.... bankrupts are allowed £35 per person per week for food the last I knew (it may have gone up since). ...

And a single person on the dole gets £72/week for EVERYTHING. From that (if we ignore the fact they might have to top up rent or council tax) they have to pay for gas, electricity, water, telly, Internet, insurances, cleaning stuff, toiletries, loo rolls ..... and food ..... and, on top of that, the costs of job-hunting and attending interviews, maybe the occasional new bit of clothing/shoes or a hair cut. And, for homeowners, the cost of fixing/repairing/servicing household things that go wrong.

Bankrupts are treated better than those whose only "crime" was to lose a job.

Wet & windy, after porridge breakfast into town regardless, food & bits hunting

I went in Iceland, more checking on things I'd seen on line, actual sizes & the like, plus where does the meat come from? None of it for me in the end, and the only YS was water added bacon and fresh battery chickens
In the end it was a bag of chips & bag of frozen mash, giving it a try with my new freezer. Peeling spuds is a bit harder now with my wonky fingers, and packet is fine but hoping with the frozen I can nuke just the right amount. Time will tell

Found a nice YS beef joint in Asda, aged etc and one of their "best" range.
Then one of Prince Charle's YS organic lamb joint in W/rose
Both are now in the freezer and will do nicely over the Christmas period

Container hunt, big empty space with only one glass container left in Wilko. Not to worry. I've got some vouchers due so may have a look at the Amazon ones Money

Cup of tea + huge wedge of HM coffee & walnut cake offer as early lunch out

Bit of detour to butcher on way home, I wanted to see what they have, the pork is free range, bought a nice chop, bit of a fail on the rest, nice looking but provenance unknown, so the freezer top up will not be from there

They do sell loose Field Fare frozen things though, which could be handy CFO, scoop own size of what ever into own container

Dinner tonight is the marinated steak, it looked a good 'un when I prepped it yesterday, with chips, fried eggs & LO beans

Shame about the soup Money, I like HM minestrone but of course not quite as fussy about my ingredients

  • I've had a PB sandwich and a banana. I haven't been eating as much since having a cold and saw I'm down another few pounds. It would be handy if I could keep this reduced appetite afterwards.:rotfl: I've lost 11 pounds now.:A

I might try that SW soup one of these days. I have some pickled onions in the fridge that I keep meaning to eat.

    Good morning everyone
Brambling a butter pie is layers of potato, onion and butter well seasoned with salt & pepper cooked inside flaky pastry. Simple but incredibly tasty. They're from Lancashire. Well worth trying:D.

I've never heard of that before. I hadn't heard of parkin until a few years ago too.:D

Those containers aren't cheap - it's £30 something for the pack of 8 and £20 something for the pack of 4 - but I figured it was worth it.

"Fussy" re my food - well I'll "translate" that into particular about it:cool: I think every time I look round at the state of the NHS in the area I'm in now - I get even more "particular" at that - as NHS shortfalls here scare the heck out of me as to how little/how bad/etc/etc provision is here:eek:

You know you're more than a little cynical/worried about the state of local healthcare when you think "If I had one of my impossible wishes - ie the one where I could instantly be at any location I chose = I'd choose main NHS hospital in home city, Nuffield Hospital in home city, my own doctor there, my own dentist there, my own foot person there, my own osteopath there - before I started in on listing off what shops and social facilities I'd want to be able to instantly transport myself to".

My preventative health care must be working though at least to some extent - as my hairdresser (who I finally found here - several attempts later) tells me my hair is in "very good condition" and various people tell me my skin is very good - so I think I must be feeding myself a healthy diet then:D. Fingers crossed to never need anything from the NHS here - ever (apart from 6 monthly dentist visits).

I'm not saying owt - on the grounds there might be a troll patrolling the thread.

    But you are correct.
