  • A Toby carvery means enough in doggy bag, usually roasties, to have for lunch next day. Yay. Am laid up with bad back and lovely neighbour brought me hm chickpea curry and dumplings round yesterday so had half for lunch yesterday and will have again today. Friend came last night and I bought us a Jamaican take-away so that was yesterday dealt with - have managed to get a chicken breast out of freezer and have portion l/o b/nut squash/potato mash to go with it, plenty of veg in freezer. Have had to place an online order as I just cannot walk as far as the car let alone carry bags in from car and they will not let the porters from Asda come home with me !!!!!!!!

Hmm. Typed a reply then lost it (my fault)

Late "hello / morning" , I'll not address everyone individually so sorry if I miss you out. Still a bit buggy with the cold/flu thing. Next week or the week after will try to find somewhere within sensible range who offers a paid flu jab. Logic says I should be well before I go though.

Heard back from A1d as I had to reschedule my app with them, want to see me next week now. Only problem is the new one is at a different place, miles away! Even though the job is at the local place. I think they misunderstood my reasons for initially wanting to postpone the first app, but I'm torn now as I can't really move it again as they are not going to be happy but I was not good enough to go to the first one. Hmm. Rock/Hard place. I'll have to sleep on it over the weekend they don't want an answer before Mon anyway. Any sensible thoughts on this. There's no right answer though.

@PN Pleased to read you enjoyed the Tobie (typo deliberate) filled pudding. I did glance online at our local one, well local as in 5 miles away! Merely as I'd never looked before nor been in it. They do appear to have some nice things. Suspect aside from 'regional variations' most meals are about the same (prices aside) for all of them. Hope you've settled in a bit more too. :)

@Farway, let me know how the 'mixi-veg or mixi-mince' thing goes, even if you hate it! :D The very few people I have managed to convince with the mince one have enjoyed it though provided its only a tiny sprinkling of 'extra veggies' within.

@caronc, quite cool here today outside, more the dampness in the air factor though I think. Did rain quite a bit last night, still in the air now. Apparently it should clear up later then return tomorrow/overnight.

... they made some turkey sausage rolls (at my suggestion a while back too!) and they were exceptionally yummy. I thought they might be just for the change factor with a bit of careful seasoning, I think she used proper butchers purchased turkey mince for them but I'm not sure. Shame too far away for me to sample them. :)
Quoting my own post, some 'ready made' ones must be about. I'll have to ask.

This reminds me, I can recall many many years ago occasionally grandma would do some lovely roast potato's, cook bacon and wrap half a rasher (just enough to 'circle it' around the potato, then return them to the oven tray to finish off with the rest of the roast etc. The question I have here is do these "bacon wrapped roasted potatos's" have a proper name please ? :) If it helps the reason for double cooking them was to make sure the bacon although already cooked was 'double cooked and crispy' , plus it sort of slightly flavoured the potato too, its a kind of "pigs in blankets" but with roast potato's instead of sausage. Might have some French name perhaps.

    Welcome Brandy 62

My broadband and phone have just changed over to JL, went smoothly and promptly, Even phoned me to check OK. I like it when things just work as expected

Into L's this morning, I was horrified, large dustbin sized container in the waste collection point, loaded with packs of butter & Minebel type cheeses dumped, boo hoo. :(

This area is very well fenced off and my arms are too short or a few would have found their way into Farway Freezer

Not to worry, I did get the leeks & dishwasher tablets on offer, plus milk and some chocs

PN, & others, just in case you are near L's cheese offer is on from next Friday, the special weekends now start Fridays, which suits me just fine 'cos I;m always in first thing Fridays. Today's DW tabs were a weekend special

Lunch was toast & HM marmalade having run out of YS rolls at last

Dinner, I think it will be use up toast, with beans, fried eggs & grated cheese.

I may make leek & tattie soup or leave it until tomorrow, certainly cold enough for a bowl of warming soup

PastureNew - I haven't been to a Toby for years. Can you still get bigger plates if you pay a bit more?

No need for a bigger plate.
1/ It's plenty big enough already.
2/ You can go back and top up as often as you'd like.

Today at 10am I was driving past Toby .... but resisted. Wasn't hungry in any case... it'd have been piggery to do it two mornings in a row without a very good reason.

Lunch was a shop bought chicken/stuffing sandwich & a chicken samosa (£1.29+.99) -> and from the back of the car one of those packs of doritos I'd bought yesterday and a can of fizzy pop ..... sitting in a "30 minutes free" car park overlooking water/kind of "the sea" :)

Volume/choice -v- cost Toby is hard to beat..... £4.99 all you can scoff -v- any shop bought sandwich + 2 items + a drink comes close when you tot it up and never fills you to the gills for the whole day.

No houses of note to mention....

    Good evening everyone,

Andy - I've roasted baby spuds wrapped in bacon a few times, we call just call them bacon wrapped spuds:).
Farway - Glad the phone/broadband switch went smoothly:)
PN - yes it's scary how much a sandwich + snack+ crisps cost. As you say you can just about buy a cooked meal for the price.:(
It looks as though barring any unforeseen hitches my Dad's flat will be sold before the end of the month! The buyers are keen to get entry and there is nothing to hold things back at our end so fingers crossed. Apart from that I've had a very quiet afternoon, I got the chores I wanted done before lunch, prevaricated over tackling some admin and had a very enjoyable hour with my feet up joined by next door's cat who was in super purring/cuddle me mode. I think we were both disappointed when my phone rang ending our cuddle fest:rotfl::rotfl:.
Naan pizza just needs throwing together for dinner and while the oven is on I'll roast another batch of toms as there are loads again needing used up.

That's good news re the flat Caronc :). It's always good when these things go smoothly

WHMF sorry the back is still playing up, it sounds like you have good neighbours

The gardener came around and quoted to tidy and clear my front and back gardens for the winter and the amount I budgeted for the back garden will cover them both :D. So that'll saved me a job and avoid the allergic reaction I have to something in the front garden :T he will also remove a couple of large plants and importantly take it all away. He's busy until the end of the month so I'm waiting for him to text me some dates :)

My sister and my nephews are coming for dinner tomorrow and to help me put together a piece of flat pack storage for my small bedroom, so the freezer has been raided for salmon as requested and some lurking beef short ribs so it will be 'Chinese' with some stir fry veg and noodles with bean sprouts. Key lime pie also requested for dessert

Lunch today was LO Nasi Goreng which matured nicely over night. Dinner steak, mushroom and onion sandwich with a chimichurri sauce after all it is Friday :)

Last night I did a shop at Tesco, which turned out to be far more challenging than I expected. It was about 6.30 and very busy.... aka noisy. By the time I'd gone down the first aisle, with all the movement of people, bright lights, unexpected noises, beeps from self-scanners and was finally hit by "the man on the fresh ice counter reepeatedly bashing the ice with a big plastic scoop to break it up/to empty the display for the day" I was at meltdown point.

At that point I had zero food and wanted to flee, but I kept going. I was actually just pacing all the aisles trying to "calm down/look normal" and often failing.... I did see the 14p noodles and got a bag. Not sure why as I've not got a way to eat them (jug's in storage).

I had another go at the ready meals section, but was overwhelmed when I suddenly saw a Mr T £2.50 pack of chinese curry/rice so got one, but the shelf label said "3 for £6" and I thought "why not..." - then it was that dilemma: when you see "3 for..." you find there's only one you like, or four... there were four I could've chosen, so struggled.

I ended up getting a thai chicken curry, chicken chow mein, sweet & sour chicken. I was then on a roll so headed for the bread/cakes section and got a pack of 10 scones (49p) and a jar of jam (28p).

Tea last night was: thai chicken curry/rice, followed by three scones with jam dabbed on them :)

They are in a deep/2-section plastic container, this is one of the type

I can't really do 'loud' anymore as I really need to concentrate to use the left half of my body - that said I bet I fall asleep during my MRI scan tomorrow - it's on the cards. All I have to do is lie there and pretend I'm Yuri Gagarin...

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
