Breakfast this morning has been: 2 Walls sausages, 2 scrambled eggs and beans. Out of eggs now.

I've still got the minced beef pasty (39p) I picked up on Wednesday, I've still got spuds. I might have pasty, mash and beans later. Have to see what I fancy.

Sunny day, today my main tasks are water the plant pots and pack my bag ready for tomorow trip. Packing is not hard as I man pack, chuck it in holdall and off I go:o

I've never tried to multi qoute, giving it a go now, cut & past method

Farway you're just miss the Dorset show which is on this weekend. We used to stop at the services on the A35 at Bridport, couple of miles before Chideock which looks like a porta cabin but served a very good bacon sandwich or bacon, egg and chips.
Missed it by accident not design but glad I have. I'll keep eyes peeled for Portacabin style but it may be "too soon" into our trip to stop there

True. :) Sometimes a bit of care/prudence goes a long way as such. As you know its not always about saving, just choices sometimes.

I'm aware of a friends father who did something perhaps like that (depends) summary being despite now being retired he is getting about the same per month, from what I recall he did not have a highly paid job though by any means (think min wage plus maybe a pound if that) however compared to a bog basic pension he and his partner are quite reasonable I suppose..
Much the same happened to me, again more by luck, with state pension, SERPs & voluntary redundancy I finished up about same as working but with less outlays, petrol for instance
Of course SERPS was such a good deal it was quickly replaced once Government realised people like me benefited from it and failed to die a year after retiring;)
As someone posted, as long as I keep breathing I'm OK

Glad it worked for you:D. While spare freezer might not fit in the kitchen a) do you know anyone with a bigger car and b) could it go somewhere else? As you probably have guessed I'm in the "you can never have too much freezer space" camp:rotfl::rotfl:

Yep, I stuck mine in the lobby, one plus of living alone is do what you want in your own house, and think how many YS W8rose hams you'll get in;)

I don't use much oil and tbh don't ever look at the BBE date, keep it in a cupboard in the dark and it will last for a long, long, time. I've tried the sprays and tbh I felt they were really poor value and I was paying for a lot of water, additives and thickeners. A litre of oil in a coolish dark place will keep for at least year probably much, much more and if you want a spray small spray bottles are really cheap online. Equally a splash in a pan with a rub round with kitchen roll or a cheap pastry brush work just as well. You could get a spray to try and see how you get on then decide from there.
Same here, I keep mine, rapeseed, in the fridge. I tried decanting into a small sprayer but found it more trouble than worth, now I just glug it where needed
A good business model would be to start a "domestic kitchen deep cleaning service" and publish lots of stir fry recipes on Facebook to advertise ..... make your own customers :)
Will you book me in please?:o

I eat at the table, nothing fancy though just place for me. Main reason is a reality, has a firm base, I've had too many meals finish in my lap or on the floor

Lunch will be some SC gammon in last of the YS rolls
Dinner, ditto gammon with salad I think. bit more use up, then LO gammon into freezer
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens
  • We have one of those frying pans where you don't need to use oil.

I do have the healthy spray oil, a bottle of olive oil and of sesame oil in the cupboard but don't use them all that often.

I was feeling like I was coming down with something yesterday but I took high dose Vit C and echinacea and feel okay today. I'm not sure which one of them worked but I'm glad they did!

I've only had a glass of sparkling water with lemon so far today.

    I don't know what I fancy eating...

  • I always use a padded lap tray, I know its lazy but so much easier. Am getting rid (slowly) of my Good crockery, trying to get in a position to downsize as have to do the good leg bad leg style going up and down stairs, should have the 4th replacement joint operation but putting it off "see me out" attitude but if I downsize I want that to last a lot longer. Trouble is I have 3 full freezers and loads of cupboard food which is why I am always trying to eat out of stores, good job I love cooking even for one and experimenting (thats why cupboards all full of herbs/spices/unusual stuff) Some sort of chicken pasta meal this evening, chicken breast in ras en hasout (middle eastern spice) yesterday was lovely.

    Good afternoon everyone,
I think if you hob cook at all, even if not frying you do get cooking residue clinging on nearby surfaces. I know what you mean though PN about clinging grease. When we moved into this house it was quite frankly dirty and the kitchen was literally coated in a thick hard layer of grease and grime on every surface. We were ripping the kitchen out as it was falling to bits and decades old so didn't have to worry about trying to remove it but it was disgusting, worse than we thought from viewing!
No sunshine so far today, it's quite grey and drizzly. I'm glad I got a good lot done outdoors yesterday. :) It is quite a bit milder though, it was blooming cold later on yesterday evening. I popped to the post box earlier and while wasn't actually raining it was damp enough to completely frizz my newly straightened hair, never mind I'm not going anywhere else and not expecting any visitors. My sis might pop by but she doesn't count:rotfl:
Juggling my meal plan about a bit as I want to roast toms later as I have a load on the point of turning squishy so may as well have an oven cooked meal. Quiche, baked spuds, mini corn cob and baked tom for dinner. Lunch will be a repeat of yesterday's cheese & lettuce sarnie, cue sticks and a plum as the fruit & veg are all needing used up. If I don't get outdoors later I'll probably make a pot of soup for lunches during the week, I'm thinking lentil & bacon as I haven't made this for a while and have everything I need for it my stores.

I hate waste but would like to do the chicken breast in flour/egg and breadcrumbs but it does not use all the egg - do you have to throw the rest away or some other use for it. Any ideas please. What do you use instead of cream, usually double, in recipes. I should not have cream and once opened how to use/store the remainder. More ideas please??

do you use plain yogurt at all? my sister uses a thin layer of it to stick breadcrumbs and spices to her chicken/fish/pork escalopes etc. i've never tried it but she says it isn't a stand out flavour.
if you like mustard i've used that, a mild mustard works well.
  • I made bolognese again with rigatoni pasta for brunch. I put green olives in the sauce and it was very nice. I feel very full up now.

I cannot believe how much the weather has changed. I was shivering before I got in the shower. I prefer cooler weather anyway. I have a jumper on over my dress.

I bought some white tea flavoured with orange. I'm making it in my MAGIC tea maker.:)

Now you mention it I think I have seen those, sort of ceramic / stone type affairs ?

I know what you mean when you're sort of 'on the edge' of not sure if you're going to get something or not, best way I can describe it. Good to know the meds helped. The Vit was I think a good idea, moreso if you could not face some fresh fruit or such.
I've only had a glass of sparkling water with lemon so far today.

Oh I get that quite a lot! :D , I'm sure eventually (assuming you're feeling well enough) you're stomach will direct you to a cupboard or shelf at some point soon. ;)

It was quite cool here this morning about 8 or 9 degree's celcius out, but its currently about 18 now apparently, at least according to my outside wall thermometer. Its more the cool wind I think the sun rays are reasonable but the wind is quite chilly it seems, odd thing is the breeze is not even that strong.

Not a tea fan I must confess. Never buy it and only drink it if its given rather than offered. Having said that I've not heard of orange tea before. :)
  • It is actually warmer than I thought outside! I just went for a 45 minute walk.:)

I was looking for white tea with strawberries but couldn'tfind any on Amazon so I got orange instead.

The pan I got was a forged aluminium Blackmoor one. My husband said it cooks eggs really well without any oil.

I know that feeling. Back in the day standard practice was to out drink a cold, like a scorched earth policy. If you didn't go far enough though then things became a hell of a lot worse

These days I can't get away with that kind of behaviour

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
