Thanks all for the replies about the (forgotten) wine. It seems to be a question of "nothing ventured, nothing gained".
I'll do the sniff & taste test and then decide whether to use or not. The first challenge though will be to get the corks out of the bottles! :rotfl:
Actually, bless him, he's cooking our dins tonight, as my lupus has been giving me a hard time today.:A
Omelette With Everything as he calls it. Some of the frozen pineapple chunks (pineapples 2 for £1 on the F&V market recently) and the last remaining large tomato (big bowl of those for £1 also) will be going into it. Among other things. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I decided on an open flan which was a COMPLETE SUCCESS according to my DH:j
Preheated oven to 200C. Rolled out the lo puff pastry very thinly on foil & placed foil & pastry on a baking tray. Fried couple of sliced shallots, a sliced mushroom & last of the slices of salami chopped. Smeared the last of the onion gravy paste over the pastry & some tomato pur!e then added the fried bits, pitted black olives - halved, an ood (7th Jan) goats cheese - broken up scattered over the top, half a thinly sliced tomato & seasoned with oregano, paprika, salt & pepper. Used lo sliced red pepper to surround the filling then folded over the edges of the pastry & brushed with milk. About 30 mins in the oven & voila - a full tummy & more leftovers used up.
Thanks again Hev:T

So
Well done :T Sounds yummy 😋 It definately works for me as I often forget what is in the store cupboards and fridge/freezer
Today I tackled the salad/veg draw in the fridge to try and use up anything about to go past it's best. So far broccoli soup made and frozen in three x 2 portion containers, I'll add some Stilton once it's being reheated. A pasta bake using up the last of my dunkin soup, tomato and bean mixture (really yummy) black olives, a few mushrooms and some leftover ham. This did us for two days with a generous helping of salad bits as a side. Dd gave me some more plums as they came in her box and she is allergic to them sadly:( so another crumble. I have dried fruit, all bran and sugar soaking overnight in milk so I can make a fruit bran loaf in the morning. Still to make that lentil dhal though. Some people are so poor all they have is money

Well, I made a good start.
There was some left over mash from dinner, less than 1 portion. Usually I would have put it in the fridge with the good intention of using it but inevitably it would be binned after a couple of days.
This time I used it together with the remaining broccoli to make some soup, which will do nicely for lunch today. I even had a minuscule bit of ham left over to add.
Tonight will start with stock taking one of the kitchen cupboards and see if what I can use up for dinner, I know there is plenty of pasta and rice but not yet sure what we fancy tonight.0 -
Morning all - been a bit AWOL but not cos i haven't been using things up.
You may (or may not) remember that i tried to make pumpkin soup with the halloween pumpkin? it was horrid and tasted like chicken stock. I initially made some into a thick soup using the original as base and I froze the remainder. Yesterday I made up another batch using some squash that a friend had given me for her garden with the idea of having baked squash - well the baked squash never happened but i froze them and souped them yesterday. So another 6 portions of thick soup made, much tastier than first time round and nothing was wasted :T
I had bought some packs of ham and turkey for my DS last week but he went back to uni earlier than expected so i am trying to eat them up. i am not that keen on cooked meats like that, but I won't waste them....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

wrap in cling film and freeze if you can't manage to eat it all up.Then use it shredded in pasta recipes
I bought some delicious sliced ham when I was on holiday in Staffordshire a couple of years ago, and as I bought it on the day I came home from the local farmers market it was gorgeous .I bought about 2 lbs and wrapped slices in batches of three in film, and was eating it for ages in portions, with poached egg on top or with chips and salad and any odd bits I used in pasta dishes with a cheese sauce.
Using the last of my leek and tattie soup for lunch with some chilli flavoured rice cakes and yogurt for aftersI have got a portion of veggie curry out of the freezer for dinner tonight and will have that with rice and a small y/s naan bread from the freezer as well.
Frugally onwards chums

Bought loads of bargain veggies in the street market. So it's stir fry chicken today and at least two days of veg and lentil shepherds pie. THen there's still enough for something with Mediterranean veg at the weekend.0

Turkey and ham pie?
Saute some leeks with a bit of thyme until soft, add a tablespoon of flour, add stock , cook till thickened, you don't want it too sloppy. Layer up in a pie dish with the turkey and ham.0 -
Unbelievably, given that i am the 'freeze it' queen, i didn't think of freezing it
Will turkey and ham pie work with fairly thin slices?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Course it will.
I always call it leek and turkey pie
The leeks are the base, I add whatever I have lying around , left over roast chicken and stuffing and even chopped up left over pigs in blankets. If I have creme fresh or cream lurking I add a dollop of that as well, makes left overs really posh

I had the remains of a veggie sausage casserole last night with half a leftover flat bread. I'd been putting off eating it as I just didn't fancy it but yesterday I gave myself a good talking to and used it up. It was very tasty and so I was able to tell myself 'Told you so!' as well. :-)
Today's lunch was beetroot risotto from the freezer which was lovely. I'm planning to finish off the fridge bottom soup I made at the weekend tonight for tea with some hm bread (from the freezer - I freeze any we don't use at the weekend to keep it fresh).
Feeling good at the lack of waste so far although I will have to tackle a few wrinkly apples that have hidden at the back of the fridge at the weekend. I think a crumble may be in order. It's that kind of weather isn't it?0
