Welcome back zafiro, glad to hear your "mend" went well and that you're enjoying life again.Got some mushrooms on the verge of going nasty. Will see what I can concoct tonight
I used up two very wrinkly ones yesterday in an omelette for breakfast. Oh, and a little bit of grated cheese fell in there too!
Last night's dinner was corned beef hash from the freezer and there was a little bit left, but not enough for two. I also had some lo hm chunky veg soup in the fridge so this morning I bunged both in the blender and added a generous splash of Hendersons Relish. It's thick, brown and very tasty so now we have a "free" soup for tomorrow lunchtime.
Tonight we're having haddock fishcakes with hm potato wedges; as the oven will be on I'm also making a pizza using a ys base spread with tomato puree. For the topping I have grated pepper cheese, cherry tomatoes and pepperami. I'll freeze what's left of the jar of tomato puree in an ice cube tray - one teaspoon per hole - so no waste there.Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
Hi fellow LFHWrs,
Used up the lo puff pastry to ‘create’ a pizza - last red onion, wrinkly red pepper, clove of garlic, de-seeded green chilli, chicken gravy paste, tomato pur!e, black olives, 3 portobello mushrooms, capers, sun dried tomatoes, silverskin onions, salami slices & Brie - only seasoning was a bit of salt. It was absolutely scrumptious :drool: . My DH had no ‘observations’ to make as this time there was just the right amount of pastry with just the right amount of topping :j (last time not enough pastry which made the pizza tasty but too rich) My pizzas are always roughly rectangular so there is one piece left for DH for lunch tomorrow.
I have parboiled the last of the potatoes (they were starting to shoot) ready to be saut!ed tomorrow with fried eggs. Friday will be the last of the mackerel fillets from the freezer & lots of roasted vegetables probably no carbs.
Not much left in the freezer - box of fishfingers, 500g diced beef (maybe a pie with hm pastry?) mini scallops, some sausages (maybe my first toad in the hole?)
Need to start using some of the tins even though nothing is ood
Sorry to have bored you all

I've never managed toad, I find its always soggy in the middle, maybe I use too much batter mixture. I can make giant yorks tho so cook sausages and then pop them in after to serve.0 -
Hi just registered I am in my late 60's now retired as a chef after 50 years of working in some great restaurants in France / Italy and uk have thought of starting a blog about food and how to get the most out of it for a long time now but never got round to it. I have so many tips that I take as normal and think every one knows that it is hard to decided what is imparting knowledge and being condescending. In all my years that I ran my own restaurants (25y) I can honestly say I might have thrown out food on a handful of times at home never no food waste at all never counted how much I spend on food but its not a lot . When you hear people talk about saving it always sounds penny pinching but I can say hand on heart that we eat very well probably to well and before you say yes but your a chef anyone can do it . So if there is something you want to ask ask away.0

Hi "No waste". I'd love to hear your tips, I guess to make a restaurant kitchen profitable you can't waste much! I know there are a lot of food blogs out there but you could have a go! Its nice to have a creative outlet. I love writing my blog (not just food) although I'm never going to be one of those people who makes any money from it!
I've been well a bit the last few weeks coz I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed with things to do! We've not wasted much food though! My habit of freezing the remains of loaves that aren't getting used has paid off. I'd saved enough for a bread pudding, which I made yesterday. Had some for pudding with custard (nom).
I've got loads of peppers at the moment so I might have to roast or freeze them before they start to look unhappy!
Well done to everyone who's still LFHWing regularly!

I'd love to hear your food tips, chef paolo.
I had a big bunch of parsley and i knew I couldn't use it all. I made soup with it, adding a carrot, an onion and a potato, with a pint of veg stock from a stock gel. When I liquidised it, it turned out a strange khaki colour, and was a bit bland, but I brisked it up with a bit of Worcester sauce.
It was actually very tasty, and made a light lunch for 3 of us!!0 -
From the freezer a couple of sausages and some fine green beans, carrots and mashed potato for tonights dinner. Yogurt and chopped friut for pudding, thats dinner sorted for tonight
I have some whipping cream to use up this week so I shall look into things I can do with it
I was going to whip it all up but have been so busy that I've not had a chance I feel a big pot of coffee coming on this morning which will help shift some of it

About 250 grams of potato, carrot and swede mash left overs will hopefully soon turned into fishcakes to have with a mixed salad for tonight's meal, I have cooked some cod fillets from the freezer (thought using salmon would make it a bit too orange:eek:)
May turn out a bit of a hodgepodge, but it will not be wasted:rotfl:
There is some GF Blueberry sponge left for pud if OH feels the need, and I expect he will:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
