christmas. This is so that I can create a work area to start my new journey!Don’t put it down - put it away!

I've mostly cleared out one of the bedrooms I've been unable to get into for over a year due to stored stuff... as my brother's kids no longer spend so much time here now they're both at school, I don't need all the toys and craft stuff. Some of it is headed to the CS, but quite a bit has had to go in the bin. I'm not quite sure what to do with all the open paint/glitter/glue etc as I can't really give it to the CS but it seems a shame to bin it. Then again, I can't keep it cluttering the place up.0

Like others, I'm aiming to bring as little into the house as possible this year and donate or recycle as many unwanted items as I can. Of course, that will involve the constant struggle with two teenagers and a hoarding hubby who hate getting rid of anything. Looks like I'll be busy when they are at school and college and will have to be doubly sneaky when dh is downstairs and busy 😂GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

Hello, joining in this year. Just watched the first episode of Marie Kondo on Netflix which was fab and highly recommend if you can get to see it (we're using the month free trial at the moment). I did the Konmari process in 2017 and having gone through it and living a much less cluttered life, seeing other people's overflowing wardrobes does freak me out now a little bit, I can't believe how much energy I used to take up just dealing with my stuff.0

Your local primary school will probably be grateful for it. Perhaps give them a call and ask.0 -
I tired watching the first episode of the new programme but I couldn't cope with the "Americanism" of it all. Far to overproduced and whiny (kids and parents).
DD2 completes on her flat in the next 4/6 weeks so we will be losing a bedrooms worth of furniture, a kitchen table and chairs, several side tables, a pine and glass cabinet a desk and a mountain of stuff currently in my conservatory that people got her for Christmas (China, cutlery, glasses, Hoover, saucepans etc) I will use the "empty room" afterwards for a complete reorganise and de clutter on a grand scale. I'm aiming for 2019 things for 2019 but only mine and DHs stuff, won't count DD's (however tempting...could probably get 1500 from her stuff alone)
