KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I'd love to be less emotional but it's the way I'm wired although thankfully as I get older, I am able to be selective about when an emotional response is useful. I agree about the teddies, apart from my OH and pets, my two teddies would be the things I'd grab in a house fire. Weirdly, I was thinking about them this morning and how it amazing it is that they are over 40 years old and in fact, I found them as a little girl waiting to be burned on a bonfire - I rescued them (the fire wasn't lit) and my mum washed them thoroughly and they've been precious to me ever since - who on earth would burn teddy bears? I think people were much less sentimental in the past, maybe they had to be.0

That's a great idea GreyQueen! I think I'll pop one in my hallway ready for the next lot
I've had a really productive evening and have managed to get rid of so many clothing items! 5 pairs of jeans, a few cardigans, a top, a pair of leggings, jewellery - I'm going to take another look in a minute too. My big charity bag is quite full now! Going to drop it off to a local charity shop tomorrow morning to get it out of the way.
I have just ordered 2 cardigans (one grey & one black to match a multitude of outfits) to replace the ones I have chucked as they were getting very bobbly - replacing them was well overdue but I'm glad I got my moneys worth from them. I'm going to buy another pair of jeans from Sains tomorrow as well if I can find the ones I want - they're also to replace a very worn pair that I got from there. I'll buy the same style as I know I will certainly wear them a lot.0 -
A lot of us seem to share the useful habit of having a box or bag ready for donatable items, to be added to as we find things and which gets taken out to the chazzer periodically. It's an easy way to work around it, otherwise there's a tendancy - me included - to put things down somewhere and have them sift back into the general stream of Stuff and disappear.
I'm now going to select a style of bag to house the books which are destined to head outta here to the 'rents. Ideally one which can stand upright somewhere out of the way of everyday life.
I have a couple of those stand up re-cycling bags tucked away, think I’ll put one on the landing. Seeing it will annoy me so I am more likely to pop thinks in it as I pass it just to get it filled. The other could go in the hall behind the door, below the coat rack. Good idea GreyQueen, thanks.0 -
I always save paper bags und reuse them for occasions such as this. They fold away flat, are relatively sturdy, stand up well, and come with handles.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

Horrific ! So glad you rescued them. I sleep with a teddy every night......and I'm 53 next month :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: my childhood one (he'l be 50 in the summer) sits by my bed as he is somewhat larger than i can realistically sleep with. To be fair Floppy really gets used more as a pillow/prop as I'm a front sleeper but I still love him :blushing:
They definitely will never be kondoed.

That's so sweet kitty.
Siebrie, I do the same thing with paper carrier bags.
A full bin bag of clothes have gone to the CS, they were being saved for DS2s GF to take to her Mum in NL, she is involved with a charity in Senegal and was going to take them out on her next visit but unfortunately DS and GF couldn't get them in their luggage this time. I can't have the bag hanging about until I see them and refuse to pay for an extra bag to take over on the airline. They are clothes that are too big after I lost a bit of weight last year, I fear if I don't get a grip on my eating I'll have to go and buy them back!!
I've tidied the cupboard on the landing, all paperwork put in the correct files and the printer uncovered enough to find out the make and model so I can order more ink.0 -
The christmas tree and its ornaments are back in the attic.
DD1 has announced that she wants to become a vegetarian; after I pointed out that she wouldn't be able to eat grandma's pasta sauce anymore, she changed it to flexitarian :rotfl: Husband supports it, dd2 wants to remain an omnivore. I will just plan more veggie meals, with meat just once or twice a week, but good quality and 'animal friendly' (sorry, brain not working at the moment). We seem to be turning to more healthy eating as a family, excellent!Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -

DD2 has now been a vegetarian for just over a year. It was totally her choice and on her night to make tea we happily have something she has made. Saturday still remains our 'buffet' night but veg spring rolls. samosas. pizza etc.
The right hand side of the hob is my veggie cooking side and the left the meat version. It's the only way I can remember not to cross contaminate when stirring things!
I've learnt that beef pot noodle, beef bisto gravy granules are veggie. What the heck?!Don’t put it down - put it away!

DD1 is very vague on what she means exactly, she is 10. We met a Hindu mum and girl over Christmas who are veggie, and at school they did an item on meat; I think at the moment it just sounds interesting, but I will take it
I told her it would mean more beans and eggs, and lots of veg and sauces. She was a bit hesitant but seemed willing, so maybe we can outgrow the picky eating.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
DD2 was 10 too when she started being a vegetarian. Must be an age to start independent decisions! I think my initial reaction was an 'okay'. one of them okays where you're not quite sure where she is heading but you'll go along for the ride!
if she is a nugget fan then try some of the quorn southern fried bites or nuggets they are lush. We don't even get the chicken ones now!Don’t put it down - put it away!
