A restless night, the promised storm arrived, blowing a hoolie & chucking it down so much it woke me a few times in the night, plus odd creaks with the wind, is the roof coming off?
Still blowing this morning, sun now peeping out in between the rain, there does not appear to be any visible damage so far, even my 10 footer sunflower is still upright;)
Porridge breakfast
Then cracked on assembling slow cooker savoury mince, a good clear out of veg drawer yielded lone large carrot, spuds with long sprouts, couple of shallots on the soft side and LO limp celery.
That sorry bunch plus YS lean mince from 2018, with freezer burn, went in, plus tin of toms & 2 x Oxo cubes
It's plopping on low nicely now. I may lob a coupe of dumplings in this afternoon
The master plan regarding weather seems to have gone to plan so far, rib sticking tasty meal, with plenty LO
Lunch, expected to be cheese & "use up" shallot sarnie, with my fresh loaf made last night.
I sampled the crust yesterday evening, with some HM marmalade, just for a quality check of course;)Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Good morning everyone,
Dryish here just now after a wet & wild night though looking at the sky not for long.
I'm going to finish my cuppa then nip out and water the greenhouse before the rain returns.
Then the freezers beckon, I may be gone some time;):rotfl:0 -
I had a cherry yoghurt and a banana when I woke up earlier.
I went back to bed and now had toast with marg.
I'm making baked potatoes later. I realised we only have one veggie sausage left so my husband can have it and I might make a chickpea salad to go with mine.
That or just stuffing, steamed veggies and gravy, depends what I feel like.:A0 -
Custard tarts, yummm. Stir fry for lunch, lots of bits left over in fridge, or omlette, got a marg tub full of Home made lentil curry from Indian neighbour/friend. Some tonight but the rest will be portioned and frozen.Decided to have with chips. Bought a Co-op £5 meal deal so that will be at least 4 meals, 2 Youngs fish, Youngs fish cakes, McCain chips, Co-op peas and a tub of Carte D'or Ice cream, just managed to get in freezer.0

Good afternoon,
First freezer underway - found one UFO, a piece of elderly baguette and a very OOD (mainly used up) tub of ice cream which have been ditched. However, I've abandoned ship for a while (everything is safely in the freezer) as the sun has come out and my kitchen is roasting! It's supposed to rain again later, if not I'll continue tomorrow.
Lunch was a ham & lettuce sarnie, cucumber sticks, beetroot and a peach. I'm thinking it's now time to make a cuppa and put my feet up for a bit.0 -
Still showers & windy, but the good news is the SC savoury mince now has dumplings floating in it and smelling tasty:jBought a Co-op £5 meal deal so that will be at least 4 meals, 2 Youngs fish, Youngs fish cakes, McCain chips, Co-op peas and a tub of Carte D'or Ice cream, just managed to get in freezer.
Surprisingly the Co-op £5 deal can be good value if you strike it right. I've had a few but find my Co-op often has lots of empty spaces so can't get a balanced buyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I made some ready meals for myself, only took minutes. Cooked pasta mixed with chopped cougette, LO red pepper and 2 cubes of hm frozen thawed pesto plus extra olive oil. Topped with browned slices of aubergine, slicedtomato and a crumbled circle of goats cheese on each portion. I have to think ahead, it is full on doing some hard manual soil prep ready for autumn permanent planting
Ridiculous, the aches keep me tossing all night, either that or it is full moon or a whizzy mind. I am tired right now and feel like going up and just quietly listening to Clive Bull on the radio. I cannot read right now and can`t sit to watch tv, am stupidly already killing time to bedtime. I cannot believe me sometimes, up to bed at 8-9 and up with a bounce and energy at 5. Then after breakfast I am ready to go out to dig but have to do quiet jobs as any normal person will still be asleep. I think the heat at night got me out of my sleep routine
I suppose it could well have been the wind last night0 -
Good evening everyone,
There's small co op on the outskirts of town but it's very hit or miss, I used to use it a fair bit when I was still driving as I passed it on my way home from work and it was much cheaper than the near by Spar. Sometimes it was really well stocked and others empty with no apparent pattern to how it might be. Fine if you just need milk but unreliable for anything else. Good wine deals though;)
Pleasingly the forecasted rain never arrived and I actually sat out for a bit enjoying the sunshine. It did cloud over around 5pm but it stayed dry. The cloud meant it was cool enough to finish the first freezer. In the end I decided to pop everything I had in tubs dotted here and there on the top double shelf which did mean punting a load of stuff from the other freezer into it so I've not managed to leave that space empty but I do have one of the other shelves empty:D:D and there should be quite a bit of space in the second freezer once I sort it out. It's impressive the amount of space a bit of reorganisation as great as only dirched the three things I mentioned earlier. I do though seem to have a massive collection of tubs with various bits in, mainly stock and things like HM pesto & tomato sauce rather than "here's one I made earlier" like savoury mince. But I use these "building blocks" a lot in my cooking so I don't mind and it's good to have them all in the one place.:)
I got an email earlier from one of the online butchers I use (Heartier) saying they have stopped trading. Their meat was decent quality but expensive (worth it I thought) and probably a lot of folk like me shopped irregularly and waited for offers rather using their subscription service/buying regularly. A reflection of current times and possibly that a lot of folk are eating less meat less often. It's a shame though.:(
Meatless rather than veggie for me tonight as I made my ramen broth with chicken & pork stock. My tofu block is being pressed in the fridge. I'll chop it soon and pop in the stock to marinade for 1/2 an hour before I dip it in seasoned flour then fry it. Fingers crossed it tastes good as not something I've cooked often, when I did I used the pre-marinated stuff from the Chinese supermarket. The noodles, egg and veg (spring onions, mushrooms, green beans & kale) won't take long to prep or cook.:) No doubt there will be LOs which I'll have for lunch tomorrow.0 -
A chicken breast plus l/o sauce and some veggies in SC so should be just enough for one meal but I also think it unfair ref doughnuts, end up buying cakey stuff that can be frozen or pigging out. I often fancy a bit of cake about once a week so if I make one, it has to be traybake style so I can freeze lots of blocks, then I forget to eat them.0

Good morning everyone,
And the rain came tumbling down...........
It's been battering down since the early hours and my the bottom of my garden is flooded again!!:(
My crispy tofu worked a treat last night and LOs will be reheated and had for lunch:).
Sorting out freezer two and some cooking beckon this afternoon. I'm going to make a potato, courgette and onion bake. I'll make a biggish one as I'm still working my way through the courgette glut and have a carton of cream needing used up. I'll freeze the spare portions. Despite the multitude of tubs in the freezer I'm short on HM RMs and a portion of that makes a good back bone for a quick dinner. With the bake I'm going to roast a piece of hake smeared with HM pesto and wrapped in parma ham. I'll roast some cherry toms as well to have with it. That'll will use the last of the pesto from the freezer and I'll make another batch during the week.0
