    Another wet day:(

My HM chicken soup turned out to be in the OK category, missing something but don't know what, I've got half a pan left so I may bung a load of pasta in it and see how that looks / tastes

One thing about HM soup, mostly it is cheap to make so not an expensive disaster if it gets the heave ho

Breakfast usual porridge, getting colder in the kitchen now, I need to nuke & warm honey back to liquid

Lunch, probably a fried egg sarnie

Dinner, should be the soup but it does not appeal, so no real idea yet, could be a CBA beans on toast day

Update, the fried egg sarnie become one egg omelette sarnie because the yolk broke:(

95% chance of Beans on toast for CBA dinner, maybe add some grated cheese & couple of fried eggs, or morph into omelette if I break the yolks, again

Had a shufty in the freezer... I found a corned beef crispbake in there, so that was removed, and one pack of frozen mash was removed. I'll open beans in a bit .... and it'll be that for tea.

I need to make a pineapple upside down pudding, probably tomorrow, as I used two pineapple rings yesterday with the meatballs, but there were four in the tin, so two are still in the fridge. I'd like to put a little red cherry in the middle of that ring, but that's one of those ingredients I've never got .... CBA to do it today, it's quite nippy. Weather's vile.

I'm going to go food shopping tomorrow for "stocking up"... long-store stuff I can buy today, just to "stock up" so I don't have to think about getting the mundane things in the lead up to Xmas.

Nobody's Xmas list should contains the words: loo rolls, kitchen roll, baked beans, margarine ... and other dull things, so I plan to come up with a list of 12 or so things it's worthwhile buying now. Maybe a box of regular stuffing would be handy too... all the boring stuff....

It is raining here and I am trying to fight off a cold so staying home and having lots of hot drinks. Had a brunch around eleven of sausage, egg and bacon and have some home made soup made with pork ribs to warm up for later and might add the remnants of pasta in a nearly empty jar to use it up.

A meat delivery is due tomorrow which will be separated into smaller freezer bags and then frozen. I got a couple of small hampers free as a special offer so have offered to bring some of it along to dd when I visit on Friday and then she can do some batch cooking with it. I am hoping to do as much shopping online as I can and get the freezer and cupboards stocked so I don't have to dash out in the cold or battle crowds of people.

    Good evening everyone,

Glad your tummy is better Novice:)

My stove is installed and I'm delighted with it:D:D. I won't be able to use it for a couple of days to allow the plaster on the chimney breast to dry but it should be up an running just in time for the next cold spell:cool:.
I'm very impressed with the company that did and while there is a bit of muck & dust to deal with tomorrow they were neat & tidy considering it was such a dirty job. I'm shattered tonight and only just thawing out as the front door was open for most of the day. CH is on full tilt to get the place properly warmed up. I don't think the rain/sleet/hail stopped all day though it's dried up a bit now.
Despite not doing much I'm shattered so it will be an early night for me.
With it being such a horrible day I bunged a big pot of lentil, HM ham stock & veg soup in the pressure cooker as I thought the guys might appreciate some with their pack up - they did and it made an easy but warming lunch for me too! They had an apprentice with them who said it smelled just like the soup his Gran made and scarily I suspect I could just at a push;) be old enough to be his Gran:eek:. I'm taking it as a compliment though as he had two mugs:cool:. Farway - I sometimes find the stock from one carcass isn't strong enough for a pot of soup especially if I've got almost all of the meat off of it. I usually use two carcasses worth or one + a stock pot/cube. Is this perhaps what is missing? Could be worth adding a cube or a couple of teaspoons of chicken gravy granules.

I'm still pretty wonky on my feet so oven bung it in tonight of fishcake and oven chips. I'll nuke the remaining broccoli with some peas & sweetcorn to have with it.

:D::D: now why didn't I think of that :rotfl: I also add a stock pot if I'm only using one chicken carcass or sometimes a bit more seasoning works :)

Caronc glad your new 'toy' has arrived safely, you must be itching to play with it :) the lads will be back tomorrow for more lunch :p

It sounds like you are definitely recovering Wednesday a return of appetite is a good sign :) you can keep the trampoline, I tried it once and there is a very embarrassing video somewhere of me on it  I threatened violence at the time should it ever appear anywhere online :rotfl:

Wet miserable day today so lunchtime walk didn't happen again :(

Lunch was LO sausage and butter bean casserole from the freezer with LO veg from last night. Dinner was a small tomato and cheese pizza with added veg and salami. I managed to find time to pop into my sister's tonight and acquire a chocolate cup cake, my nephew was sending me pictures when he was making them last night so it was a b*gger the diet moment :rotfl: i told him off for tormenting me :rotfl:

  • It's been a wet, dull & miserable day weatherwise. Can't make my mind up if it's cold or not. I wore my winter coat to work & it was much needed on the chilly walk there (with umbrella), but I was hugely overheating to the point of feeling faint, on the way home.
Them immediately felt a chill once I got in as id been sweating, but the house isn't that warm (turned heating right down as I'm out til 9pm).

Even though I've the winter duvet on & a blanket over the bottom half of the bed, I've actually felt the chill a bit in bed these past few nights. So I'm back to wearing PJ's to bed.

I have recently turned the CH temp down to 70c to make the boiler more efficient, & that hasn't bothered me most evenings - I've been warm enough with my jumper on & a blanket on the couch. Thermostat still set the same anyway.
I must just have a "chill".

Food today - had a ham salad sandwich for pack up. Then a couple of chocolate bars as my work was giving everyone selection boxes for Xmas. Perils of working in an office.....
  • caronc, enjoy your new toy! I'm envious. I have a gas fire that's broken atm. Might look into getting that fixed, but a fire is so nice & comforting.

I'm quite annoyed at myself for having that corned beef/mash/beans meal.... I had TWO "actual/proper meals" today, what a waste. I'd "forgotten" I'd already had the meatballs/spaghetti earlier.

Should've just had beans on toast as the second meal.....

Oh well... stray item and mash bag gone from freezer at least.

A few years ago I almost sparked a riot. DH had gone to the pub for a drink and raved about how I was cooking him a pea and ham soup. Seemingly lots of the other guys there went on about how their Mum or Gran used to make that and they had not had that for years and then went home and asked their wives how come they did not cook that. I got dirty looks for days!!!!!!!

I was chatting to older dd and sil the other day who piped up how he remembered when they drove up to visit I had home made bread or rolls and soup for them. I did not feel it was appropriate to point out it was very economical and just said it meant nothing would spoil if they were delayed.

It is almost scary how some of the cheaper things to cook like pizza. bread , quiche, soup or a pie seem to really impress.
