Hipsters abound in Hackney and they love sourdough toast with smashed avocado:DIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

morning all, just done my menu for the week and no shopping needed at all this week.
I went to a quiz last night and won a box of biscuits !! not what I needed as I am abstaining from biscuits for Lent ,so they will be donated to the local food bank trolly in the SM when I go next week. BBF date is Jan 2019 so well in date for the food police:)
Just waiting for DD and her ma-in-law to arrive as they are coming for coffee and a natter this morning. Dinner at youngest DDs later so no cooking required today,I have a crumble I made yesterday to t`ke with me as my contribution.
Hope everyone is all OK and the baking course sounds really interesting
Cheers chums

Came back from holiday Friday and night and disaster! my fridge/freezer had packed up so 3 bags of wasted food!
Wasn't feeling well and really didn't fancy traipsing round Mr Ts so did an on line order. Just bought enough stuff to cover the food needed for this weeks menu plan which I'd done prior to holiday. Of course a lot of the stuff was for more than one meal. There is probably the basis for meals for the next 2-3 weeks. The rest of the freezer will get filled with HM ready meals - I always make meals as 4 portions even though there's only the 2 of us.
Looking on the bright side at least the freezer been defrosted now!
It turned out there wasn't a problem with the f/f but the socket! So just needed to more the plug to a different socket.

Oh what a shame Denise! You're right, it's a drastic way to get the freezer defrostedweaving through the chaos...0

Yorkslass I went on a baking course last year and it was inspirational. I can now bake bread that doesn't turn out like bricks!! The course was about sourdough but the actual baking is the same for all loaves
Thanks maryb, I'll bear this in mind if/when my BM goes on the blink!ma-ri-ella wrote: »Got a pork/sage sausage in freezer friend has suggested burgers but not sure how to go about doing that - defrost and flatten down lol#
Yep, that's the way to do it! :rotfl:When I make sausage rolls I don't bother buying sausage meat especially, but just buy normal sausages and squeeze the meat out of the skins.Cut out the bad bit, use the good bits is pretty much my solution for all food.
I always do this with potatoes, fruit, cheese etc and I haven't poisoned anyone (yet).
Oh Denise, that's not what you needed to come back home to.Glad it was just the socket though and not the F/F.
I've set myself a challenge for March and will be trying to make 4 weeks cash spread out over 5 weeks. Should be do-able as there's plenty in the freezer, fridge and cupboards, with only 6 items on the shopping list so far - and none of them is urgent.
Had the SC out yesterday and made a large batch of corned beef hash, enough for dinner today with 1 - maybe 2 - hm ready meals for the freezer. I had some rashers of bacon that needed using up (had already been frozen) so half went into a from-the-freezer tomato based sauce that we had with pasta on Thursday and I cooked the other half for BLT sandwiches this lunchtime. Imy freezer.

May have been posted before but I haven't seen it...
Sliced bread going out of date? Going hard ect?
slick it on the radiator to fully dry it, or in the oven on a very low setting with the door open.
You can then stick it in a blender or use a hand blender to turn it into bread crumbs for stuffing or coating chicken and fish. It can be stored in the freezer in bags or tubs. As long as it was fully dried before freezing, it is good for immediate use out of the freezer.0 -

Don't take any notice of dates in our house.
Just pick the green bits off before toasting.
As we don't eat a lot of bread, my loaves go in the freezer anyway.0 -
YorkLass I'd have been really annoyed if it had been the F/F as it's less than a year old! Don't know what I'd do without it. Often wonder how we used to manage. When I first got married we didn't even have a fridge yet alone a freezer so I obviously did manage.
