My dd2 was doing my hair last week, and I took the opportunity to go through my hair accessory drawer (a drawer in a wooden 8-drawered cd cabinet), throw out some, dust it, move some general items to the girls' hair accessory box.

My aim is to empty the cd cabinet and get rid of it. To that purpose, I have moved most of the medicines to the medicine caddy in dh's bedside nightstand, returned the out-of-date meds to the farmacy, and I've started looking for alternative storage places. My bedside nightstand has some space since the last kondo round, but it's not enough. Slowlyslowly I'll get there.

I have also closed a current account with a linked savings account I still had in the Netherlands, and that we were paying 1,55 per month for. Husband used to use it for buying phone credit to call his relatives in Africa, but he has found a cheaper solution.

I now have only 1 current account left in the Netherlands, which I use when we visit my parents, as the Belgian account charges a hefty fee (around EUR2,50) every time I use may debit card abroad. They don't tell you at the time you use it, but they add it all up and slap you with the total fee at the end of the year!

Yesterday at the work printer I accidentally saw a printed email that discussed me getting fired :( in September (huh?). I am still there, so something did not go according to plan :) I am sorry that the new boss wants to kondo me, but not totally unhappy to become a stay-at-home-mum for a while. They will probably fire me just before christmas, as that is the way things are done here. I have made a copy of that email and will call an ex-colleague who was fired last christmas for her lawyer's details. I will take this period to compile my evidence folder and look into the steps to take. Now to get rid of that knot in my stomach....

Oof, Siebrie! That's really unprofessional of whoever printed the email :( Sorry to hear of your discovery x

The positive from it is that you are aware of the possibility - and they are unaware that you are aware? - and you can take whatever steps you need/ are able to in the meantime (advice, compiling evidence if applicable, making sure home finances are work-able if it happens.. etc) which is also good - forewarned is forearmed, and all that...

 Oh, that is LOW! The only thing which is good about it is that forewarned is forearmed. Wishing you every success in gathering your evidenence quietly and hoping that it won't ruin the Christmas season for you. The barstewards!!

  • Really sorry to hear it, but as others have said - you know (and they don't know you know) so you've got an advantage. I don't know what employment law is like where you are, but here they would have to give reasons for firing you, and go through a process. Definitely get some advice.

I have an old "mummy" type one sitting in my airing cupboard, ... Thing is, it needs a wash, as its been used maybe 20 times, and the label specifically says not to wash it
my parents' mummy bags were down. web says 'Place your sleeping bag in the machine and add a technical cleaner. Regular detergent or softener can damage down sleeping bags. Wash your down sleeping bag at 30° or on a delicate cycle' DO NOT dry clean. When i was at college a boy had his dry cleaned, didn't air it properly and never woke up. i cannot start to imagine how the parents coped. And yes, recommend as others giving to a homeless charity if you're not going to use it again.

just got back from Oban. I have unpacked my bag, hung things up / put things in the wash / put my soap bag away. All done in 15 minutes tops. such a nice feeling! DD2 has clearly been home and MKd her room. So more to go to the CS :-) Working tomorrow, but annual leave Friday. Meeting friend at station at 11 so will drop off on the way.

Ouch Siebrie, what a horrible way to find out, but it's better knowing, and now you can be as wise and cunning as serpents. Your kondo friends are with you all the way.

I've had a visitor from the Antipodes, last time she saw me was eight years ago when I was living in a four bedroom house full of books and Stuff. Two downsizes later, everything sparks joy and I've kept the essence of what makes me truly happy. I think it's no coincidence that my general health is improving too. So if you're feeling you'll never get clear, just keep persevering. It can take a few goes through the process, with revisits after that, but it gets easier and quicker every time.
