I'm having all new flooring put down next week and as I have tiles in the kitchen and am ever so slightly clumsy :rotfl: I've opted for cushion flooring in the kitchen. I live in hope my breakables learn to bounce.Feb 2019 GC £151.53/£300God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, wisdom to know the difference.0 -

I think I should have gone down the same route  but will have to live with my tiles, most days I'm glad I chose them. They wouldn't be a problem if I didn't drop things, at least it's one way to declutter :rotfl:

... maybe the answer is to only use plastic :rotfl:
I actually do this; a lot of my everyday stuff is picnic plates and plastic beakers. At Xmas I had to deliberately buy some glasses so I could make a snowball and have it "looking nice" rather than in a plastic beaker
I do plan on getting some plastic bowls to eat from at some point.
I find plastic better as there's no chance of chipping/dropping/smashing. One annoying feature in the house is the sink/drainer layout, with a mixer tap. I stand and have the washing sponge in my right hand and hold the item with my left; once cleaned/rinsed it then needs to go onto the drainer on the right hand side, so I run the risk of smashing everything against the mixer tap as I transfer it. This is, in part, an issue of being 5' tall possibly too as I do have to "lift" the item over the tap.
The biggest "smash" I've had was about 25 years ago, with a plate. Luckily I'd eaten my dinner and was headed into the kitchen. Being short my sleeves are at handle height and the kitchen door lever/handle went up my dressing gown sleeve, halting me... but as it jerked me back I let go of the empty plate and it smashed across the kitchen floor.
I'm super careful when using my kitchen wall cabinet as I have to "reach/stretch" up and over ... and the kettle's underneath, so I always fear my boobs knocking the kettle all down my front when I reach up, especially if I'm boiling the kettle at that time too.0 -
Yesterday I made soup, but then didn't fancy it at all, so it's boxed up in the fridge for another day... it might end up in the freezer. It really needs blending, but the trouble with that is the stick's been packed, so is in a box somewhere.... and, with the quantities I make, it seems a waste of time/effort to blend stuff because of the washing up and drying and putting it away part of using a stick blender. It's made 700g of soup, so probably about 2 tins worth at a wild guess.
I actually ate, across the day: 2 cheese/egg rolls, 2 bits of toast/marg, half a can of rice pudding/jam.
I've taken two more rolls out of the freezer, for today. Just randomly plucking items out of there really, to get it used up0 -
Good morning everyone,
Thanks for the bread tip, I'll be stashing that one for the future:).
I've recently replaced some of my glasses with Argon & Duralex ones which although aren't completely shatter proof do bounce better if dropped.....:D
It's another cold day, the sun is struggling to get through but it's very cloudy too so think we might get some more sleet and then it's due back in the minuses tonight!
Apparently it's "National Cheese Lovers" day if anyone is looking for an excuse to scoff a load:rotfl:
Going for a cooked brunch today and tonight I'm having lamb shoulder/gravy and mash both from the freezer so just some veg to cook to go with it.0 -

Lol. Me either. It's a dark day when my fridge has no cheese!
Yesterday I went to b and m and sainsbobs, with my sister. I got veg and yogurts, also got some frozen sprouts and cauli cheese, not tried that before! the reason being I'm hoping to avoid going to shops for fresh veg as I end up spending loads. Not that anything is wasted.
I got a fresh cauli and carrots which I'm having with a roast chicken roast potatoes and gravy, will, throw a couple of sprouts in too!
I've had bacon on toast for breakfast ,I don't often have bacon ,and it has to be thin and crispy, but it was delicious. I'm having bacon with jacket potato and beans tomorrow :T
Hoping to bake either scones or a cake when dgson comes round later.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
'morning all, lurgy still hanging on but improving. Hope to go for a walk around Wisley tomorrow, get some fresh air & exercise after a week of cooped up & sniffling
Last night's dinner was a real CBA, nothing I really fancied,, the only solution was scavenge around, dinner was
1 Wagon Wheel, 1 Caramel finger thing, 1 nut bar covered in chocolate thing:o
All good anti lurgy medicine
Breakfast today was usual porridge
I've taken a couple of YS beef slices out to defrost, one for lunch, t'other for dinner
Breaking glass, only last week I had to chuck my posh cut glass trifle dish away because it had a big crack across it. Not dropped but just cracked for unknown reason. No sentimental value, but very handy for the annual trifle
I've a tiled kitchen floor, mixed blessings, I dropped a bottle of olive oil, the glass bottle cracked the tile as well as smashing into bits:(. I've left the tile cracked, I've spares but certainly CBA to do anything about one tileFarway Have you just used the test to find out your ethnic background or is it one of those which allows you to find anyone with shared DNA? I read a interesting article on how it has been used to trace families of people who were abandoned as babies one woman before WW2 although it has also unfortunately revealed secrets about parentage  i do find it interesting in how different your results can be from a sibling, depending on what DNA you each inherit:
Mine was on offer from Ancestry, it has the lot except health, didn't want health, I'd rather not know that bit
It shows ethnicity, which is what I'm scratching my head over, plus links to those who have similar DNA on Ancestry, which I may or may not follow up.
One that did pop up is in Australia, uncommon surname, same heritage background of Hertfordshire, I never knew of that one but seems very likely, I may contact one day
The DNA is transferable to other sites for free comparisons, which was another reason I chose Ancestry one
I'm pondering transfers & checking for privacy conditions on other sites, don't want my DNA all over the webEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
These stories are making me laugh. I'm clumsy too.:rotfl:
I had the same breakfast today, toast, sausages and tomatoes and beans.
I want to have gravy with broccoli, carrots and sprouts later. I might have a jacket potato as well. Really fancy it.:D0 -
For DNA, my main interest would be in finding people I didn't even know existed, or those who'd disappeared.
So many loose ends in my tree.... so many little b4st4rds too
So many common names where people (mainly female) start off in my tree then become of age and "disappear" as they could've moved to work in service, or married, or anything ... and the name's too common to guess....
Even mum's father ... she was illegitimate, father's known/named ... but ... what IF granny dropped her knickers for more than one and just had a "denial" moment and named one?? Gt-granny was illegitimate - cousin thinks it was the lodger, I think the lodger appeared after the event and might be the father of the next illeg child.
Half the tree were at it.0
