I'm blaming you for my late night Caronc :rotfl: In the Brownies at midnight probably isn't a good idea on a school night :D
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:how he ever got away with that one.....

Yep stored chillies dried or frozen definitely gain heat. I once dried, blitzed, stored a bunch of what had been mild ones and promptly forgot about them. Suffice to say had to be used sparingly once re-discovered ;)

I think that's probably why we don't see it repeated Caronc :rotfl: I'm surprised Mary Whitehouse wasn't up in arms :D

I would make chilli oil but I think it would only need the one chilli per litre of oil

It probably went right over her head it had more double-entrendes than a "Carry On" film :rotfl:(shan't mention the no doubt urban myth of her being outraged about small birds liking coconuts she heard on the radio on what turned out to be a gardening programme;))

Could be worth a nosy past your recycling centre for wheeled bins etc. it's amazing what folk dump after they have moved:eek: and ours certainly are good at letting you take stuff especially if you explain why. We got a load of crates when we were first clearing my Dad's, though in reality they were borrowed as they went back to the site when we were finished.

Ours is quite small, they have a section for stuff they can flog... usually it's old tat there though, nothing decent. I've heard the "decent" stuff gets whisked away pronto to another location 20 miles away and sold on Saturday mornings.

I'm "a bit funny" about dirty things.... I'd prefer to buy a brand new wheelie bin if I were to ever do it.... which I probably won't as I have 1000 great ideas every day but only use one every 20 years :)

carolc's tuna/pasta's been 'annoying' me for a couple of days now.

Although not critical to eat, I have four tins of tuna. What is more critical is using up an opened packet of pasta that looks like about 2 portions.

I've been wanting to make a Tuna Mornay for about two weeks now .... but need a white sauce - and I've not had milk for a month. And I can't buy milk/make that as I've got to get through those spuds too ... and, from a 2.5Kg bag, I've only eaten two so far.

Also, if I were to buy the milk to make a tiny bit of white sauce, I'd then have to use up the milk .... and, while I can use a lot of a pint making an angel delight, I'd probably think "Giant yorkshire", but that's winter food again.

I've actually gone through tagging my recipes that could use milk... so I've got a big set of ideas when I need to, but I still need to have other ingredients in most of the time & to fancy eating whatever it is :)

*sighs*. Always ingredients short; always food that has to be eaten soonish.

    Currently out of: bread, eggs.
Bit low on: cheese, but not critical.

    Good morning all!

I've been a bit MIA the last couple of weeks. I've been working almost full time, and doing my evening tutoring work. So I've just had to concentrate on keeping my head above water in terms of managing my energy levels and keeping on top of the house.
It's not been helped by the fact that I've had 2 busy weekends in a row. Last Saturday I was on an all-day paediatric first aid course, and then had to complete 2 hours of online training as well. Then Sunday was mostly taken up with taking a friend out for her birthday. It was lovely, but sometimes you just want a day at home, on your own. I'm sure my fellow introverts out there will agree!

This weekend though... I've deliberately kept it free and clear, and all for me. Tomorrow, I'm going to head into the town centre (which I haven't done for months), have a Costas, maybe stick my head in the Next sale, and then have a tour around the book shelves in the charity shops. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 5, but there's probably more. I also want to have a look in Homesense for some sort of decorative box for jewellery storage. I'm getting into earrings again, but my current storage system is woefully inadequate.

Then Sunday will probably just be a quiet day at home, with just my books for company. :) Lovely! Been looking forward to this coming weekend for a fortnight!

I was meant to be working today, but the lady I was covering was coming back. It was a busy but successful fortnight, and as I was leaving yesterday, the cleaner stopped me, and thanked me for keeping the classroom a lot tidier!

Foodwise… I've been a bit rubbish with meals this week... Yesterday, I wasn't home until 7:30, and all I felt like was a bowl of mashed potato and gravy! It was "proper" mash though - I boiled the potatoes and everything!

Wholemeal toast with marg and Marmite for breakfast.

I'm going to go out now to buy the cucumber for the watermelon salad as it is supposed to be very hot later on!:)

I love watermelon in salad Wednesday especially with cucumber, red onion, feta & lots of mint. :)You could buy a tub of the growing mint from the SM and pot it on, they do really well and so handy to have to hand.

Yes, I should do that really, I do like fresh herbs.

I use a nuker steamer to make mine.
    Peel/slice, toss in.
    1/2" of water. Lid on.
4 mins, spoon them round a bit.

    4 mins.... probably done.
Tip into a bowl, add a knob of marg and mash with a fork.
