I'm glad it's gone
No need to apologise for not being specific! I understand that you don't want to be too identifiable. That's why we have usernames and avatars! I'm not actually a blobby green alien :rotfl:

Actually, I think it's a statue of a former town councillor who's been disgraced. GQ could hang bird scarers from its outstretched hands and grow a cucumber up the pedestal .... :rotfl:Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

I started reading that and my comedy dyslexia started to render it grow a cucumber up the (insert rudish word here). Oh dear, my imagination is perpetually twelve years old.
Besides, our city councillors, past and present, back to the middle ages, are/ were all model citizens and I won't hear a word against them. Even if some of them do have statues with pigeons p00-ing on their heads.......... :rotfl:
I am having a brief rest before heading out to the supermarket again. Almost forgot there is a midsummer bbq on the lotties. I need vino collapso and side salads. Plus my bike lights, since I don't know how long we shall be out to play.
I once was at an all-night rave to celebrate midsummer. It was at a Roman fort (excavation site) and it was a very fine party and me and the gang wobbled home on our pushbikes at breakfast time the following day, covered in dust and hungover happily. It was in the 1980s. Cannot remember exactly which midsummer but, hey, if you can remember the 80s, you weren't really there.:rotfl:
I am now much older and less energetic but it still amuses me to think that the Roman army would have been outraged to have the descendants of barbarians dancing around a bonfire in the centre of their fort.:DEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

This thread is great. I have been meaning to start konmari on the whole house as a way of decluttering. We have two new members join our already small 2 bed terrace so I think its time.
Watching youtube inspired and educated me. This thread however will help me keep on track I'm sure as I do not take naturally to de cluttering that i can post my success and failure on here. thanks everybody and well done if you have already started or finished doing your de clutter.0 -
Is it a solstice barbeque (June 21) this year or a Midsummer as in Olde English Quarter day ie June 24?
I was looking up the difference today and I had never previously twigged that 23 June - Midsummer Eve- is the eve of the feast of John the Baptist's birth. The reason it is exactly 6 months before Christmas is that when Mary went to visit Cousin Elizabeth after a visit from Angel Gabriel, her cousin was 6 months gone
Speaking of John the Baptist - unworldly nun became head of a primary school. She used to answer the phone saying "this is the head of St John the Baptist speaking"It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
maryb that is so funny :rotfl:

When I was a child I remember my mother had a book of humorous sayings one of which was " Salome dear, NOT in the fridge"
And "Yes, yes Mrs Lincoln, but apart from that how did you enjoy the play?"
Most of them went over my head but I can now see why she used to laughIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Ooh, what a Kon Maire day!
I loaded the car with a bedside cabinet, a folding table, a dvd tower and 2 dining chairs. Took them to the CS furniture warehouse. [2 more chairs to go on Saturday (couldn't fit them in!)]
While I was there I had a look round for a COD but nothing that suited.
Went to the second floor and immediately noted a set of 4 absolutely fab mahogany dining chairs that were not only the exact shade of my table but were upholstered in the right shade of moss green. Bought the set for £95.
Loaded them into my car 'cos the assistant was busy and I am fairly strong :rotfl:
Unloaded them at home and sorted out dining area so it looks good.
Loaded the remaining 2 'old' dining chairs into the car ready to drop them off.
Phew, 7 unsuitable items released, 4 totally joyful items in :j
I should like to point out that my house is accessed down a little alleyway so the furniture had to be carried to the road and then the 100 metres up the hill to where my car was parked. A good free workout
So the dining table and chairs look lovely. There is less Stuff in the house. Oh, and the joiner came and fitted my sleek floating shelf/drawer and it looks very swish.
Welcome Pendart! Many of us have been releasing Stuff using the Kon Marie method for a while. I have found it THE best way to deal with Stuff. Sorry, can't recommend any Tube, I started due to the original KM thread in 2016 then bought the book. Do let us know what category you start with and do ask if you need inspiration or a little nudge in the right direction!!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
