KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Kitty - how right you are about objects representing our lives. That can be why it's so difficult to part with some things.
Managed to get 3 of the boxes of decorations back up in the loft. Need DH to do the heavy one and the tree today. While I was up there I had a look round to see if there was anything I could get rid of, I do try to kondo something every time I go up there! Found a very large piece of ribbed foam underfelt that was slowly disintegrating so folded up and in the bin. I've still got 3 cartons of my mum's things - China and ornaments that have been there since 2001! There's a lovely Colclough tea set I need to find a good home for and a pretty set of blue petalware that I may keep for myself - must try to get it sorted in the warmer weather as it's B cold up there!
Lots of responses for the icicle lights so thats something else out!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
My business suits are no longer hanging in plain site in my wardrobe, but are tucked away in the attic
My shopping list is growing, but I'm trying to hold off shopping another day.
Working through my cd and tape collection that has not been heard for about 7 years; anything with a scratch or a lilt is thrown out, as are illegal copies. I deserve originals in their nice covers.
There are few snacks in the house, and as soon as these have been eaten I will return to my normal eating schedule as I seem to have gained 2 kgs over christmas. I do NOT want to break the 75kg barrier (I am 5'11").
Making a list for when dds return to school: apply at uni for MA (lots of forms to fill in), do pantry inventory, contact friend who has been diagnosed with oesofagus cancer (she's only 49 and has a husband and 3 children), find architect for renovation of house (possibly find stability engineer first, as house seems to be moving about 1mm per year). Time to kondo these tasks!

That's quite a list to be going on with Seibrie and a few things are going to grow arms and legs - the MA and the architect etc!
I had some good advice from a friend who said if you've only a couple of years left at work before you retire DON'T buy any work clothes 'cos you'll never wear them again - she was so right!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
They are big things Seibrie, good luck!
I have a pile of things ready to bag for the charity shop, 2 cushion covers that were the 'wrong' grey and some leggings that are tight around the middle but baggy on the legs (obviously I'm a bit of a strange shape!) and a trashy christmas novel my neighbour gave me that I've now finished.
There seems to be a few of you not feeling too good, get well soon.0 -
Started to watch the Marie Kondo series on Netflix last night. I find the programme quite deceiving as I know it is filmed over a series of weeks but as it is less than an hour long my brain is registering that a full 'kondoing' can also be achieved in less than an hour!
I don't know where to start.. logic says the christmas decoration as i put them away!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Tibawo,

It's amazing. You declutter like crazy and think everything spare has gone, then you move house and there's a load more to go!!"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0

Christmas decorations are a category on their own, so I don't see why you shouldn't start with those. Did you see the second program, I couldn't believe how much Christmas stuff that lady had! She still managed to part with some of it though.
Definitely make clothes your next category though, because they are relatively easy and give a quick result. I know what you mean about the program making it look much shorter. They must be working on it full time in between MK's visits, I know it took me months to do.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I watched the first 5 episodes of the Marie Kondo show yesterday and I really loved it! I was crying at every episode.:o:D
She looks like a fairy or an angel, I keep expecting her to sprout wings. :rotfl:kittydfw2012 wrote: »Feeling a bit under the weather with a cough and cold but felt justified in having a lazy day and binge watched a few of the Marie Kondo Netflix programmes. I really felt for the lady who had lost her husband and was clearing out his clothes. He was a really big man with big clothes and shoes and you could tell he was a larger than life character who brought a lot of joy to the family and was very sorely missed. It must be heart breaking to lose your life partner and I thought she was very brave to tackle her house and make space for the new chapter in her life. It's funny how our material things represent our lives and we put so much meaning on objects. Sorry, just got all a bit philosophical, time for another cup of tea
I was bawling about 5 minutes in at that episode.0 -
I think im finally coming alive , Well im dressed today , believe me thats an achievement in itself , and im not a person that likes to be in her PJ.s during the day . I dont know what this virus is thats going around , but its not a nice one , Up the green veggies and stay hydrated .
Because ive been living on the sofa , i watched the new Netflix Marie Kondo series in the night , ive seen 3 so far , she has some good ideas but i dont like the programme ( Sorry ) Does anyone fold thier clothes and stack them the way she does? Its certainly a good space saver, I just wondered if they crease? I get most of my motivation from everyone on here ( truly i do ) you are all great . full of good ideas.
i do have a pile of clothes that as soon as im well enough are going to be Kondo'd , Anything saleable is going on a local bidding site to make holiday pennies, Anything else is going in the charity bag . im trying to use up as much as possible on the toiletries , i didnt actually get many this christmas which was a dissapointment , as i like practical gifts , although the 4 slice toaster our son bought us would count i suppose as a practical gift , He said last time he called in home , he made himself some toast , and noticed that half of our 4 slice toaster didnt work . and as he likes 4 slices he bought us a new one for Christmas for when HE has his breakfast , Dont you just love men , ( Id have just put 2 lots in the 2 slice bit ?)0
