Cooking for one (Mark Three)

That doesn't seem like a lot of calories PN over the last two days to keep a girl going - might mean another Toby gut buster is due to address the deficit.;):)
Looking on the Mr T site, this is the beast - and this says 398/pack.

Definitely filling and tasty ... and, for anybody on a diet who hates lettuce it should go on their list of food to tuck into.0 -
PN Tbh calorie wise that seems okay in the context of a RM and that folk will have more meals apart from that plus F&V/snacks and drinks but yep pretty lo-cal by itself as a meal. Still one those plus a few scones does not a tummy fill for a day, so okay in the short term but a "fill up" definitely sounds justified;):)0

I agree re modern SCs Caronc my more modern one which was gifted cooks different than my old 30 year one did. It's probably too big for one so may be regifted as my sister broke the pot in hers. My old one was a small one and I found it sometimes too small to batch cook. I tend to use my pressure cooker now instead but I think certain things taste better in the oven  although you have reminded me that it's been a while since I made lamb with pearl barley
It was a enjoyable family dinner last night, food turned out well, flat pack furniture was put together and my youngest nephew won the game (which was assumed before we started ) and his lordship spent time with the only other person whose lap he sits on. Both nephews left with the LO key lime pie and the threat that it would be the last time if I didn't get the containers back
Lunch today was not the salmon as planned I'm afraid I pottered and picked so a kit kat, some oat biscuits, crisps and a banana. Dinner was betterLOs from yesterday beef, noodles and stir fry veg. I wasn't totally lazy food wise today I used some lurking coconut milk from the freezer and LO green Thai paste to make a couple of portions of chicken laksa for lunches.

No Toby today - it's raining!
Because it's raining I'd be battling with huge build ups of traffic, in the rain, driving round looking at roads (without specific house addresses to stare at), so it's not a good day for area familiarisation/consideration so a Toby would be a "waste" as I'd not be able to get in the car afterwards and cruise about in dry weather/comfort... so it'd not be a pleasure that was enjoyed the whole day.
I might just drag myself out to a local shop and buy a loaf later... but it's a horrible weather day overall, so one of those best spent on short trips, if at all.0 -
Its chucking it down here too. Things I need to pop out to the local shops to sort as well but it will have to wait an hour or two I suppose.
@PN although not ideal by any way for your purpose, if you do feel the immediate need to 'examine the area' there's always Google Street View, although personally I use that 'instant street view' one instead as it works better for me (slower connection) , only usual downside is they are sometimes out of dateWhen I looked at one view here a few months ago they showed one car I'd sold about 6 years ago! Another view showed a slightly more recent one but again it was at least 3 years out.

Another one here with drizzle & soggy morning, good job I did the garden bits yesterday
Yesterday's soda bread turned out to be ideal with the the HM soup, I've got enough of both LO to rinse & repeat today
PN, sometimes Mark's food can be reasonably priced especially if YS or on offer. Bit like W8rose in that respect, the facts sometimes override the perception.
For instance Marks sometimes have 3 for £X type of RMs, and they are very good, and I've found YS cheese very much reduced.
Sometimes the poshness works in your favour if, like me, you don't care too much about image
Iceland have RM at £1, new range, I tried one, OK for the price it's what you'd expect but tasty enough for a quid. And I think I've mentioned their YS is real YS, normally half of full price
Caron, agreed on the bland all tasting same from a SC but the convenience is it's main asset IMO. Mine is about right size, gives 3 decent portions with space for dumplings if required
Weighs a ton so lugging it out from lower cupboard means I have to think long & hard about using it.
Somewhere at the very back is a pressure cooker, now beyond my bendy reach or I'd be using that:(
But maybe for the best, I used to make yummy bacon & onion suet roly poly in there:o
Porridge with chopped pear & apple, small ones, plus use up L's yoghurt for breakfast
Made a fresh batch of yoghurt using my new starter, see how that goes. I used a pot of my runny yoghurt in lieu of buttermilk in the soda bread, so not wasted
Lunch, I think soda bread + cheese is very likelyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Good morning everyone,
Sounds like a lovely evening with your family Brambling and that a "pottering" day was well deserved.:)
Shame you're not getting your "Toby" PN:(
I think that as with most things SC have their place and work well for some things and not others. I was pretty pleased with the results from the baby SC but cetain things I find do taste much better cooked on the stove/baked. I will use it again but will keep a careful eye on how long it's on for, yesterday it pretty much cooked the stew in the same time a low gas ring or oven would have:eek:. The stew made two decent portions and I'll freeze the spare today for another time.
Very windy and damp here today, it was decidedly cold when I went out and my wooly hat had it's first airing of the season. The surgery waiting room was full of people shedding various layers when I arrived but the clinic was running to time and I was in, jabbed and out in under 10 minutes. I'm bushed now as I decided to walk back home as it was dryish and it's not far but it was hard going in the wind and my balance is now protesting. Thankfully apart from venturing to the bottom of the garden to retrieve my food waste caddy once it's emptied is as far as I need to go for the rest of today.:)
I'm using up the last of the wraps today which I'll have with brie and salad for lunch. Assuming they arrive in my order it's a smoked haddock fishcake with the remaining pea & broccoli puree, green beans and oven chips.0 -
I've eaten loads of nice stuff over the weekend as well as loads of junk food and lots of booze! I stepped on the scale and haven't gained any weight so it's probably that I did lots of walking so it balanced out!;)
I've had toast and marg.
I fancy a potato curry but don't have any spuds. I am getting shopping delivered tomorrow so i don't want to buy lots of ingredients from the shop. I might just buy a tin of potatoes and an onion and make do with whatever frozen veg I can add as I have tikka powder and passata here too.0 -
@PN although not ideal by any way for your purpose, if you do feel the immediate need to 'examine the area' there's always Google Street View
It's also slow/jerky and faffy to move far on streetview. I just use it to nail the door number, then go into aerial to see what's alongside, behind, around and close by.
If I see a place for sale on RM and "investigate it" it's 10 minutes of views and checks and aerial/streetviews before I even start to look at what the inside's likeNo point getting excited about a nice looking interior if the area/alongside/over the road's not up to scratch.

I (a bit bregrudgingly) did a small L1dl run earlier. I was trying to think of a few staples, some "easy to grab" food and "what to eat now/today".
I started with a loaf and marg. I go some cooked cocktail sausages, box of eggs, 4 cans of beans... then chips and fish fingers. Also got brown sauce, vinegar and foil. And some chocolate covered raisins.
I had a sausage sandwich once I got home... but I can at least snack on toast now and push the boat out with a cooked breakfast, f/finger toastie or chips & beans0
