Good evening everyone,
I once made a frittata with cooked white cabbage and roasted carrots & parsnips LO from a Sunday dinner and it wasn't a good combination(should have stuck to bubble & squeak with a fried egg) so I can see why some LO veg might not work in a quiche:eek:. Most restaurants etc. do (and should IMHO) use up LOs but they do need to get the flavour/texture/combinations right. My son first cheffed in a pretty decent Italian restaurant and his first job of the day was to go through the fridges and let the head chef know what was needing used/was LO. These usually formed that day's "specials" and "soup of the day" on the set lunch/early bird menu.
I've damp dusted for Scotland this afternoon and like painting the Forth Road Bridge I'll be doing it again tomorrow and no doubt the day after (and repeat). The guys were as tidy as can be with that sort of job so it could have been much worse but it's inevitable when you have brickwork removed and plastering done so I expected it. Next door's cat has been in and inspected it and was looking seriously underimpressed, suspect he might feel differently when the stove is lit. After giving it a thorough sniff he stalked off and curled up in his favourite chair in the conservatory.
It is so much milder today in the lull before the next storm, heating only went on low about an hour ago and the place feels pleasantly warm, I hope on these kind of evenings the stove will be enough in an evening and the CH can stay off- time will tell:)
I have definitely used all my bending/standing allowance for today so dinner will be another easy one. I've bratwurst sausages in the fridge which I think will be getting cooked with various veg, diced spuds and gravy. Nice easy, one pot job:).0 -
I daren't have a tree this year, cos of crazy Zeusy pup. He'd destroy it :rotfl: Am just having my crib , n lights up, well away from him
I'm debating whether to put up a tree or whether the cat will dismantle it, this is the first Christmas I've had him so I don't know what he will be like, he's nearly six so in theory he should have outgrown kittenish behaviour, but seeing as I removed my charger cable from his mouth earlier I'm not fooled by his current Mr sweet and innocent act :rotfl: I may put up an undecorated tree and see how he reacts  :xmastree:
Money I also vote for the champagne at Xmas:beer:
I got assertive with Dell today after 4 visits from our IT Engineer and 2 from a Dell Engineer in 3 months for my new work laptop and said enough is enough Dell have replaced the same parts twice and the problems still exists so I said no more I've wasted far too much time including 2 hours on a call today . So they have finally agreed to replace it :j :j I'm not holding my breath it will be before Christmas but :T
Lunch was lamb and aubergine curry from the freezer I forgot how nice it wasand dinner was a little cba as I'm tired so a chicken Kiev from the freezer and some LO green veg. The chicken was cooked in the airfryer so no effort involved
the stir fry will keep until tomorrow. I was in the supermarket today debating whether to buy a pack of pak choi when the women next to me started complaining that nothing was made for one all packs were too big  and it was difficult to make a stir fry for one. I suggested if we met at the till I would pay for half a pack :rotfl:

Evening, all.
Sounds like everyone has had busy days. Work was pretty normal & bland for me. As it's Xmas, there's loads of chocolate & biscuits flying round the office.... Not helping with my diet.
I failed miserably to eat any brunch so I was peckish all day until I at my lunch/tea at 4pm. At least tomorrow I'm on a normal shift so will have normal lunch & tea times.
I think my XCFO will a selection of party food, it feels more fun than slaving away at the cooker for a roast dinner.
I am tempted to get a brisket this weekend for the slow cooker & having beef sandwiches for work next week. I'll need a hard of horseradish....0 -

But then you have to make so many choices and decisions.... I couldn't make those decisions.... it'd take me months to choose which and how many, from which shop, on which day (or will they sell out) .. and then how much to eat, when0 -

I even hate mince pies, Xmas cake n pud
I think 95% of people do ... some can be eaten, if offered ... but most don't go out of their way to include them in a line-up.
I did, bizarrely, buy some choc/orange mince pies a couple of years back ... and liked them so much (didn't actually taste like mince pies at a guess) that I bought somebody else a box (who doesn't like mince pies, but liked those ... and told their parents about them) ... and I'm already watching out for them again this year.
Not "fabulous", but good enough to be a token nod to "stuff you're expected to buy/eat" and the pastry's dead nice.... in a "manufactured stuff" way
4ldi... box of 6. Also available in 1-2 other flavours.0 -
The trouble with all food is you can only choose one thing.... so which is it... and that one thing can then affect the next item you can choose.
Take "main meat" - just one. That's your lot.
Veg: Roasties, parsnisp .... now the plate's quite full .. brussels (sold in 1Kg bags, so after you've eaten your 8 on the day don't forget there's the rest of the bag to get through) ... and so that goes on...
Quiche? Just one.
Crisps? Just one flavour, you're going to have to eat 18 packs of those to get the best price/deal....
Now you've got food overload already ....
But what about sandwich fillings, bread, bread rolls, bit of cheese, trifle, chocolate/nice biscuits, few chocs, satsumas (or forget those as they come in bags of 6-12) ... and so on ....
Cheesecake? Can't really, having a trifle.... but you want both. Tough.
Nuts? I've no room for nuts!!! Have to write something else off the list to have nuts.
But you wanted crab pate... I know, but I can't have that and all the other, have to choose again, "just one thing".... can't have them all.0
