I'm the only one who eats it in our house, so freezing would be ideal, to save any waste
I've got a bit in mine which my FIL gave me and I didn't eat, I'm the only one who eats it here too
2 of the apples are gone, 5 to go.... I had them chopped with other fruit, as I've been using up frozen soup for lunch and not done any cooking which they could go in, but I'll try and be more adventurous with the others!
I'm going to salvage a wrinkled sweet potato and parsnip which I missed in my back fridge and have them mashed for tea - bit of chopped apple might not come amiss in that, maybe with a bit of mustard0 -
Parsnip and apple go well together. I sometimes use them to make soup and it!!!8217;s delicious.0

Another one here who is the only one who eats beetroot!! What I do is slice it up and put it in a jar with some water. I actually think it's an old pickled beetroot jar that I use!! It seems to last a lot longer than when I used to put it in a tub.
Today I used up 3 bananas, one from the freezer and two on the turn! Made 2 banana cakes, 1 for home and 1 for work. Marg and cinnamon used up too, so will need to replace these as I always use them. Also used up a sorry looking spring onion in a fried egg sandwich, yum!!Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £161.29 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
Parsnip and apple soup is definitely a favourite of mine Great way to use up the odd forgotten wrinkly apple as well I know its supposed to be a bramley but I use any apple that's sitting aroud looking sad and forgotten
today's lunch will be last of the pate brought home from my holiday with crackers and some fruit.
I shall have a delve in my freezer for tonights dinner I have sweetheart cabbage in the fridge and some jersey royal potatoes so I will find something to go with that probably a chicken quarter as I am sure there is one in there, add some steamed carrot and Robert your uncle, a meal without going shopping
I have some strawberry yogurt in the fridge which will do for pud (I like to crunch up some bran flakes to add a bit of bite to it,no different than a Mueller corner, but half the priceSo thats tonights meal sorted
No shopping to get this week as everything I got when I cam home from my holiday plus the other odds and ends brought home will more than sort me out this week.
I am using up stuff as much as I can at the moment as I hope to run down the freezer and defrost it at some point .Its amazing how much stuff is in there I swear it multiplies at times
Have a good and use-it-up day chums

I discovered lurkers in the fridge yesterday and roasted some leftover cooked potatoes with tomatoes, wrinkly mushrooms and and chunks of a sprouting onion with two very small lamb steaks. I served them with leftover salad instead of cooking the fresh veg I'd prepared to go with the lamb. I laid the steaks on top of the veggies and although the lamb was very lean it still provided enough fat for me not to need to add oil to the roasting pan. Tasted good and I will have the fresh potatoes and veg I prepped but didn't use today with the sausages I was going to eke the lamb out with. I've told MrC we're cutting down on meat but he didn't seem to object yesterday !!!128522;0

A bit like adding small or brken pasta to soup, always makes it more filling.0

Hi guys
I hope you don!!!8217;t mind me joining in. I make lettuce, pea and mint soup but you can add anything green (or any leftover veg really ) never two soups the same. Basically it!!!8217;s a stock cube, a few dried herbs, your leftover salad veg, or tops of spring onions, outside of cabbage, brocolli, cauliflower, etc a few frozen peas and when it!!!8217;s cooked and blended a spoonful of mint sauce. Also Brussels sprouts, potato and leftover veg again with herbs and a stock cube ( roast dinner soup) works well.
I put left overs in little plastic tubs in the freezer then just throw in to the slow cooker as needed.

:hello: cuddlymarm, welcome to the LFHW band.
I'm currently concentrating on using up things from the freezer too. I'm lucky to have a frost-free model so it doesn't need defrosting BUT it's stuffed full and it seems silly to keep on buying yet more stuff.
To that end, I'm first of all using things that will make just one meal in order to make room further down the line for batch cooking. So tonight we're having ys haddock fillets baked in buttered foil parcels, cauliflower cheese and lo new potatoes diced up, tossed in a little oil and sprinkled with herbs. All prepped and ready to go in the oven and utilising all the space (it's only a small oven).
A fair few fridge lurkers have gone over the past few days too - a pork pie, a bit of tuna mayo (on crackers), a small bowl of strawberries, the last few grapes, 2 fruit & jelly pots, a few mushrooms, 1/4 red pepper and 1/2 apple. Oh, and a piece of banana loaf and 2 granola bars. Where do all these bits come from?Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
Today's challenge is mushrooms which have turned a bit wrinkly while I've been busy using up other stuff - I might defrost some white fish and have it with rice (I've got a mountain of that too!!) and fry the mushrooms with it0

last nights chicken new potatoes and steamed cabbage with carrots was rather nice. I bought a sweetheart cabbage when I came home last week and wrapped in foil I just cut a chunk off at a time and shred it up.I stuck some caramelised red onion chutney on top and a dash of sweet chilli sauce to liven it up and it was delicious with the meal last night.
Tonight's dinner is a cottage pie from the freezer, which I will probably have with some more of the cabbage and some garden peas.Yogurts all gone but I have a melon in the fridge which once sliced up will do for pudding with a diced apple. Its not a very big one but it will do me for at least three nights dessert.Tonight's with apple tomorrow with a diced banana and Saturday lunchtime with an orange I am out Saturday night at a charity quiz night so will eat my main meal at lunchtime.
I am determined to reduce the stuff in the freezer before I go away in August so every main bit of my meals will hopefully come from there.
It really is astonishing what you find when you root around the freezer but its money just sitting there so my goal for the next few weeks is to reduce it considerably
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing
