KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I bought a red and grey jacket a while ago but it is collarless and have been searching for just the right scarf shades of black and grey but not red ( would match my face otherwise). Found just the exact thing at a coffee morning this morning for 50p. Sparking joy.
I am another who fills charity bags when they come through the door as I don't drive and not fit to walk to my local charity shops. Have gone down 2 sizes been ill not dieting so when I dug out the summer clothes only one linen jacket still fit and my trousers and blouses all far too big. I could take them all in but they are a few years old so they are on there way and I will have a look around for joyful replacements.
Enjoying this sunshine and watching the daffs and tulips coming out in the garden.
Been thinking of downsizing but only for a moment well maybe two. Garden is a double plot and far far too big. Went to see a local show house and before KM I would have said it was lovely but having kondoed my house contents my house looks better so no show houses for me. Came home and looked at my house and wandered round the garden and decided I was staying for another 5 years anyway. Maybe if I could take my apple trees with me.0 -
Today my friend who's taking my double bed came to help me dismantle it. I'm sleeping in a single bed now, and very comfortable it is too. I've left a phone message with the local hospice's furniture shop re collecting the other items which I won't need any more.
All my towels and spare bed linen now fit neatly in the two large drawers in the single bed. My clothes all fit in a chest of drawers and a fitted wardrobe, same rail length as in the new flat. Kitchen stuff has been weeded out and will easily fit at the other end.
The only pinch point is reducing what I currently have in the under stairs cupboard here. No stairs at the other end, so no equivalent cupboard space! Just a much smaller storage cupboard in the hall. I'll spend a bit of time tomorrow thinking about what's really going. There's still plenty of time to work it out.0 -
Went to a charity event yesterday, so collected up 4 things to donate to the tombola (harder than it used to be, as there's not so much random/ unwanted things hanging around - so took spare toiletries, wine and an unwanted (new with tags) gift. KM'd lots of money (all in aid of a good cause) and won 3 raffle prizes - donated 1 straight to a friend who loved it and kept the other 2 (smellies) Also won lots on the tombola - donated some straight back and brought some home - some are consumables (sweets, drinks and toiletries) and are fine (although unwanted toiletries from the sets have already been weeded out and bagged up to pass on), some have gone into the CS bag, 1 has been given to a relative (with instructions to pass onto CS when they're done) and 1 small toy stayed here for DS3. Overall, not too bad.... I'll take it as a win
Was also a lovely couple of hours spent catching up with people, so that was another win

On Day 3 of incessant rain here (the caliber varies slightly but it justs keeps on coming down).
A spell of very light drizzle/ heavy mist lured me out onto the allotment but, once I'd got there, it started persisting down. I decided to rootle for the beetroot seeds which I was sure I had in the shed and chuck them in the ground.
It seems I don't have beetroot but I do have an awful lot of very old date-expired seeds. As in 15-years-or-so expired. I was given these, already expired, a decade ago and some were planted, but the rest were shuffled around in shoeboxes in the depths of the shed and had sort-of disappeared.
I will be getting rid of them and recycling the paper packets, but not today. Have decided to make a clean-sweep and buy some beet seed from Wilko this aft and sow it later in the week - rumour has it that rain is due to cease on Thursday!
As it's bliddy chilly, I shall confine myself to the homestead and catch up with the shredding pile and some personal admin. Laundry and ironing all caught up and a roast chicken planned for supper.
Hope everyone's having a good day. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Miserable here too GQ. I tied up a couple of roses and put the recycling out, and that was enough! Fire is lit and I've been doing admin and laundry... I quite fancy a nap, although some exercise would be good, so I might work up the energy to put on my arctic gear - there's a biting wind - and wander over to the bottle bank. I should be going for a run, but really, really don't like the idea.0

I've been sorting out the small crate which I chuck papery stuff into (hasn't been dealt with for about three months
) and picked out things which don't need to be shredded (i.e. grocery receipts going into the communal recycling bins here at the flats) and things which do, like things with personal data on them.
I also made a stack of paper with one good side to use for note-taking during my job (which go into confidential shredding at the end of each shift, I hate using proper (i.e. council-tax-payer-paid-for) note-pads for this work, the waste of resources offends me on many levels.
Once I'd filletted the pile, whilst watching Happy & Authentic's minimalism you tubes (engaging, if you haven't seen them) I had a small amount of shredding, emptied the shredder, dusted it out and replaced it in its hiding place behind the sofa. Quick vacuum to pick up the strays and will be heading out later on to do some errands, buy some seeds and hit up Mini Tosspots at YS time.
Re paper, I'm trying to have better habits than putting stuff into the crate, but there will be some which I will retain until there's enough to be worth getting the shredder out.
My shredder is a skinny model but there isn't really anywhere to keep it set up, so I no longer shred-as-I-go. Oh, and the recycling streams in this city handle shreddings as long as they're loose in the bins, which is great.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

That's odd GQ, ours insist that paper shreddings need to be put out in cardboard boxes that you've written 'Shredded Paper' on, otherwise they just get blown around the recycling centre.Make £2025 in 2025

I have enough room for two wastepaper baskets under the desk in the hall where I open the post so plastic wrappings go in one, non confidential paper in the other and I have a shoebox where I put the confidential stuff. Often it's enough just to tear off the corner with your name and address. I burn the confidential stuff every now and then because I CBA to take the staples out to shred it. That and I lurve bonfires. Ash goes on the allotment. This has saved me a lot of time being able to sort as I openIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Our shreddings have to go out in the mixed recycling boxes in clear plastic bags.... (rolls eyes)

Not all facilities are the same, the ones in this county have changed over time, in such ways that mean different materials can be taken or existing materials are handled differently.
I have out-and-out indicated I'd love to tour the recycling plant but such treats seem to be reserved for kiddos on school trips - bah!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
