I opened the omnipresent can of chicken in white sauce. Half decanted to the fridge ... the other half has been topped with the mash I made yesterday and is currently cooking/browning in the oven.

Might open those peas.... can't decide. I should really as I've nothing else here that'd go with peas.

Perhaps mix the peas 'into' the mash ? :) Must confess when I tried this with a sliced carrot it was a bit grim somehow, but it worked really well when i tried with half a dozen baby carrots, I'd merely chopped them in half first them thrown them in the mash. Obviously said carrots were cooked and mash was 'ready to eat' too.

I think at the moment I have something odd with mixing various veg in other things just to see how it turns out. :o

I did try some luncheon meat a while back cut up into tiny bits (think sugar cube size or a bit less) mixed in with some veg but it seemed to spoil it somehow. It then occured to me later that day that the slight warming of the meats in the veg might not of been such a good idea, I did not cook it like that, I merely 'mixed in' the bits after the 'veg mix' was done. Probably won't try that one again!

WHMF I may steal your idea next time I make a burger :)

I decided that after two weeks holiday we should be allowed to have a gradual return to work, unfortunately the boss didn't seem open to the idea  at least it was a wet day which suited the mood but did mean no walk lunchtime :o.

I wanted to use the rest of prawns I opened yesterday so lunch was prawn and egg salad (I brought a larger bag of spinach leaves than I meant to so that was my salad leaves). Dinner was the last of the lentils and vegetables with thinly cut pork fillet which was in the freezer and the last of the lo french bean, I fried some shallots as it was needed with the pork and lentils. Very tasty and the pork works well with puy lentils. :)

Pizza for tea - simple margherita with added stuff (probably padron peppers, mushroom & some slivers of milano salami)
Lucky you, I love padron peppers but always seem to get a hot one:eek: (doesn't stop me enjoying them though!)

    Having hgrown potatoes with meat.
It's hard to beat the wonderful taste of homegrown potatoes, a bowlful, well buttered, and I'm more than happy just to have them by themselves.:D

PN & Andy a hat-trick for CFO mash today I see, I have a portion from the batch I made last week defrosting to have with my savoury mince tonight.

My stove flue is swept and the stove inspection done, I apparently have been using it properly:). It didn't take the guys long and there was no mess at all. :) The guys were absolutely filthy having being called out to a soot collapse (big house, beautifully kept) where the owners who had a lovely open fire hadn't bothered getting the chimney swept for many years then wondered why the fire wasn't drawing properly and poked a stick up the chimney to see why:eek::eek:. They were so lucky it hadn't caught fire and the resulting soot fall put the fire out rather than scattering it.

The rain finally stopped mid-afternoon but by the time the stove guys were away I cba gardening and did some (overdue) chores instead. It's been a milder day today but getting cooler now it's dark, not cold enough to need any heating but a definite temperature dip.

HM lentil & bacon soup was lovely, I had some with a slice of bread & butter to dip.:D There's loads left so lunches for the next couple of days are covered and some will need to be squeezed into the freezer. The tomatoes I roasted yesterday yielded two full 500ml tubs and while I got them on my freezer "tub shelf" okay I reckon the soup will need on a shelf designated for something else for the time being.

Just before 7pm my sis unexpectedly arrived for a cuppa/natter she had arranged to pick my nephew but got back earlier than expected and knew if she went home she'd be loathe to go back out so coming to mine seemed like a happy compromise:rotfl::rotfl:.

Savoury mince, mash and garden beans for dinner - just needs nuking so a quick put together and minimal dirty dishes.:)

I'm glad you survived your first day back - wouldn't a gradual return after annual leave be wonderful....
I do like the sound of your pork & lentils, my kind of dish.:)

I find it's a good way to use lots of different veg, I like to dice it small. Also works well with cod or mackerel :)

I didn't mention it, but in £land the other day (in there for a bag of chocs which I've already eaten) I grabbed a 9-pack of Kit Kat on my way to the till. I'd assumed they were the dark choc/mint ones I'd had the other week.... opened one at home, without looking, and thought "this isn't what I expected.... not unpleasant though." I eventually read the pack they were Lemon Drizzle Kit Kats. I'd definitely buy those again (so far scoffed 6 of the 9).

The Morries cheapo mushy peas were some of the worst I've ever had. Edible, but definitely not a keeper.

The tinned chicken in white sauce was nice enough, but would probably have been better served with much more mash, so it was more of a "surprise find" than being a major part of the volume of food. I doubt I'll buy a can again, they're the sort of thing one never gets round to being able to use.

Might do beans on toast today. Also chicken/mash and the 2nd half of that can of peas.
  • Meatballs for tonight, have taken some beef chunks out to do something with tomorrow, will search the d/l recipes on my PC, note to self - delete some of these, never going to cook no matter how good they look.

@PN , I was never quite up to trying M's peas in tins for some reason. I think the reviews perhaps made me stop. Having said that their tinned s-corn was quite reasonable. Mentioning briefly chocchocs ( :D ) , local BM has some orange KK's in or did last time I looked. Last ones I got were the 4pack of Wispies, almost normal size bars so not bad for £1

@WHM I still have those meatballs I brought for a special treat, I may have to have them tonight , well one tin of them at least (yes tins, I know) half planned on it last night but then it was too late / I was not really hungry enough / not really in the mood for it all etc. :ashamed:
