  • Good for you.xx

When my husband got cancer a few years it was a depressing conversation with the insurance people as his type of cancer wasn't covered by our policy. Luckily, he is okay now, well, he has to have another scan this week so I shouldn't tempt fate.

    Thanks.
I was bricking it at claim time because I have an income protection policy, which is pretty vague (and I nearly cancelled it so many times). Anyway good luck with the scan, got one myself in about 3-4 weeks - MRI with contrast, that's being injected with what is technically paint then 40 minutes locked inside a tumble drier listening to Gabba

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    Good evening everyone,
I completely relate to that horrible "on edge" feeling when you don't know if something if going to work out in your favour or not. I had what felt like an endless few months waiting to see if my ill health retirement application would be approved. Thankfully it was.:)
My sis did pop round and her hair was as frizzed as mine by the damp so we were well matched:rotfl::rotfl:.
It dried up for a bit and I got some more done outdoors, not as much as I would have liked due to a combination of my garden waste bin being full (I don't want anymore tough veg matter in my compost just now) and the warmer day bringing out the wasps that were definitely getting antsy at my poking about where they wanted to lurk. I noticed my chard and calvo nero has got a new lease of life after being decimated by caterpillars, I'll soon be able to start picking it again and they both survive well when it gets colder so should last for a good bit yet.:) After I finished up outside I set about chopping veg for Scotland as I like loads of veg in bacon & lentil soup. It's just finished cooking and I'm looking forward to a lovely smell once I can release the pressure cooker lid:D. I prefer my lentil soup neither completely smooth nor too chunky so chop all the veg pretty finely and just give the cooked soup a brief blitz with the stick blender. As I was in "chopping mode" anyway I carried on and diced the remaining leeks for the freezer. I had used around 1/3 of a 2 pack packet of largeish ones so plenty left that I have no plans to use up this week. The leeks had been on SO in Tesco at 70p for 2 decent sized ones, I really ought to start growing them again as they grow well and can be quite pricey IMHO in the SM when not on SO. I tend not to buy the frozen ones as they are too coarsely cut for me unless I want some for something I know I'm going to puree. I'm probably showing my age but when I was growing up leeks were a really cheap veg to buy and the greengrocer would often chuck one in with the rest of your veg for free. Curly parsley was another thing that used to get thrown in for free especially when it got coarse towards the end of winter, it's dear to buy now but I've never managed to grow it.:( Thankfully my friend has a huge patch and keeps me well supplied.:D

Dinner won't take long as it's an oven bung and it will take all of 5 mins to prep a tray of toms for roasting to make passatta tomorrow.

Lazy day today, I had planned to tackle the garden then CBA which I'm now regretting as I've spent the day picking crisps, biscuits, fruit cheese etc

I've the post holiday blahs and not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow  I did open my work emails today and found over 700 emails  I've deleted the ones I can which didn't need any work doing but didn't do any proper work that can wait until tomorrow :(

Lunch was LO lentils and veg with prawns and some sweet chilli sauce. No dinner as I've eaten carp all afternoon so I'm not hungry. I did make some chicken laksa which has joined the LOs in the fridge

I can usually grow parsley but this year it didn't grow not sure why  I do buy the supermarket pots especially if I see them YS and they tend to last a while in the kitchen window, when they start to look sad I freeze. I do tend to use more in the summer than winter

Have a good trip to Plymouth Farway hopefully you'll avoid the forecasted rain on the drive down

  • what a weather change but rain, at long last and I am not moaning at all, plants are loving it. I picked lots of russets yesterday, a tad early but they were almost falling off and there are enough left on the tree. Peeled quartered sliced, now lightly cooking in butter and honey. Will freeze later for posh tarts
The honey made me want honey on white toast, so that is next, with a lovely pot of fresh coffee. I was dozing outside in the warm sun yesterday, my body cannot adapt quickly any more, so I feel cold although it is not really cold, just dark and wet
Got to go on a veg use-up mission until I have an empty veg drawer. Will roast some today with a sprinkling of the delish dorset herbs, got one quinoa burger and will roast that at the same time, remoska for all
Likely to be frozen soup for tea

Up & about and just catching up before Westward Ho
last CFO was porridge + chopped apple for breakfast, next few days is whatever catches my eye or is planked in front of me
Could be full English breakfast tomorrow, my B & B does nice one, sign of the times, I have to get the smaller version these days

Al apples picked, now in the fridge, I had hoped to stew & freeze but time was short & then decided I'd like to use zip lock bags as seen on MSE, seems they are easier to squeeze in odd freezer corners before the freeze

Last year was my fist year of parsley growing, someone on here said to try fresh in a parsley sauce. very easy even though I rarely use it

Looks like we'll be driving into rain, but by ETA is it should be gone from Plymouth area, which suits me fine, walk down the Barbican for dinner somewhere

There is Wi Fi but I May not log on for a few days, I'll see how it goes

    Raining here today. Cold, wet.

I've cold mash in the fridge, I've fresh spuds to get through. I've 20 chips in the freezer. I've half a loaf of bread. I have 2 sausages.

    I'm out of eggs.

I've no idea what I'll make. I did put that tin of chicken/white sauce on the worktop the other day, to think about using it up. I might open that and top it with mash; I might need to cook more mash, especially as there'll still be the 2nd half of the tin to eat at some point once it's opened. I did buy a tin of mushy peas, which'd work as a side dish/add colour.

    Good morning everyone,

I hope you enjoy your time away Farway.
It's absolutely tipping it down here at the moment so I'm pleased I don't need to go anywhere today. The stove flue is gettng swept this afternoon so I need to clear the living room a bit so they can get in at it properly. I'm having HM soup for lunch and mince & tatties for dinner tonight - proper Autumn food with the weather to match!
  • Tipping down here too, which is good as I need to stay in & rest. Just went for a fried breakfast myself, I really needed it. Bacon, eggs (smashed, fried both sides), black pudding & mushrooms served in left over pittas. Pizza for tea - simple margherita with added stuff (probably padron peppers, mushroom & some slivers of milano salami)

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
  • Have a big beef and red onion burger out of freezer and plan on putting in a tortilla amd making a parcel, bake in oven, sort of cheapo beef in puff pastry thing. I do not really have yoghurt and if I buy 6 flavoured ones they sit in fridge for weeks ( what is a sell by/use by date??) I do like mustard so will smear that on my burger, thanks for suggestion. Having hgrown potatoes with meat.

Rain and more rain here too. Shopping trip out the window it seems. I did pop out quickly to the P.O (essential visit and its nearby) but apart from that it seems journey's will have to wait till tomorrow now.

Not sure on lunch yet. I really should use up the two spoonful's of old instant mash soon so I may drop that onto something, plus with a modicum of luck tomorrow I may find some of that 'onion mash' at A1d's possibly too.
