Good luck Kittie, what's for you won't go past you. Keeping everything crossed for you.

I've now been living in my new home for almost five weeks, and having spent much time and effort in advance doing Kondo round three, it really paid off, as the only items I've since sent on their way were two large bath sheets which were past their best and took forever to dry.

Some of the dual purposing I'd decided on is working well, simple things, e.g. my water jug also waters the plants, herbs in my kitchen window act as a privacy screen, and the round glass topped pedestal table is used for eating meals and playing board games with friends, and is my desk and packing station for sending off parcels.

So, nothing unusual in any of that, but for example I used to have an indoor plant watering can and an outdoor one as well as the water jug. Both the plant waterers have found new homes, so everyone is happy.

In the kitchen, I'm down to one large knife and one small, and one chopping board. I have three wooden spoons: a larger one, and two smaller ones, each one of the latter taken from my parents' kitchens after they died. My father became a good cook in later life after they separated. I love the link with them when I'm stirring away. Some things transcend Kondo.

Kittie.....I am so pleased for you. Are you making an offer today. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. As for the cost renovations etc, I agree with Floss, it is an investment in your future. Making yourself comfortable and cosy, future proofing so you can be happy and secure for years to come.

Watched the Minimalist AD film yesterday. Definitely the way I want to live but not too extreme. I do want to be comfortable and warm, so I will call my version "cosy minimalism". But I really do think streamlining and getting rid of clutter will make life easier.

I am kondoing again as I pack.
  • Ooh Kittie, fingers crossed ... all that planning will pay off. Does this house have a sewing room/studio?

WeeMidgie, I love the idea of using your parents' wooden spoons. It keeps them close, doesn't it. You've made me think about the number of whisks, spatulas, spoons and so on that I have stuffed into a container, time for a mini-Kondo methinks.

Oh Kittie, how exciting! I know you will take a thorough look at the property and its environs to make sure it all suits but my fingers are crossed for this being 'the one'.
Secretly I hope it is near where I live so we'd be neighbours!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Oh Kittie I'm excited for you! Is it close enough that you'd be able to keep your allotment? I might have only had mine for 10 weeks but I'd not be without it now.

A real reverse kondo yesterday as youngest DD moved home. It was a very hot a sticky day and by the time I'd finished reassembling her bed and helped her find her bedding, I was fit for nothing. The spare room is full of stuff for her to sort over the next few days. DD1 has had her mortgage application approved and fingers crossed they can tie everything up with her tenancy on her flat ending in 5 weeks time, but if not, she'll be moving home for a few days/weeks until she can get the keys to her new flat.

    _________

Yes, PWD, it really does. There are other items I still have of theirs, but it's the connection through the love of food and the stirring which is soothing anyway, which as you so aptly say, keeps them close.

I hope GQ is back online soon. My guess about the mystery item on plot 2 is an illegally acquired council grit bin that the previous occupant kept compost or manure in. Or some other piece of council property which would be worth their while to come and collect...
