KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

As fast as i release stuff, more comes in by another door! :rotfl: perils of having a family!:p
mind you, DS, having finished his GCSEs has released ALL of his old books and folders ( keeping a few that he might need for A levels and a couple he has passed to DD for her GCSEs ) - they've either gone for recycling or to the charity shop. :j He's also emptied his wardrobe of clothes he doesn't like/want or don't fit!
DD was inspired by this, and has also released a pile of clothes, however, she has an 'outward bound' type residential school trip next month, so we've kept some for that, and then they can go!
fingers crossed DH is inspired and empties his groaning wardrobe too!
We're also waiting for the joiner to come and show us his plans/do final drawings/actually BUILD the bookshelves and storage units we've planned, and then i can sort out and empty the book cases/shelving units that had stuff put on them 'for the time being' a couple of years ago !!!0 -
Loocyloo, that all sounds like great progress! Well done the juniors, setting a good example!!
The last 2 chairs to go to CS will be going on Tuesday. We were at a party last night and ,er, we are not fit to go into town today. I have tidied and started researching a trip to North Wales so the day hasn't been a write-off
I am getting exasperated about having too many clothes. I fell off the dieting wagon so was stuck between sizes, meaning too many unwearable clothes. I have resolved to start the weight loss camapign again:D I feel good about restoring my resolve. Onwards!!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Under the weather at the moment so no actual kondoing done BUT - DH has identified some bits in the garage that hopefully may produce a pound of two and I've decided that we do not need a 40ltr 3 way cool box any more sine we sold the caravan! When I've a bit more energy they'll go on fleabay or bookface .Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Thank you for this - I've not started tackling it yet.
Home help has now finished and back to managing on my own. Despite low energy levels, have continued to read and delete old emails and worked through more of the reading pile so more paper has gone to recycling.
The place still looks cluttered due to several half done Kondo projects lying around, but these will gradually be finished over the next few weeks. OH has some more of my boxes at his place but I'll not ask for them to be brought over until what I have lying around here has been sorted.
I too am intrigued about GQ's The Item - glad it's gone back to its rightful owners and is no longer taking up space on Plot 2.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Although the house stuff really needs doing, I have decided to carry on with trying to get the garden straight for the rest of the summer and as long into the autumn as weather permits. I am seeing much progress and it really lifts my spirits being outside, trying to manage the energy levels as best I can.
Once winter comes I intend to start again on the house stuff, there will be quite a lot to go. Another pass on the winter clothes as it seems unlikely I will gain any more of my unwanted weight loss in the near future:(. I own a lot of shoes:j, need to reorganise the storage of them and the summer ones when they need to be stored again.
There are 2 large bags of family history paperwork which has been untouched while I have been ill, I think that most of this was really wild goose chases and can be re-cycled, no-one else in the family (siblings and their offspring) are interested and I am not looking to try and make any further contacts with anyone, so that will be good to get sorted.
Meanwhile continue the good work and thank you all for inspiring and amusing me:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
I don't know what GQ's Item is - but she's still offline and will be back asap0

Holibobs for you tomorrow, if I've remembered correctly? Have a lovely time and tell us the edited low/ highlights afterwards, please.
otherwise I'd never finish kondoing.
Utterly spectacular, utterly friendly, and great attitudes - life is so dangerous there, between the avalanches and the falling rocks and the deep snow and the being invaded and colonised etc, they have an attitude of living for today, and loving what they're doingAlthough the house stuff really needs doing, I have decided to carry on with trying to get the garden straight for the rest of the summer and as long into the autumn as weather permits. The family history thing too - some of the next generation are interested, I always think about Martian colonists 200 years from now who'll be the ones who're *really* interestedScanning photos, integrating documents I've found in my mum's possession, and then building up the stories I can tell, giving them back their flesh and blood.
I don't know what GQ's Item is - but she's still offline and will be back asapIf The Item didn't belong to the Council, I'd suspect it of being a shopping trolley :rotfl:

Thanks for keeping us updated Mar. So pleased that your holiday was good Karmacat, not so great having to deal with the brambles though:eek::eek:
So very hot here again today, we have an enormous Silver Birch tree in a corner of our back garden, I have spent a great deal of time beneath it this afternoon, digging out weeds and rescuing a clematis which I thought was dead, but in fact had been vigorously wandering along the ground and into a shrub and some other plants, many yards of it now fastened back to the fence, a few minor war woulds from a very prickly Pyracantha ensued:(The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Welcome back Karmacat! Sounds like a wonderful trip.
The final 2 chairs have gone to CS this afto after work. Total is 4 items in, 9 items out :j (2 large chairs that I had thought would be good once I had restored stayed only 8 weeks before I realised I was not going to undertake that project.
Have confessed to DH that I made a mistake with the 'restoration' idea and had wasted £30 but to be fair he is just pleased that I have now found chairs that are exactly right, and they were a bargain that also contributed to a valued charity.
I am finding it easier to let mistakes go and not beat myself up about them. It is the MK magicI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
I am also spending as much time as possible outside, and with a mainly kondoed house, I can
The hot dry weather makes for crazy harvesting: the cherries have finished, as have the redcurrants. The gooseberriesare on the point of turning and are set for harvesting on Wednesday (my day off); the strawberries are mainly small and ripe, but many have not developed. The courgettes and pumpkin are not taking off, or only very slowly.
