Today marks two weeks alcohol-free :j which, according to the NHS, is sufficient to reverse the early stages of fatty liver. Not diagnosed with anything, just a walking risk factor through Winter and into Spring. Upper jelly-belly is noticably reduced! :D

Far too many days to play catch-up, but ....

Monday: Made roasted stuffed mushrooms: two with a whole egg and Manchego cheese, two with bits and bats (goats cheese/ chopped hazelnuts/ sunblush tomatoes/ spring onion).

Thursday: Cooked madras-spiced salmon fillets and hard-boiled eggs. Ate one salmon fillet with tomato and vegetable sauce.

Saturday: Made Asian rice noodle soup (king prawns/ scallops/ red cabbage/ baby corn/ edamame/ spring onion).

Ten days food waste: Two YS smoked mackerel fillets, two purple carrots, one and a half unripe avocados, half a tin of ruby red grapefruit segments, last of the grapefruit and rhubarb sauce, last of the Asian rice noodle soup. :o

Brambling Now that is my kinda conversation! :rotfl:

At the till I joined a discussion about gin with the customer in front and the check out operator :D I learnt two things

1 - the Sipsmith Lemon Drizzle Gin which is on offer is worth buying but dangerous as really nice and doesn't taste like it's alcohol
2 - how to make chocolate orange vodka in the dishwasher  I'm not sure about chocolate vodka and whether that could be a waste of both the vodka and chocolate orange, but liked the sound of a recipe which started 'drink enough of the vodka to fit in the chocolate orange' :rotfl:
We parted company with the suggestion we may all meet up at the local AA meeting :p
You certainly don't get those sort of conversations when you shop online, brings a whole new meaning to "loading the dishwasher!:rotfl::rotfl:

    Good evening everyone,

It's been a bit of long & dreary day though thankfully the wind has settled down so hopefully my balance will follow.:)

I seem to have done an awful lot of not very much today :o.
Lunchtime soup worked well and there is enough left for a couple more lunches. Dinner is LOs so just needs nuked. Despite having a fridge full of bits I've placed a grocery delivery for Wednesday as I'm running low on/out of essentials, hardly a surprise as the last thing I bought was milk & bread (which surprisingly hasn't gone mouldy so far) on 26th May! The order was well below the £40 minimum so have ordered wine to restock the wine rack as it is a bit depleted after the kids' visit and family gathering. ;) I'll get the sourdough active and put a loaf together tomorrow to bake on Wednesday. I'm missing my HM bread, it's reminded how pappy/tasteless sliced bought bread is. That said I've ordered some ciabatta rolls as I fancy a venison burger and it's not the same in a sarnie IMHO.:)

It was W*itrose Caronc :D so he was buying Fentimans Valencia Orange tonic ;) one of his five a day it seems :rotfl: I'm assuming trying to corral the donkey can be tiring so you're allowed a day busy doing nothing :)

Dinner did ended up a airfried chips made with LO new potatoes, they work really well :) LO chicken, beetroot and sweetcorn, a lazy meal. :). More breakages in the kitchen, I knocked the glass dish with chicken fat/jelly out of the fridge it was a free glass dish but greasy mess to clean up, I only kept it to add the jelly to the chicken stock  I'm so clumsy at times

And here was I thinking my "Fevertree" was quite upmarket:rotfl:
Yes the "wonky donkey" is exhausting so while I'm frustrated it is what is regarding activity. I'm out of bed and on my feet which is always a big plus:D.
How frustrating re the breakage:(, I'm very clumsy, always have but more so now. I've bought some Duralex glasses as I was going through so many, not very expensive and yes they do bounce:rotfl:

I tend to buy fevertree as well, no point in buying good gin otherwise :D. But the Fentimans is on offer so I may take a peak at the price :)

Tiles on the kitchen floor seemed a good idea  I just forgot how often I drop things

  • Having hair done today so tuna on toast for lunch first, then into Tesoo for some fresh stuff and then to Icela.. for a few frozen bits, not much as freezers are full. On way home want to call in at the 2nd hand fridge freezer shop to see if they have a suitable one in as my under-counter freezer (bought from them 2nd hand over 20yrs ago) has started to have frost around the top of the door so have to scrape it off every time I open it. Got a chicken thight out for tonight, will turn one of the already jackets pots into wedges and have to decide between frozen spinach sprouts, still got some Xmas ones with chestnuts in, love em.

    Good morning,
We have a temporary respite from the rain and the sun is shining, the rain's back later but thankfully no more gales forecast. :) My poor runner beans are looking decidedly peaky after the storm :(but hopefully they'll perk up, if not I'll sow some more and hope for the best.
My balance is still not great so another quiet day planned, though I'm going to get a sourdough loaf ready to bake tomorrow. Apart from that I'm planning on doing an awful lot of not very much. icon_e_smile.gif

Lunch will soup and a toasted bagel topped with avocado. Bacon & veggie pasta for dinner tonight.

PN, the nuked stuffing worked well, I used an old MFO black plastic dish, so virtue signalling saving whales and polar bears;)
Glad you tried it, it does work well... if you're not somebody who likes a crispy outer skin (which I actually love, but am prepared to forego in favour of speed/ease), then in a blind test nobody would know any different.

I've got a small collection (four) of different sized mugs, for differing cooking purposes as I find they're just the right size and it's easy to have a mug sitting round in soak and/or to wash one up. I've also a carefully curated collection of microwave ready meal dishes I've retained because they're the perfect size/shape for things. For scrambled eggs I've a mug that tapers towards the base as there aren't any "corners" when I'm giving it a stir mid-cook; I use "regular mug shaped mugs" for beans, stuffing, peas. I've an oversized mug I use for making a giant Yorkie batter.

I try to keep things as small as necessary/possible so the washing up isn't daunting :)
