Didn't see anything that grabbed my attention - I was staggered at how many people were in the food shops, I had to QUEUE just to get into the car park at Sainsbobs and it took me 10 minutes to park at 4ldi/£land.

Didn't buy much while out, just a distilled vinegar, swede (4ldi Super6), 4 tins of beans, pack of spaghetti, four bread rolls, toothpaste and bin bags. Total spend £10.50

In the end, lunch was a simple beans on toast :)

Glass chopping boards, I've got one but never use it, knife blunting is the main reason, was also bit concerned about perhaps minute particles of glass in my food?
I use two plastic ones, little & large, both go in dishwasher as & when required to get rid of lurking germs & onion pong

Money, I did think twice about "fussy", it was my edited second choice, first was "picky":D But that was not what I meant, choosy? discriminating? careful?. I think we know what I mean

Bonus YS jack pot in L's this morning, still on look out for freezer stuff now, and there they were, YS free range chickens, one was BB tomorrow, just 30% off, the other was use by today, 90p, yep, 90p for one whole free range chicken:j:j

Then mini Melton Mowbray pork pies, 20p for pack of 6, plus Ginster's beef slices, 2 in pack, for 20p

Thought i was doing well with that haul, but when I returned my trolley to the rack someone had paid for & left a stalk full of sprouts in the next trolley:j:)

Not a betting man but today would've been the day to buy a lottery ticket

Lunch was thus 3 of the mini pork pies + picallaii

Dinner will have to be the fresh pork chop I bought yesterday, with some steamed free sprouts, fresh cauli, cabbage & carrots, and trial run on the frozen mash, nice to have a taste report Caron

I'm going to cook the 90p chicken today as it's the use by date & it'll do nicely for the weekend meals

I'll freeze the other chicken + Ginster's slices

I've even started spreadsheet for my new freezer, not sure how long that idea will continue, I'm a Devil for starting & then CBA

Time to prep veg, cuppa & GQT on the radio

I think I might have read re tiny particles of glass also going into the food - I know I was concerned about that too. That's actually one of the reasons I won't use plastic ones either (though I avoid plastic as much as I feasibly can anyway) - ie particles of plastic. My suspicion is that one is going to get particles of whatever-it-is and, if it's going to be anything, I'd rather it was something natural like wood iyswim.

I don't have a dishwasher - hence the concern re things being capable of being propped on a dish drainer. Wouldn't have room for one if I wanted one anyway - as my kitchen has been designed by me to make it a priority to have as much cupboard space as possible.

"Discriminating" - oh definitely discriminating Farway:D:rotfl:
  • I had the beans on toast before I left as I realised I was very hungry.

I'm not having the pasta bake now as I had forgotten that I took out some tortilla wraps to defrost yesterday. I'm having them with black beans, peppers and onion and salsa.:) I wish I had bought some avocado but I forgot!

    My world :)

  • I did enjoy 'The King and I' last night. Although, Ken Watanabe, who played the king, really can't sing. He did a good job with the acting bits though. I knew his name, and his face, but not much else about him. Did a bit of googling when I got home, to see what else he'd been in... Turns out he's good at having extra-marital affairs, which immediately makes me think less of someone...

I had THE most annoying couple sat next to me though...
1: They were late. The performance had already started when they rocked up.
2: The man nearly knocked my drink over, while he faffed around. Luckily, I'd anticipated that, and had a hold on it while he got settled.
3: The woman of the pair had a horrible-sounding chesty cough, and did a "bark, bark" every 5 minutes.
4: The man sniffed constantly. And when he wasn't sniffing, he was heavy-breathing.

They certainly didn't enhance my experience, but unfortunately you can't know who you're going to be stuck next to. I still enjoyed the show, but no thanks to them!

Hope you don't catch something FZ from the couple in the next seats, coughing & sniffing.
No surprise to find that I've never heard of Ken Whatsname, but I'll not look him up now you've told me a snippet about him

My FR pork chop from the butcher's was excellent, I'll try another one from there & hope it is same tasty standard.
I had him trim the fat / rind off & cooked that separately in the same oven as the chicken. It turned into lovely crackling:)

As I was dishing up the veggies & suddenly remembered the frozen mash, too late:( Did without because there was plenty of veg anyway, very virtuous

Chicken's out cooling on top. Not sure on how I'll have it tomorrow, with veg or salad? Whatever I decide I'll try & remember the frozen mash next time:o

Iceland is tempting me, a fiver off for new on line customers, empty new freezer beckons with siren calls, maybe a job for the weekend?

    Good evening everyone,

Glass chopping boards are IMHO an abomination, horrible noise and they don't just blunt your knives they ruin the blade.:mad: I got given two many years ago and I use them as work top protectors as they are quite nice ones. One sits under the kettle and one I pop under the slow cooker when I'm using it. I'm not keen on plastic boards though I have one I use for poultry & fish prep. I much prefer wooden ones and do from time to time pop them through the dishwasher. If you don't do it too often they seem fine and apart from the mahogany one mine are either cheapies from IKEA or made from off cuts from my work tops so no great loss if I do need to replace them.

Shame about the annoying couple flubberyzing:(, I hope they've kept their germs to themselves.
Farway - sounds like a score on the pork chop source and a real bargain on FR chicken.:) I have a spreadsheet for my freezers which I print off and stick on the freezer. I update it manually when something goes in or out and just update the computer one every so often. It works well for me and I know I would cba if I was constantly having to go and up date the computer one. Iceland deal sounds as though it's worth trying and if you cba Waitrose have the reputation of offering decent discount of first time offers if you sign up for them and then don't use them. They don't deliver here or I'd get the odd offer, ditto Sainsbury & Asda. I'm registered with both and a couple of times a year I'll get a "we're missing you" type email with a decent amount off a shop of x value offered.

Blowing a hooley, turned into blowing a hooley + tipping it down + blimming baltic this afternoon so I wasn't over the door step. Groceries have been delivered and I got the spinach & ricotta pizza I'd been looking forward to. :) Lunch was the last of the split pea soup from the freezer and the end of a piece of brie on a crispbread. My son arrives at some point tomorrow so after lunch unless he is out and about I'll not be CFO for a few days. I've bought a chook for Sunday (wish mine had been 90p:eek:) and will make a "proper" roast dinner for us.
