I don't know if it's any good with gooseberries but I always use a big dollop of honey in stewed apples or fruit if I am stewing /poaching, doesn't have to be fancy stuff a basic soft honey from any supermarket will do it seems to be sweeter than sugar and I use far less, or I suppose you could try golden syrup, pretty concentrated sweetness in that0

Hey all - good news. I can actually see what is in the freezers :T
And.. a favourite meal for tonight - all the left over curries from takeaways and meals out. no cooking and lots of space freed up.
I think i shall get a small bottle of gin and try a gooseberry gin recipe. I think i will also bake a cake with some.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Sounds like an amazing meal coming up tonight! Can I join you?0

Have used up the last of the carrots to make a carrot & lentil soup for lunch. Love soups at this time of year. Think there may even be a portion or two left over to freeze:money:.

ma-ri-ella - I use a recipe for Bean goulash from a girl called jack website - now cooking on a bootstrap.
You can use any beans to make it, I usually use a tin of mixed beans but if irc she uses kidney beans & baked beans with the tomato juice washed off! You need to use some paprika in order to make it a goulash. I cook this quite regularly as the only fresh stuff you need is an onion & some garlic. It's also something which is useful if you go camping or on a self catering holiday and can take stuff with you.0 -

I used up the last of the stored giant courgettes today, making a fermented pickle with ginger and lemon. I used the spiralizer to make short shrift of the courgette and it was the only way I could think of using it up before it moulds. I had literally hundreds of courgettes this summer and have dehydrated most of them, used in curries, etc. and next year I will try courgette bread. If only they were available for a longer period in much smaller quantities, but it is possible to go off them!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Good morning chums and although a bit nippy the sun is struggling out I am having a sort out of the freezer today in the hope of reducing some of the stuff in there so its freezer roulette for dinner tonight as I have some stuff in there that's not labelled !!! I know there is some sweet shortcrust pastry odds and ends in there from left over bits and I have some apples that need using up so once defrosted it will probably be rolled out and made into a pie to take to my DDs tomorrow as my contribution towards dinner
I am hoping there is still a bit of steak somewhere in the depths as I know there is asparagus in there and I really have a yen for a nice bit of them both for tonight's meal. I found a packet of strawberry whip in the cupboard so that will be pudding
No shopping this month so far ,fingers crossed I will be able to use more of the food stocks up I still have about a third of my large cauli left in the fridge wrapped in foil so that will hopefully be used up today as well
